Hey All,
First let me say that of course, I was hoping Serena could pull it out. Yet - I have always appreciated Lindsay's play. She is such a clean striker of the ball. When she ruled and won her three slams - there was none in sight to challenge her. I enjoy watching her play.
I think Lindsay beating the Williams' sisters is good for women's tennis - if for no other reason - it will give Lindsay confidence to stick around for another year. Sure she is married now and wants to start a family - and I wish her the best when she does retire. Yet - I would miss her.
I love Venus and Serena - and I want them to win always - but since they lost to Lindsay - I have to move on and get over it. I think Lindsay winning is good for tennis because she is one of the elite players on tour - and to have back to back wins over two players that she hadn't beaten in four years has to boost her confidence.
IMO - the tour is greater than it has ever been. I honestly believe the Sisters need a challenge. They had to improve and grow in order to gain a winning record against Martina and Lindsay. Some felt then that they never would - but they proved them wrong. Now - they have to up their level again in order to win more than they lose - and there is nothing wrong with that. Sure fans of players would like them to win every time they take to the court. But realistically - with today's field - that might not happen.
It is an exciting time on the WTA tour. When my faves win the big ones again - and I have no doubts that they will, it will be - "Oh Happy Day." The thing is - they will not win them all - but in losing - they have to gear themselves up for the challenge again. How boring would it be to Venus and Serena if they won every time they stepped on any court? I think they would quit tennis sooner than later if they never lost - and this is just my opinion.
I congratulate Lindsay for winning her two tourneys in a row - and hope she returns to the tour next year. Needless to say - I hope the sisters have a great showing in their next tourneys, and especially the Olympics and the US Open.
"YOU DID GOOD SERENA" "CONGRATULATIONS" "CONGRATULATIONS LINDSAY"
