Jut getting back from the Acura Classic, I would like to point out that the following players are absolute sweethearts and should be recognized for their amazing kindness towards their fans

:) Anastasia Myskina (very, very, very polite)
:) Barbara Schett (a pleasure and very entertaining to be around)
:) Maria Sharapova (very mature, and accessable to fans)
:) Petra Mandula (very laid back and always has a smile)
:) Amy Frazier (very friendly to everyone)
:) Martina Navratilova (hardest worker I've ever seen, and very nice)
:) Lisa Raymond (very nice and carries herself so well)
:) Cara Black (absolute sweetheart, very down to Earth)
:) Lindsay Davenport (one of the sweetest people I've ever met)
:) Renee Stubs (devoted towards her fans, very nice to be around)
:) Daniela Hantuchova (2nd time I've met, very intelligent, despite 2 hard losses, gave autographs to all fans)
:) Elena Dementieva (2nd time I've met, both times absolute pleasure to be around)
:) Mary Pierce (down to Earth, nicest and warm hearted girl in the world)

oooooh... please tell me more about myskina... :)

Let's see, things I remember about Myskina...
*I don't think she turned a single fan down for an autograph
*She said "Thank you" & "Please" about a million times to everybody, even to fans who talked to her on change overs right in the middle of her doubles match
*She was very down to Earth, she would sit in the stands and listen to music or read a magazines while watching others play matches.
*She jogged a lot around the tournament.
*Yesterday in doubles w/ Elena instead of water & gatorade like her partner, she asked the umpire (of course she said please & thank you) for a soda. They brought her a six pack a coke; she drank 3 of them during her match. It made her happy at the time, but by the end of the match she became so tired I think she wished she had made the gatorade decision instead.

how about Hantuchova  :p

Things about Hantuchova...
* She is so pretty, she looks so healthy and adorable in person.
*Right before her 1st round match, their was a huge crowd waiting for Harkleroad to give autographs and someone just about knocked Dani down, she just turned and smiled when the person said sorry.
*She is very intelligent and I think she has the rules book memorized word by word. She seemed to jump at every call. Right in the middle of her doubles match against Stubs & Black she even began to explain to Rennae why a call went the way it did. And if she wasn't sure about the way a call went she would ask the umpire if he was absolutly confident in his call and she would explain the rules to him. She began to remind me of Hermione in Harry Potter. She is so confident in her intelligence.
* Her partner hit a serve out and when Rennae Stubs gently returned it, Dani thought the ball was in play & slammed it right at Rennae's head. As soon as Rennae started yelling at her, you could tell in her face that she felt so bad and embarrassed. Her cheeks started turning red. Her partner Bartoli, was great though and told her the ball was in and the lines man made the mistake, even though I think everyone could tell it was out.
*She was so upset with the way some of her matches went. But, as soon as the match was over she would take a deep breath and smile at her fans. She signed autographs for everyone and took pictures. Most players who loose a tough match just want out of the stadium so quickly, and she regrouped from being upset so fast. That takes a lot of character.

Well Shannonannafan did say she was looking very tired by the end of the match; I suspect she was mixing it with a bit vodka.

This is why it is hard for me to understand how people say she has a "shitty mouth"

and also about nastya, she is said to be pretty cold to some of her fans. I guess this proves it wrong.

Things about LenaD!!!
*The first time I met her, was @ the 2002 Acura Classic right after she won her doubles title. As soon as she got of the court, she put the winners check in her trophy and put the trophy on the sidewalk. She then walked away to sign autographs and left the trophy alone. She talked very casually with fans and seemed very nice to be around. This little 8-year-old boy started asking her a million questions about how she began tennis, and I think she fell in love with him. She seems to like kids.
*This year again she was very lovable and had a good sense of humor. She had a smile on her face the whole time, except when she messed up on her serve. She gave her coach the meanest stare down. If looks could kill!!! Other than that she was a crack up. When she or Myskina would make a mistake in doubles she would crack a joke and try to get Myskina to smile. She had this way of getting everyone in the audience to smile. I truly think she has a great sense of humor.
*She was very upset at her practice right before her 2nd round singles match. She is just having such a hard time with her serve right now. I felt so bad for her. Right after practice she gave people autographs, and when someone yelled good luck, She turned around and smiled with a huge sigh and said thank you.

You know, I watched Amelie's match and I'm sorry to say at that particular moment, she was not the nicest player. She walked past 50 kids and refused to give any autographs. She was on her cell phone smiling, in seemed pretty nice.

though I understand why she would leave after having lost.. she has the number 1 spot in sight, and the loss was harsh.
When I met her she was just hilarious and fun. Very sweet also. I was with friends and talking in my cell phone, and we bumped into her during a practice tournament ( couldn't remember which it was, but it was in France). We started talking with her, she was just really sweet. She signed like fifteen autographs ( LOL we were swarming her) and posed for photos and such. Then she asked me about my cell ( an US one) and she showed us hers. She went on and on about it , it was just cute, she is obsessed with electronics. Then some guy came, and she left. She did wave us bye, awwwwww I love her. She is just so sweet.

I really wish to know about the sweet heart of Maria Sharapova... I know you must have had a great experience with her....

Maria was very sweet. I must say though I felt bad for her.
At the end of her practice she had 50 people standing at the court watching her. Some of them shouted some rude things, like "Hurry up and finish your stupid practice, so I can get your autograph." Maria had every right to go out of the other side of the gate and completly ignore everyone. Instead, she walked to the gate and began signing. Someone asked her for a picture and she replied " Sure, go ahead, everyone else is. " She stayed until every single person walked away with a big smile. I watched her do this 3 times in two days. I don't think she turned one person down. She is a very hardworker. You can tell she takes practice very seriously. One thing I noticed was that she didn't smile very much. She looked somewhat sad and distant. She doesn't like a lot of attention and the media is jumping all over her. She is going through a rough time now with newly found fame, but she is handeling it with a great amount of maturity and I think she will continue to have a very successful career.

anything about lindsay? I love her.

Lindsay was very nice. She tends to practice for a pretty long time. I think I watched her for 2 1/2 hrs. She actually showed up 20 min before her coach and just sat alone int the court except for a tournement official. When her coach showed she pointed to her watch and started to laugh. Every 15 min she likes to take little breaks and sit down. Everyone kept thinking she was finished and ran to get ready for autographs just to watch Lindsay get up and start practicing again. I did notice that she chews her finger nails a lot. When she was finally finished she took of her shoes, put on a pair of sandles, pulled her own pen out of her pocket and signed autographs for everybody. Someone said they had flown from Detriot, Michigan just to see her play and she gave the biggest smile in the world. She said "Wow," and "Thank you so much." She seems to love kids, as she was exceptionally nice to them.

From day one all I've ever heard about Mary was that she was the nicest girl in the world, after meeting her, I have to agree. She may be the sweetest girl I've ever met. She seemed very close to Amelie Mauresmo. It was only the 2nd time they had played doubles together. Everytime one made a mistake, the other would say "You can do it!" After her doubles loss she signed about 10 autographs before 30 people rushed her wanting more signatures. A tournement official grabbed her and put her on a golf cart to take her back to the players lounge. After her singles loss, she stayed despite a tough match and signed autographs for everybody. She stayed longer than the winner. Someone said thank you for an autograph and she replied "Awe, well you are very welcome." She was just so nice to everyone. She said please and thank you to everyone.

I can vouch for Maria's devotion to her fans.
I was fortunate to watch her play in Birmingham, just prior to Wimbledon. After winning her Q-Final match, Maria did an autograph session, during which a young lady was attempting to get her photo taken with Maria, but the photographer was having problems with the camera. After about the 3rd attempt the fan was on the point of giving up, but Maria insisted she keep trying ("I'm determined you will get your picture"). She gained many more admirers amongst those who witnessed this kind act.
Maria is a very sweet lady & I was also lucky enough to get both her autograph and a photo with her!
I apologise if any readers have read my posting before on Maria's forum, but it seemed very relevant to the theme on this thread.
 You saw alot of matches in a short period and met alot of players. Momo and Pierce where speaking in English with each other.
I definently heard Amelie speak in French, and I only understand a little. I'm not good enough to speak easily.I was with Mary on two sepperate matches and she spoke both English and French. She spoke mostly French with Amelie. I did hear a couple of things during the doubles match in English though.

Thanks a lot for the great insight on the players:) Did you happen to notice anything about Amy Frazier...she seems very down to earth. Also, did you see Alison Bradshaw around the grounds at all or get to see any of her doubles match? Thanks:)

I watched Amy a couple of times. She was really good to fans. Someone said they first saw her play 12 years ago and Amy was absolutly amazed that someone remembered her. I don't think she turned anyone down for autographs. She just seemed pretty down to earth. I'm sorry, but I didn't see Alison. She may have been there though.

You know, the crowd really didn't say anything that stood out. I think there was some confusion with the point. When Daniela hit the ball, I think people assumed that the ball was in play and then all of a sudden Rennae started yelling and it wasn't until Bartoli took her 2nd serve that people realized what had happened.

That's hysterical - I'm the person who flew in from Michigan. I've never posted on this forum before, but just had to! Lindsay's coach, Adam Peterson was great as well - he gave me a tennis ball she had practced with to go with my Pete Sampras practice ball.

I'd back your assessment of the players - most were very kind to their fans, especially the kids. In fact, being older, I felt quite out of place.

The coke-thing really cracked me up, I know there´s a lot of sugar in it and probably coffein, but still it´s not really the ultimate drink for professional sports. Next time she will "order" a cup of coffee on court...she really seems not to worry about diet at all. She includes McDonalds as her favourite food and she often goes to those places during tourneys (last year at the US Open she went there after a match at like 12pm).

She´s definetly weird, but that makes her really natural and nice to me ;)

Once I´ve chased Nastya down for an autograph at a tourney right before a match and she got her whole "crew" around her to stop, so she could sign my stuff, she was already signing things before for a long time and I was afraid she wouldn´t give any more, but she did and of course, she gave me a nod afterwards with a slight smile. She even put back the cover of my pen, which I had in my hand.

Someone mentioned Mauresmo would be unfair to her fans, well...at least when I saw her, she was giving everyone an autograph though it was raining. I really appreciated this.

Marion played really well this week, and I thought her and Daniela played great with each other. I think she is a very intelligent girl. She seemed to have the whole rules book memorized just like Daniela maybe that's why they are such a great team. She just wasn't as vocal about. I do remember her arguing a few points in her doubles match. She hit a serve and it was called out late, right after her opponent Rennae Stubs made a face. She told the umpire "That's not fair, you can't call it out b/c she made a mean face." Both her and Daniela supported each other really well. If one thought something was wrong with the point, the other stood right along side them and questiond it. Marion gave lots of autographs despite her loss. She also did so well against Ai Sugiyama. She really is in great shape, Ai had her running all over the place. Other than that, I guess very pretty is what I remember about Bartoli.
