View Full Version : Who Else Is Happy With The State Of Women's Tennis Today?

Hey All,

First let me say that of course, I was hoping Serena could pull it out. Yet - I have always appreciated Lindsay's play. She is such a clean striker of the ball. When she ruled and won her three slams - there was none in sight to challenge her. I enjoy watching her play.

I think Lindsay beating the Williams' sisters is good for women's tennis - if for no other reason - it will give Lindsay confidence to stick around for another year. Sure she is married now and wants to start a family - and I wish her the best when she does retire. Yet - I would miss her.

I love Venus and Serena - and I want them to win always - but since they lost to Lindsay - I have to move on and get over it. I think Lindsay winning is good for tennis because she is one of the elite players on tour - and to have back to back wins over two players that she hadn't beaten in four years has to boost her confidence.

IMO - the tour is greater than it has ever been. I honestly believe the Sisters need a challenge. They had to improve and grow in order to gain a winning record against Martina and Lindsay. Some felt then that they never would - but they proved them wrong. Now - they have to up their level again in order to win more than they lose - and there is nothing wrong with that. Sure fans of players would like them to win every time they take to the court. But realistically - with today's field - that might not happen.

It is an exciting time on the WTA tour. When my faves win the big ones again - and I have no doubts that they will, it will be - "Oh Happy Day." The thing is - they will not win them all - but in losing - they have to gear themselves up for the challenge again. How boring would it be to Venus and Serena if they won every time they stepped on any court? I think they would quit tennis sooner than later if they never lost - and this is just my opinion.

I congratulate Lindsay for winning her two tourneys in a row - and hope she returns to the tour next year. Needless to say - I hope the sisters have a great showing in their next tourneys, and especially the Olympics and the US Open.

Great post, Triple G. Its a good event when several players can win it. :yeah:

I would prefer the Williams sisters to dominate. But I agree, that there are no clear favorites to win the US open. Which makes it more exciting.

Of course, I will be cheering for my favorites to win it.

I really want Venus to win the US open. But the winner of the US open will have to play extremely well.

Domination is boring, I really like it right now, it could do with a bit more depth, but no fav for the US is good.

I was thinking in the past 2 weeks that women's tennis is taking all the attention from the men's tennis again... that's great!

Just go back 20 years and it was chris, martina, chris, martina and then martina again.........and also that hana mandlikova who would occasionly beat them. Then go back to 1994 and it was graf, ASV and........martinez( the one who won wimbledon by beating 38 year old martina navratilova). Things are nicely balanced now because i believe that henin and serena at there best is gunna be battle for the ages. Then there is venus who has the talent, clijsters who will end her slam final hoodoo soon. Sharapova and myskina who are the slam holders at the moment so they can't be bad.
