View Full Version : Serena's comments about WTA

It sounds a little bit like sour grapes to me. I think she is a bit pissed off with the wta, because they have dethroned her and chosen their new Queen Maria and Maria has been getting loads of media attention.

I know I would probably be bad rep for this and I will go from green to red :) but I do think it is factor.

What comments??

Serena also is entered in next week's tournament in Toronto. Asked why she would risk possible further injury by playing there, she said, ``I think the WTA would hate if I answered honestly.''

Pressed for an explanation, Williams said she was being deliberately vague, but alluded to Tour-imposed fines for players who don't honor their commitments.

``It's hard because you got these things going on and if you don't play, then things can happen,'' she said. ``It's almost as if people don't care that you're really hurt or not. Everything is about making the dollar. I'm trying to make a dollar. That's what it's all about these days.''

Asked whether it would be worse for the Tour for her to miss several weeks instead of skipping one event, Williams said, ``I would think so, but apparently that's not how the money is made.''

Is Williams being forced to play in Toronto?

``I think I should leave on that note because I don't like to lie,'' she said, smiling.

I don't understand how you can be fined if you are injured......similar to the issues that Justines coach brought up a while back....Its ridiculous.

Your really not too bright are you? The wta didnt dethrone her. Also maria is hardly the new queen being ranked what? Eight? Sorry but if anyone is the "new queen" its justine who sits at number one with two more slams than maria.

Dont be bitter.

If thats the case why don't the wta just enter the fabulous Maria in every tournment there is so they can recover their loses better yet why don't the just name each tournment after Maria being she is the second coming of christ. PLEASE. :cuckoo:

Obviously cybil and sjw care otherwise they would not have to resort to personal insults, I think alot of Williams sisters fans are quite brainless they cannot argue a point.

First off, Serena doesn't even need to be talking, its people like Kim Clijsters and Jelena Dokic that need to be saying something. Serena plays every once in a blue moon. I remember like in 2001 she played 9 tournaments. Yes, you commit to the tournament, you should follow up, unless you have an injury. She does make some valid statements, but it should be coming from somebody who is a tournament workaholic.

all the players feel this way, and it is unfortunate that the wta feels that they have to compensate for their "loss" in this way. serena is just speaking the truth. personally, if i just had an injury flare up, the last thing i would want to do is go to another tournament just to pull out once i get there so i don't worry about losing money.

She has plenty of money, if the injury is severe and I had millions, I wouldn't mind getting fined for withdrawing from a tournament LATE.

It's very unfair to say the least. She's not getting paid because she's not playing in Montreal. If you don't go to work, you don't get paid. Simple as that. It's like if one of us called in sick for work...fair enough, you don't get your pay for the day. They wouldn't dock you another days pay on top of the pay you missed by not coming in, especially with a legitimate reason. Why would it be different for tennis players? It's not like Serena's skipping because she just doesn't feel like going.

I am not sure if it is really a fine or a kind of reduction in possible bonus pool money.

that's true also. isn't it just money that they take from the end of the year pool, anyway??? the pool for which they divide among the players who draw crowds and play a lot of events?

sidenote
jelena dokic is one of the best things the wta has had in a long time. beautiful girl, drama, exciting game, crowds, 30 tournaments a year, and she embraced being able to play a lot...

The point of the thread is why did Serena have to comment about it? When have they ever worried about wta wants them to do. They have always done what they want to do, or maybe because Serena is not the number 1 star of the tour she has to tow the line a bit more.

Wow, how quick did it take for someone to create a Serena is mad with the WTA because of Maria thread? I don't understand why anyone would feel that Serena gives a fuck about Maria.

Maybe, just maybe some folks should stop being delusional and paranoid.

I'm sure I speak for others on the board that, yes there are williams fans who are great, but there is also alot of them that if u make a negative comment about them they resort to personal insults and can't handle Serena or Venus being critisisted in anyway.

I also feel there is posters on this board who are afraid to speak their mind cause there will be bad reps.

nope, you aren't better than her. However, the controversy you are trying to create seems pretty weak considering Serena never mentioned Maria in any of her comments. LOL.

Yes, thats exactly it. Serena is a drama queen of the first order. She is so melodramtic that sometimes I just have to roll my eyes. However, she has been a drama queen for a long long long time its not something recent.

Do we really know what goes on behind closed doors, of the wta??? Whether you play 5 tourneys or 20, if you are one of their biggest attractions, then that spells m-o-n-e-y.There are rules in their contracts that we probably don't know about. They can threaten and intimidate players however they deem necessary.Lindsay,Justine,Jcap,Serena, all have the same issues with the wta.I'm sure many more who have not voiced it!!
