Conchita is only boring against players with a similar moonballing style to her, look at all her Dokic matches, I'd pay good money to watch that matchup live.

On the mens side I have to say Federer...he´s a tennis god.

Try watching the points rather than the fistpumps.

Maria is an inspired player, is a dogged fighter, and has a huge range of shots, which she can produce from all parts of the court. I've seen her get standing ovations after some of her matches from crowds.

I disagree, I find her style of play rather tedious. She just wallops the ball as hard as she can and aims for the lines, leaving little margin for error. so if she is having an off day, it looks very ugly. In case someone comes back with saying "Venus plays like that too", she doesn't, Vee plays with an incredible amount of variety............and she looks better too :) :p

Jen's game is pretty ugly and boringSurely you jest. Whatever Maria can do Jen can do better. Every player has a good day and an off day. When jen is on she is an incredible fighter, moves extremely well, forehand is jaw dropping.
But for me venus is most exciting to watch, serena and jen against each other or others is great, justine against power players, I love the way she matches up power for power and how she can do whole lot more. Kim is fun when she is playing a good player otherwise she steam rolls lesser opponents. Of all top players she is the one least likely to be upset.
vera is exhausting, cheering her can be very trying.

OK, I take back the cheap dig at Chanda (esp. because I likeChanda) but 1 match out of how many I listed above does not make a player boring to watch. 99% of the time the crowd gets their $ worth when Jen plays. Even the posters here who hate Jen say she is one of the most exciting to watch.......... ..that speaks volumes!!!

Laugh all you want. There is a huge difference between "bang bang" and "winner winner." Nobody strikes the ball like Lindsay. And Lindsay doesn't falsely pump herself up on court because she knows it's useless. And it's not like she is the only player who gets down on herself, did you see the French Open quarterfinal Suarez/Sharapova - talk about ugliness.

Jen would give her left arm to serve like Maria serves - and even more to get a fraction of like Maria's intensity.

Martina Hings
-for her breath taking shots after shots
Ai Sugiyama
-every points she plays seems to be the championship point, she always gives it all.
Tatiana Golovin
-always interesting to see what she has to wear
Anna Kournikova
-she has always had some kind of aura around her, and people are always cheering for her
Venus Williams
-the healthy Venus is one that I find the most exciting, she has lost a lot of drive now though.

I think everyone is going to differ on what excites them, so there is no right/wrong answer because it is based on the individual watching.

I think Amélie is exciting to watch but also excruciating painful at times too. I also enjoy watching Karolina, Maria, Justine, Kim, Venus and all for different reasons.

Whether someone is exciting to watch is in the eye of the beholder I guess, i doubt you would watch your favourites if there was someone more exciting to watch.

Therefore the most exciting to watch are...

Saori Obata her serve isn't dominating, so you get a pretty intense, error-free rally on most points and she is a genius with a racket.
Karen Paterson Challenger, big serve, big groundstrokes, big temper
Elena Baltacha goes for EVERY shot - "like a bull in a china shop" said Sam Smith, so can be spectacular or boring in equal measure.

Exciting players:
Serena: There was a time that NO Serena match was boring...she´s a bit in a funk right now, but make a list of great rivalries of recent years and great matches and Serena´s bound to come up plenty often in them.
Amelie/Justine: although I don´t like Justine´s personality, it must be said that she can do some pretty sick things with the ball...and a healthy and confident Momo is a sight to behold.

I say Sharapova is the best to watch. Sprem is also an exciting player.

If the question is indeed about active players (which rules out Hingis), my answer is without any doubt or hesitation Justine Henin-Hardenne. Watching her on a court is something unique in MHO. To me the girl is a genius, plain and simple. Had she been taller and stronger I really think she could have reigned unchallenged for years. Now, if we're talking about uninjured or fit players playing right now, I couldn't name one girl in particular even though 5 or 6 of them stand out on top, there again in my humble opinion. Since I'm already a senior poster I guess there's no need to tell you who they are. You know who I like best by now :wavey:

I have to say I always get a thrill from watching both Williams sisters in action. Whether they're in a close match, or absolutely demolishing their opponent; I'm always riveted by their sheer smarts, power and athleticism on court.

Justine has a very wonderful game to watch : her backhand is pure beauty, she has all shots (wonderful volleys, drop shots etc ...) and she moves well -> which makes the game more interesting to watch !! (i mean Davenport for example has a very good game, but it's sometimes boring to see that she's a bit sloppy) : only thing that may make Justine's game less exciting is when she can't pass any 1st serves !!

Serena is :hearts: : i love to see her giving no chance to her opponents! But, please, don't come to the volley or make drop shots !
Venus too is exciting to watch , especially her backhand down the line (inside-out ??).

Kim is pleasant too : great overall game and i love to see her make her splits !

Martina was :hearts:

Dementieva too because she's very aggressive, and I like seeing that.

On the other side, I find these players players a bit boring :
- Davenport : as I said it, she doesn't move well, and it makes the game a bit boring ! When her opponent doesn't make her move a lot, she's very great to watch, but, when it ain't the case, it's boring.
- Sharapova : I like watching her, but she doesn't have a good technique : sometimes I wonder how her shots are still in : sometimes she hits the ball in such a weird way, yet it ain't out !!! (I don't call that talent, unlike some of you). And it's always : "everything or nothing", and it's often nothing, and on these days, she's really boring to watch (for eg. her match against Suarez at RG)
- Mauresmo : too many moon balls ! and I don't like her backhand, especially her backhand down the line.

Because I go to qualies and first rounds of tournaments, I haven't seen most of the big names play. The most exciting player I've seen in the past 2 weeks (JPMorgan & Acura) is without a doubt Eugenia Linetskaya. She puts it all out there - 100% effort. It's inspiring to watch her. I also find Patty Schnyder inspiring because she moves so beautifully.

My personnal choice is Arantxa... :bounce: Arantxa was running every ball, putting all of them back in the court, giving us an incredible show in every thight match. With her loud "Vamos" and the fire in her eyes, every point was intense. But Arantxa wasn't only a counterpuncher. She was often coming to the net, playing some big shots too. My lovely Arantxa!!!

You clearly didn't watch the match then. They are both class acts, esp Maria is just SO excting to watch as you would be able to tell from the crowds reactions and cheering. There was A LOT more cheering in the sharapova match than in the mauresmo/williams match.

Davenport didn't move at all the whole game. She was just staring at the ball if it was a little out of reach...
Sharapova coming back in the game was great to watch, but the game Davenport had that time was boring. If she wasn't a threat to Momo, I would have been happier that Davenport got out of the slump.
Serena vs Momo at Wimby? One of BEST game EVER IMO with the Graf vs Hingis FO in 1999.

You clearly didn't watch the match then. They are both class acts, esp Maria is just SO excting to watch as you would be able to tell from the crowds reactions and cheering. There was A LOT more cheering in the sharapova match than in the mauresmo/williams match.

oh and also, a coming from behind game is more "cheerable" than a tight close game since you rooting for the Underdog.

peace out

i'm sure most of you haven't seen it because it happens so rarely but patty at her best is simply breathtaking to watch. the control she possesses over the ball and some of the running forehands she hits are incomparable to any other player.

I used to be much more enthralled with the men's side, but watching Justine Henin play is what drew me to the WTA.

Her slight frame moving so gracefully over the court, her concentration on every point, her undieing poker face, her 'allez' punctuating the perfect end to a perfectly setup cross-court topspin flyaway backhand passing shot!!

Her footwork is amazing to watch... i think the best "example" of her footwork is when the camera is on her side of the court. Some points you will see her run clear off your screen to chase after a supposed "winner". out of nowhere she rips an amazing shot clear across the court catching her opponent off guard.. simply amazing!

ok, that ends my hero worship...
