I've just started noticing players who put makeup on before they go on court to play. The two most notable are Capriati and Serena.

I don't know, it just seems weird to see professional athletes out there with makeup on.

Opinions?

Fabiola Zuluaga tends to do it too. It drips while she's playing and it's annoying

they are women, girls... they tend to do that, right? what's wrong with that?

Pratt does.

Pratt does.
 No offense, it ain't helping her too much.

Judging from her match against Serena, it looks like Vera Zvonereva uses mascara or some kind of eyeliner when she plays. That or she just has really pretty eyes naturally.

Vera does have gorgeous eyes. I too have noticed Serena's makeup, I don't see anything wrong with it, I debate with it myself when I play but l sweat way to much to have anything other than powder on.

I remember Venus wore make up during the 2001 Us Open final, but that was a special occasion so I guess that's why she did it

Anna K. looked like a porcelain doll every time she stepped on court...:tape: :tape: :tape: I think these girls should be more concerned with lathering up on sunscreen than with looking pretty and primped.

and what I think is that you/we should stop saying what they should/not do... most of them are capable making their own decisions. as long as it's not disrespectful towards anyone, just leave them alone.

Mexico's Erika Clarke uses make up also when she plays, I've seen it live and she looks lovely :hearts:

I don't think is bad, image is important too.

anna was always on/off with the make-up. sometimes she'd wear a lot, sometimes a lil [like just mascara]. and sometimes shed wear the geisha look with the zinc.

i guess i can see players wearing mascara, but foundation or lipstick? ick.

i dont wear any make-up playing sports, but no one is really watching me...

shit, i barely wear make-up going out to the club/bar

I certainly hope the players do use sunscreen --- and quite a lot of it --- , because outdoor tennis minus sunscreen = :cuckoo:

Yeah, I really like Zvona's eyes (eyeliner or not). It looks really diva-ish :D I think Wartusch is a heavy eyeline wearer too; although hers looks very gothic :tape::lick::tape:

so what if they wear makeup?? how is it offensive or inappropriate to you??? why can't they try to play tennis AND look beautiful at the same time??

who says you "shouldn't" wear makeup when you play sports??? men? if women ruled the world you probably wouldn't have that sexist view.

a few years ago players probably were criticized for wearing any color aside from white. now it's the makeup. gimme a break, it's 2004, not 1904.

i'm a tight ass?? look how many posters think they SHOULDN'T wear makeup. and you're calling ME a tight ass?

i wasn't criticizing the thread, i was criticizing those who are against makeup. i did EXACTLY what the thread starter asked for--give opinions on the issue. and no the thread wasn't "just to point out who wears makeup and who doesn't". get your facts straight before you shoot off next time. ( and, of course, i dont mean to be rude either)

WTF are YOU talking about? do you and ayla not read other posts before you post in a thread?
if ur gonna reply to a certain post in a thread which contained numerous other posts which said makeup was ok or didnt hav a go at it then perhaps u shud introduce urself to the quote function esp. considering the posts above urs said "petra looks gothic yum yumhttp://wtaworld.com/images/smilies/hearts.gif" and "i remember this chic who wore lipstick" (yes both quotes are generalised).

hollywood7172
Jul 28th, 2004, 01:21 PM
if i'm replying to more than one post then of course i'm not gonna waste time cut-and-pasting every single one. i thought my stand on the makeup issue was crystal clear in my post. OBVIOUSLY i was speaking to those against it, not for it.

just because i dont specifically quote someone does NOT mean i am answering to the post directly above mine. that is why we have eyes and a brain so we can read and comprehend what the post is saying.

BTW, my name is hollywood. not too much harder than "ayla" to spell or learn.

No offense but are these real pictures? I mean, who the hell is this big girl? She doesn't look like a tennis player. I'm pretty sure those pictures are more or less collaborated. Right?

P.S. my girl, Sharapove doesn't need the help of make up to look beautiful cuz she's already and naturally so damn good looking!

No in all seriousness ..... If players look better with makeup why shouldnt they wear it even on court. As Serena said "We play better when we look better" (or something along those lines)
They hav like hundreds of cameras on them when they walk on the court ... of course they wanna look good http://wtaworld.com/ubb/wink.gif

P.S. my girl, Sharapove doesn't need the help of make up to look beautiful cuz she's already and naturally so damn good looking!sharapova IS pretty, but she DOES wear makeup. i'm not sure about when on court, but she sure as hell wore makeup to the wimbledon ball. or maybe her lips just become more colored and shiny at night?:D

i know what you are trying to say, but i think it is unfair to assume those who wear make up "need it" to look better. many people who ALREADY look good use make-up---either to have a different look, or to look more serious/formal/sexy/whatever. it's more about change, than improving.

while it must be fun girls get to wear make up and change their looks, i must give them props too because it is a lot of work. i barely have time to wash my face and brush my hair....i could NEVER spend extra time with makeup, nails, lotions, etc etc etc ( not to mention color matching and purses and shoes AAAHHH!!!)...whew!! thank god i'm a guy.

What must their towels look like after they wipe their faces?

There's such a thing as makeup that doesn't run. That's the kind they should be wearing if they want to wear any while playing tennis. Some foundations and concealers also contain SPF in it to protect the skin from UV exposure. I love infomercials! :D
