View Full Version : E.Dementieva(5) Dismisses A.Frazier; 6-2, 6-1

Great match for Elena, against a very capable and difficult to manage Amy Frazier, who has also been playing great tennis. The score may not be very representative of the match, seeing as MANY games went to duece. Frazier had a last look, down 1-4, but up 0-30 on Dementieva's serve, but Elena stormed back, and won the next 8 points of the match (including breaking Frazier at love) to win the match; 6-2, 6-1. She goes on to face either Lindsay Davenport or Ai Sugiyama (Davenport likely) in the semifinals for a shot at her first tier I title. This is Dementieva's second straight semifinal, after a heartbreaking 1st loss at Wimbledon to Sandra Kleinova. Dementieva has been to two Tier I finals (Moscow; 2001, Miami; 2004) but has never won a Tier I title. The head to head for Dementieva/Frazier now sits at 3-1 in favor of Dementieva, with Elena taking the last three meetings.

Great win Elena!! :D

I think Lindsay is great, but Elena is my fave. Lindsay (if she wins) has said she is starting to feel tired mentally and physically. Ai will provide a workout. Lindsay also sais, she is not too bothered with what happens THIS week. This gives an insight into underlying motivation, whereas for Elena, all these weeks are precious in the build-up to the Olympics.

If she is a little off form and Elena smells victory, Lindsay could be in for a tough time.

Good luck Elena!! :)

Should be a good semi IF Linds overcomes Ai ;)

I heard that the over/under for combined double-faults in this match was set at 30..... :tape:

Now see, THIS is a good win. 1 and 1 over Brandi isn't impressive, but this was good.

Elena is getting in Form again :) now only hope she can give davenport a tough match, winning would absolutely be incredible,
just hope that she doesn't double fault an entire game away like against Likhovtseva, then everything will be good ;)
