Good win for Serena, but I wish she would convert more of the break points she is given and not play passive. She faces Vera next and the way she plalyed last week isn't going to work tomorrow so she will have to play better.

One of the many reasons I don't worry like so many other Serena fans is because whatever's wrong with Serena the thing about her is she "usually" competes the champion she is and it's usually well enough to offset most problems with her game. Serena's had some pretty lop-sided losses in the finals lately but aside from those hickups she's been competing extreemly well...well enough to make three straight finals anyway.

Last time she played Vera, Vera played the match of her life and Serena was below what some of us have come to expect from her, but let's not forget SERENA DID WIN.... and the fact is Serena has won more often than not...

Should be fun tomorrow!

CONGRATS TO SERENA FOR MAKING HER 5th STRAIGHT QF... one win away from her 4th straight SF....

Congrats, Rena! Keep up the spirit. John Kerry (the US Democratic Nominee) just said: "help is on the way". :)

A la prochaine, Bovina!

Trailing 3-2 in the first set, Bovina had triple break point against Williams, but Williams came up with two winners and Bovina sent a forehand long on a second serve as Williams held. Bovina double-faulted to drop her serve and trail 5-2.

Bovina won the next two games to get to 5-4, but Williams closed out the set with a 110-mph serve that the Russian barely got her racket on. In the second set, Bovina fought off triple break point to hold for a 2-1 lead, but Williams ran off the final five games, including two service breaks, and won on her third match point when Bovina's backhand went wide.

"It boiled down to who could hold serve, but my serve carried me throughout the match," Williams said. "This is the best I've played in the last few weeks. Baby steps, but I'll get there." - Sportsline.comwire (report)

The rankings are actually a great indicator of the kind of year Serena is having. She's about to re-enter the top ten with less than 9 events played this year (less than anyone else in the top 20), not to mention she only has two slams factored into her ranking- What an awesome feat!!

There are rumors going around that Serena is way too passive and playing unpredictable tennis right now....don't believe the hype, Serena has been the model of consistency all year long and has posted quality results every step of the way....

BEST OF LUCK AGAINST VERA!!!!

We´re just too spoiled with Serena that we take her for granted. 9 tournaments, only 2 slams and having lost TITLIST points at the other and she is already in the top 10....man, we´re spoiled for sure.

she' a very good player who would have prolly made top 10 by now if it hadn'ta been for that damn illness. she had a mono...she's the tallest girl on tour (that i know of) and very lanky right now...hits the ball super hard, good volleyer, great serve, was one of the original "upcoming russians" but i guess the others have overtaken her now.
