I really think Serena is playing not to lose instead of to win. If you look at her last three tournements on the forehand side all she does is steer it in instead of going for it and as a result her opponents unload on that shot putting her on the defensive. Until Serena gets her confidence back to just hit her shots she will have more close matches like this because she will be relying too much on her serve and if the returner does what Lindsay did she will lose more matches because it is hard to hold your serve all the time.

A big struggle for Serena against a virtual unknown.

I was watching the live score and it said Serena was up a set AND a break. Then I look again and it said she lost the first set and it was even in the second! Stupid scoreboard...

A big struggle for Serena against a virtual unknown.

This virtual unkown won a title this year, beat Dementieva, Petrova, Maleeva, Shaugnessy, she won Junior Australian Open and was a junior no.1 for a while!!!!!!!!!!

Jelena  you'll beat her very very soon. She played so many close matches this year. She could have been a top 15 is she won them. But she'll be there soon anyway :worship:

true, Serena must have not been playing well but at some point, she must have been aggressive like old cuz she led 5-2 before unraveling. Fortunatley, last 2 sets were 6-2, 6-3.

Onto the next match, a win is a win at this point.

Certainly, we'll take the win but she has definite problems. We can't just ignore it.

Definetely....a win is a win, but the issues are there for sure. A distinct inability to hold serve. If she can´t even rely on her serve, then she has a loooooooooooonnnnggg way to go.

what about some respect for Jelena. Last year in august she was 142, and now she is 43, that's ahuge thing. She will surely be a top 30 by the end of the year :) :)

On a positive note again, I read in the official site that She fired 2 aces at 30-30 5-2 in the third to close out the match, thats the Serena I Know!!!

She still has many issues to solve out, personally I think her footwork is the biggest problem, she´s not taking little steps so shes never in position to hit her groundies in a good position and with aggression. Hopefully she´ll work it out ASAP.

Just a freindly reminder.... she's lost sets at slams she's won- remeber Loit?
...it happens, bottom line is she won. Congrats SERENA!!!

I guess I'm in denial... let me stay put till I'm ready to leave, but i know things are progressing at their own pace and I'm confident I'll be happy with how things eventually play out this year (and so will other Serena fans).

Jeca is good but i'm becoming less and less impressed by Serena each match. first of all that pathetic performance at the Wimby final but maybe that was one match too far for her. then last week she was awful from start to finish...then loses yet ANOTHER set in her 2nd round here. i hope this is just a blip because she is TOO GOOD for how she's playing right now

Yep....this is getting to the point that it is even too bad to call it dissapointing.
