Sharapova and Sharapova. EASY EASY EASY!!!! :)
Maybe not on clay as she hasn't developed her game on clay.
On grass it would be a walk in the park for Sharapova. Straight sets win for Maria.

Fairly easy win for Maria on grass. Close on clay, but Mauresmo should win. Tough victory for Maria on hardcourt.

Of course, she only reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon the last twice she played there.....

Mauresmo isn't bad on grass... she's one of the few all surface players. She is, however, at her best on clay.

I think Maria's concentration and focus would prevail over Momo's mental fragility on all surfaces but clay. Maria in 3.

She didn't choke maybe. But I believe she could have beaten Serena in the Wimbledon semi-finals if she would have been stronger mentally...

One of the BBC commentators was saying that it could have been mental tightness that caused the old back injury to reassert itself.

Maria won their only match, but

a) it was very close

b) it was just an exo

c) played with one of those superset things...Momo might still have won if it had gone to the full three sets.

An on-song, fully-fit Momo beats just about anyone she faces on a given day. I think she'd win most matches against Masha at the moment, but it might change as Masha gets even better. :scared:

She displayed mental toughness as never seen before. Her back injury was indeed the deciding factor that ruined an enjoyable match.

clay and rebound ace - it could be close, advantage Mauresmo.
US hardcourts, grass - Masha, easily.
indoors - even odds.

On grass - there is no contest. Maria would win easily. 2 sets match. If mauresmo plays at her best and Maria plays slightly below par, then Maria will win in 3 sets. On clay, mauresmo might win as its her fav surface. Maria should win on hardcourts.

I want Maria to win as she is very good looking and mauresmo is opposite. Also Maria is more exciting player to watch. :)

When the f.uck did maria become the greatest grass court player ever or even the best today!! Please one wimbledon does not make her the best on that surface.
If you go by that logic than myskina is the greatest clay player ever..Henin is the best harcourt player ever! everyone who aint:smash: know that this aint the case.

Venus williams, serena williams, lindsay davenport are all better grass court players than maria at the present moment- fact.

Imo amelia has to be considered the fave in any matchup with maria- she's been a top player for many years and has all the experience to deal with her raw game.

On clay and rebound ace, Momo....easily, those slices and spins will confound Maria to death. Grass....hmm, I think this is gonna be closer than people seem to think. Momo at her s &v best like against Serena minus the back injuries is gonna give Maria HELL! Plus again...that slice-backhand.

hardcourts is all Maria.

Mo its fact darling- Venus williams has a far better record than Maria on grass.
2 TIMES WINNER AND 2 TIMES FINALIST. She has proved she can do it on this surface year after year! Maybe we can have this debate when maria defends a her wimby title- at the mo she could be a one hit wonder.

Sux Eric Cantona....
One Wimbledon and Maria's the greatest in the world?
Oh wow!
It's just like Manchester United winning the first EPL Title and they're the best team in the world..
It's that easy!
Wow!...I wished I was a tennis player or a soccer star for some whatever team...
Make it to the finals..
Win the first trophy and I'm outta Earth!
Elevated to the status of the BEST in the world...
The real Eric Cantona was definitely one of da best in his game!
Back to tennis...
Maria plays well by hitting precised shots and a lil bit of hard balls..
*No pun intended*
But IMMHO, MoMo would defeat Maria on any given day, provided that she's not hampered by any injuries...

Who cares about records? We were talking about the best grass player AT THE MOMENT. Of course Venus has a better record, she is playing a lot longer than Maria. If you would only look at the records that would probably mean Martina Navratilova is the best grass player. Now I respect Martina a lot, but I don't think she is the greatest grass player AT THE MOMENT.

What does at the moment mean? today? wimby was 4 weeks agos- whats to say that if lindsay played maria on grass today she wouldn't win? Every player has there day- lindsay with her renewed confidence today would probably have won that 2nd set tiebreak. The point iam making is that just becuase maria beat a few good players to win wimbly doesn't mean she could do it again today/next week/month/year and therefore to say that she is the best on grass at the moment is silly....

What does at the moment mean? You came up with that, not me...

Did I say Lindsay couldn't beat Maria? No, I didn't. Of course Lindsay could beat Maria, she's a great player. She had a bad period but she's really back now.

Is it really that silly to say that the reigning Wimbledon champion is the best grass player on the moment? How else would you make that decision? This could change any day of course. A lof of factors have a role in this. Form of the day, fatigue, injuries, mental state etcetera.

She is indeed a great player, but to say that she is the BEST after seeing her for two matches??? I don't think anyone would know how it would go between Momo and Masha, simply because they played together only once and not even for a serious game.
They both have different games, and it is to each player to find a way to beat each other, not to people who saw two-three of her games and think she is dominating the world.

aime
Jul 28th, 2004, 04:13 PM
I think Amelie is the most complete player right now, I mean she has all the shoots, all the effects - top-spin, slice, forehand grat backhand, she volleys a lot, comes to the net, smashes... I don't deny Sharapova is good but I think she has still to learn a lot, especially technic stuff, otherwise she has power and knows to hit the ball. I like Amelie's play much more! I could not say who would win because it counts also the luck, the mood of the players in that day, the health and so on...

CJK
Jul 29th, 2004, 03:28 PM
I wonder if Elena can possibly stop Lindsay before the final, probably not now that Amelie is out.
So the focus will be on the other half, with anticipation of Serena vs Maria rematch of Wimbledon final.

If Mauresmo played Sharapova who would u want to win, also who do u think would win.

I would want Sharapova to win easily.
If its on grass then the game would be TOO easy for Sharapova.
On Hardcourts Sharapova should win but closer game.
On Clay providing its not played in France, Mauresmo has the advantage.

So Sharapova wins Wimbledon she is the best grass court player of all time, Mauresmo reaches semifinals twice on as many attempts, and almost beat Serena ( another grass court champ), and she is the worst grass court player ever?
I can't understand your logic.
I really like Sharapova, but some of her fans are really delusional thinking she is the best player of all time now. Let's wait a few years and see.

again this is just an opinion, as we have not seen Sharapova much on grass yet, nor Mauresmo to take their strenghths/differences into account. If Sharapova beats Momo five time in a row on grass then yes Maria is way better, but if she beats a player only once, you still can't tell. and Momo and Maria still haven't played each other.

again, it is not personal, I am just posting my opinion and having a fun debate between players' fans

I cannot wait for the match up, I think it will be will be a great match. If u think about it Maria was beaten by Suarez in the French and struggled against Ai at wimbly. She is definetly troubled by players who mix it alot, and Amelie and Justine are the best at that so I think the fore mentioned will cause her trrouble.

Both players are equally capable of doing well on grass when they're at their best. Matches between these two players definitely won't be lopsided. A close contest is what we're going to see. Except of course, in lil exhibition matches.
