I'm a total Sandrine fan, but I have to agree with Danke Anke. Since she's running out of Wildcards, she should of played either Challenger tournaments, or participated in qualies (even though she said she wouldn't) to get some match wins and regain her confidence and form. By entering the main draw and losing first round isn't going to give you much time to work on your singles. Plus, I'm not quite understanding why she played Palermo which is on clay when the Olympics and the U.S. Open are on hard courts. She's a much better player on hard courts than clay, and so I think this was a wasted wildcard even though I love to see her play. Would of loved if she came to Montreal for the Rogers Cup, but hopefully she'll be around next year in Toronto.

tjord00
Jul 20th, 2004, 09:11 PM
Well I think the reason she played in Palermo is becaue she won this thing back in '97 and also her husband is Italian... But I agree she needs to play smaller tournaments. Even though I love Sandrine I want someone to win their first title... Only Nagyova, Medina-Garrigues, and Srebotnik need to be eliminated!!! Any word on Flavia's match???

GoSandrine
Jul 20th, 2004, 09:15 PM
another close loss :sad: :sad: :sad:

Sandrine is clearly lacking is confidence to pull out these tight matches and I'm sure she is frustrated.

Folks, I believe Sandrine wants to stay close to her daughter (she lives in Rome) and that is her number one priority so that is why she didn't travel to America. I'm sure she expected to have chalked up more wins at this point but balancing motherhood and a career has to be tough. If she can just win a couple of matches I trust she will regain lost confidence and string some wins together.

I'm not sure what her schedule will be to prep for Athens. All I know is she does plan to play New Haven and New York. Sandrine appreciates everyone's support and I trust she will win some singles matches before the year ends.

Congrats Ludmilla ::)

Sandrine beat Magui Serna in Doha earlier in the year.

She also beat Nuria Llagostres Vives (I think that's how you spell it?) and Angelika Roesch in Ortisei.

I wish the best of luck to Sandrine, and I hope that she stays around until next year so I can see her in Toronto!!!

One other thing...does Sandrine plan on practicing anytime soon with Nathalie Dechy before Athens? I think at this point of the year, most people going to Athens usually pair up with their partner they'll play with there for experience.

I totally understand Sandrine's committment to her child and staying in Europe. It must be very tough on her, but that's why we like her so much. A truly humble and hard-working lady!

Too bad Sandrine won't practice with Nathalie. However, Nathalie did well as she beat Conchita 6:4 6:4. Perhaps Nathalie will fly to Athens directly after Montreal and they'll practice together in Athens with the French team. But, I believe they've played doubles together often in Fed Cup prior to 2002 when Sandrine retired?

When will Arantxa be on court in Palermo for doubles? I hope she does well in Athens as well!!!
