Lindsay has to beat Venus in the semis and Serena in the final to win, but she can do it!

Go Lindz!

Is that half of the draw?! If not why is Petrova at the top?

Also, how much longer does Venus get protected ranking? She doesn't seem to be showing any possitive results from this protective rank......

Yes, it's the bottom half.

This is Venus' last tournament with the special seeding. I wish Lindsay got hers for this long. :o

Well, yeah, I thought Venus is having the protective for a long time but I thought it was just me......it certainly feels like a long time. How come she's had it this long? Does it depend how long a player was out for? If so, Monica Seles will be having a loooooooong protective ranking if she comes back ;)

It's because she's Venus Williams. She got it extended earlier in the year for no reason. She's had it for eleven tournaments over seven months. Lindsay had her's for eight tournaments, and they refused to extend it. Yet, Lindsay overall had better results, and lived up to her seeding all but one time.

Yes, Lindsay almost always lived up to her seeding. Not so with Venus. She is yet to live up to her seeding at any Grand Slam events this year. It's ridiculous how much favoritism the WTA is displaying and how unfair they truly are. I haven't seen Kremer or Panova being able to use any protected ranking to get higher seedings at tournaments.

Boy, do I want to see Davenport trash "the best server on tour" Petrova in the quarters and then beat up on the Willies in the semis and finals to win LA! :D

Andrew.
Jul 20th, 2004, 06:11 PM
Petrova is slumping big time right now. I wouldn't be suprised if she didn't make the quarters.

Okay now let's not jinx ourselves, Lindsay has a pretty tough draw this week. But man, I am looking forward to a Lindsay-Venus semi!

Jul 20th, 2004, 11:47 PM
Is Petrova slumping? She played well at Wimbledon, just lost to a better play that day in Capriati. I suppose Schnyder could be tough for her in the Round of 16, but otherwise her draw to the quarters is easy as pie. Not so for Davenport, who has got Kremer, Schaul, Frazier, and Schett as possible threats before the Final 8.

good luck this week lindsay, it is quite possible for you to win this tournament, i hope its a Lindsay vs Venus in the semis :hearts:

I am looking forward to a rematch of Lindsay and Venus with the same result of course, but it would be good for Lindsay to do it in 2 sets this time, although I would of course settle for 3 as long as she wins. Come on Lindsay, beat Venus and then she won't have a winning record over you.

I think last week Lindsay could have finished it in two, but I think there were some nerves starting to creep in during her last service game. But she won, so I don't care lol.

Yes, she did have 7-6, 5-4, 30-30 on Venus's serve. Actually, she was two points away in three different serve games of Venus, at 5-4 in the second, 5-4 in the third, and 6-5 in the third. I noticed that Venus double-faulted at 30-15 in all three of those games, but came out of each holes with big serving or unforced errors from Lindsay. Thankfully, Davenport was the better breaker player.

And don't forget that Lindsay easily could have lost in straights, considering those 4 set points against her in the first. ;)

If you're going through all the missed chances, she would have still won. Lindsay had five break points in the first game to counter Venus' 4 set points. It all evens out.

Okay, let's talk about how we feel in regards to Lindsay's match tonight against Kremer. Lindsay holds a 4-0 H2H advantage over Kremer, and has never dropped a set. I think Lindsay should get by without any problems.

C'mon Lindsay have a good run here:)

Leo_DFP
Jul 21st, 2004, 11:12 PM
Kremer should be no problem, although she did play well in the grass court season. If Davenport has one of her I-don't-give-a-shit-and-I'd-rather-be-making-babies-with-Jon days, it could be difficult, but that's not likely. I'm more worried about Frazier awaiting in the 3rd round. She's an excellent returner and has been in good form recently .

Andrew.
Jul 21st, 2004, 11:31 PM
Meh. Frazier's serve has been known to implode against the top players, as it did against Venus last week. Frazier was hot last week, and really didn't trouble Venus. I don't see her doing that much to Lindsay.

Even if Lindsay was acting horrible and down today, with no motivation, it would be hard for Kremer to push her to 3 sets.

Good win over Kremer. I think Amy will be tough as she has been playing quite well lately but she does double fault a lot , especially against the top players, which has already been mentioned in this thread and I think Lindsay should come through this ok.

Do well Lindsay :) :worship: :D

This is the first I've heard of Lindsay's win......while I'm at work, it's like I'm on another planet! LOL.

Good win though. I guess it must be tough the following week, when a player knows they played great tennis the week before, and then has to come of a huge (an extremely draining) finals match to win what should be a relatively easy match.

Even though the first set was 7-5, it seems Lindsay soon came around to win the match convinsingly in the second!

Congrats Lindsay and well done!

Amy is playing well, but her serve is less than stellar. Lindsay should be able to rip a few return winners to build some confidence. Lindsay is 9-0 against Amy and has only lost one set to her; let's make it 10-0, Lindsay!!

Davenport sported a silver disc necklace with the word 'WIFE' on it. Asked about the necklace, which was a gift from her husband of one year, Davenport said, "Oh God, it's embarrassing. It's just something funny he found."

Well, Eurosport says the following for it's schedule:

23:15http://www.eurosport.co.uk/zones/V4/img/tvSchedule/center_small_dark_arrow.gif TENNIS (http://www.eurosport.co.uk/home/pages/V4/L2/S57/sport_Lng2_Spo57.shtml) WTA Tournament Los Angeles United States
Semi-finals

*NB This time is apparently CET. So 22.00 british time.........Lindsay's match is due @ 1pm LA time, which is around 10pm UK time, so I wonder if it will be shown live - even though Eurosport don't state that it's live??????????????????

What do you all think?

Rayrob, I think Lindsay's match will be played at 9.00 pm BST and that Eurosport will show it but not live. I don't mind as long as they do show it. It is down for 11.15pm our time and they have given it an hour and a half slot!

Good Luck Linds - you can do it :)

YEAH!!!!!!!!! this was a match and a half!! firstly lindsay had 2 bps in the 1st game but failed to convert and then venus raced away to a 5-0 lead and then called the trainer. At this point lindsay got her head sorted out and came back to take the next 7 games to get the first set. 7-5

Then at 2-0 venus retired so on the up LINDSAYS IN THE FINAL!!!! :D:D:D:bowdown: :worship: :hearts:

but poor venus, it looked as if she was crying and lindsay was being motherly and comforting her...

aaawww:angel: I can't wait to see the recording on eurosport.

I am happy Lindsay is through - more then happy. But I'm a little dissappointed that I set myself up for another classic match. I come away from my friends graduation party early to prepare to watch the scores flick up on the screen. I even got my two tubs of Tesco melon and J2O drink ready to curle up for the evening with a bit of exciting tennis.

Never mind, I'll have to save my second tub of melon and J2O for the Eurosport recording of the match.....because I ate the other tub while typing this.:lick:

Speak soon,
