Marion Bartoli:

In my eyes it is a sign of self confidence that she doesn't shave her armpits. More women should follow that trend. What do you think?

No, I live in France, French woman shave, I thought it was German women who didn't. Anyway it was Julia Roberts who started this trend.

The non-shaving of female armpits or legs is just nasty. Nasty. You may go on and on about it being natural or what not but it's still nasty *shudder*.

I think I've made my opinion felt.

if you fill the ****** with ****************, you will have success.

Build your opinion, it is not nasty at all.

Nice double-standard! Armpit and leg hair is as natural for women as it is for men. Men, and most women have just been socialized to believe that it's unattractive on women. Why is armpit/leg/chest hair acceptable for men? I'll admit, I personally find women who shave "aesthetically" more appealing; but it's their choice, not mine. Men are also more "aesthetically" attractive if they shave those areas as well. This double-standard is revolting, not the hair itself.

Well, she was the first woman to have her armpit hair splashed all over the newspapers and magazines. Don't think that will happen to Marion.

No offence, but I honestly thought the stereotype was that it was the French girls who don't shave their armpits.

Personally,I think both sexes should shave their pits.Hairy pits on either are poor personal hygene, and very unattractive.IMO.

No offence taken, that is what I thought before I moved here, but the women here are very beauty conscious and when I go to the beach I do not see alot of hairy armpits. Actually in France the men also like to give themselves a trim. Actually, What am I talking about, this is not a forum about french body hair but about tennis. But fun just the same.

Then I guess the stereotype of the French being 'fashion-conscious' holds out more than the 'hairy armpits' one ;)

The french say it is the germans who have hairy armpits. Fashion conscious I am not sure about the one, I would actually say the British are more fashion conscious than the French but the the French are more chic and do love quality.

I think that it's fine for some things to be of a masculine/feminine nature. You're right - I don't find it revolting that men don't shave their armpits so perhaps it's a double standard *gasp*. Then again, I think it's strange when men shave their chest or shave their legs but I don't think it's strange for women to shave their legs or pits *gasp* yet another double standard.

I guess I just don't mind there being some "inequalities"..I like men to open the door for me, I like men to take out the trash, I like to prepare dinner, I like men to be men and I like my legs to be smooth and sexy and silky and leave the hairyness to the manly men ;)

*running from the iron clad feminists that may attack*

Whatever floats her boat.

I know that I personally have been societally conditioned to not finding it attractive, but it is natural. If she wants armpit hair, more power to her.

Hell, she can braid the suckers for all I care.

Maybe some beads... ;)

lol! Nicely put. I do agree. Just because I find it nasty doesn't mean I think she should shave. It's her pit hair and she can do what she likes with it. I do quite like the bead idea as well..maybe a nice french twist updo would be a fresh change..;)

I think all women should do with their hair whatever they are comfortable with. If they like to shave then they should, but they shouldnt feel forced to just because society expects it of them. Society has always historically had standards which reflect a desire to control women's bodies and its good to see someone thumbing their nose at that once in a while.

As far as I remember Steffi Graf did not shave, too. But she didn't like sleeveless shirts. Kveta Hrdlickova (Peschke) didn't shave, too. Do you know other women that preferred not to support Gillette or Wilkinson?
