Now that Indian players seem to be the most out-of-form, hopeless (:-)) bunch out there in pool A, having only won 2 sets in 20 so far, having been swept by even New Zealand, and looking ready for another sad outing to Taipei, I have a queation - how many teams will be relegated to group-II (I assume, TWO teams?) and how will those be decided?

With 5 teams in pool-A and 6 in pool-B, will they do a round-robin among #5 in pool A, and #5 and #6 from pool B ?

Gosh, did we miss Niru out there! (and I can't wait for Sania Mirza to grow older) .. The last time Niru did not play Fed Cup for India, about 5-6 years back, India got relegated to group-II .. Hope that doesn't happen again.

Jay

[BTW, I cannot believe that I went several months without knowing that the old WTA website crowd had moved here -- till aceman told me yesterday! .. I am making my quiet, shy, appearance here :-) ..]

Hello Jay :wavey: . Ii I am not mistaken, you were asking yourself the same questions regarding selection of teams to be relegated to group II in your excellent Tennis India site (as Ed T. would put it ;) ). Am I right?

I must say I do not know unfortunately :o . Danker, any idea?

Hello Jay! :D
Long time no chat! ;)

India's performance as left plenty to be desired this year.

Back in 2000, when there were also 11 teams, they simply took the worst performing team from each group. I have no idea what they're planning to do this year.

It'll be sad to see India relegated to Group II if it happens, because I feel that they generally have better players than Uzbekististan (minus Tulyaganova), Hong Kong, etc.

BTW, off topic here, but do you know when Niru will return with her protected rank? Her last tourney was in October/November...

Hope to see you posting here often from now on!

yes, steve, I was wondering about that same question on who gets relegated from group-I in my web notes .. nobody has told me yet.

But if they actually pick the last two from each pool, that danker says they did once, that would be the most unfair thing. The last team in the 5 team group is clearly at a huge disadvantage. Eespecially so this time, when smaller pool-A was quite a bit stronger that pool-B. Pool-B has 2 or 3 teams that India had a chance against, but pool-A had only NZL that India could have hoped to beat. UNFAIR! :p

Good to be here .. Yes, danker, long time no see .. Niru has to be off for 6 months to get injury ranking protection. So she decided to get married also. Getting married on May 23rd in India. She is expected back in June (she hates grass, so it may be right after Wimbledon, I guess).
