Okay, I'm going to make a prediction. Amelie will win the gold (would prefer it to be Mary though! ;) )
If you look at past winners, Amelie is a cert for the title!
1992 - Jennifer, wins her first major title after a couple of years of promise
1996 - Lindsay, wins her first major title after a couple of years of promise
2000 - Venus - this doesn't follow the pattern but bare with me ;)
2004 - Amelie, wins her first major after (more than) a couple of years of promise.
Amelie seems much more relaxed when playing for her country, has a 2 year unbeaten streak in Fed Cup and won't get as nervous as she would in a Grand Slam final. Guy Forget will also be on hand to give her support/calm her down.
What do you think?
Also a thread where Maria Shaparova won't be mentioned as she's not going to Athens :p

Yes...I'd have to say that Amelie seems more at ease playing for her country than it is in a GS. I would dearly love to see her win the Olympic Gold...Perhaps, that would be a prelude to a better future, coz she'd probably grow in confidence whereby winning a GS is a possibility. When Momo's confident, she has a game that's almost unbeatable. Varying strokes and a wicked single-handed backhand? My bet would be that she'd win the Oly Gold..And a GS within the next 2 years.

The gold medal will be for the local player!
She is preparing for this since years ago, she talks and dreams with Athens 2004 since a long time ago, and she (the local player) will be undefeatable!

Must admit that I had to check the acceptance list first, wasn't 100% sure of the contestants :) But here's my predictions:
Singles
Gold: Daniela Hantuchova
Silver: Serena Williams
Bronze: Claudine Schaul
Doubles:
Gold: Daniela Hantuchova/Janette Husarova
Silver: Martina Navratilova/Lisa Raymond
Bronze: Ting Li/Tian Tian Sun
Obviously the draw could make those predictions impossible.
Fantastic

I'd put my money (not that I'm a betting man  ) on Anastasia Myskina to win the Gold for RUSSIA. :)
watch for Daniilidou, greeks are fanatics about sports. She can win a medal if not a gold one

I don't think Amelie has a good chance. I mean, she's always struggled in big tournaments and the fact that she plays well at Fed Cup, is that it's not really big. I mean there are so many players that skip it. She beats Rodionova! No duh she's winning.
Gold- Serena
Silver- Venus
Bronze- Lindsay
Darkhorses: Vera, Anastasia, Elena Dementieva

Singles
Gold: Venus Williams
Silver: Serena Williams
Bronze: Dementieva
Judging from the summer hardcourt season so far and the dominance of Davenport, I say if healthy Venus will take gold. Of all the matches
Davenport has played it has only been Venus who has caused her any
real trouble, in Stanford and LA until the injury.
I think if on opposite halfs this will be Venus' first defeat of Serena in years
and will finally get rid of the apprehention of playing her sister once again.
Dementieva will lose to either sister and win the bronze medal match
staying on the podium despite not being able to defend her silver medal
from Sydney.
I think V&S will dominate doubles so long as
both are in goo health.
BTW, anniflava,
Lindsay isn't playing.

I really hope Benesova will do a great tournament! :bounce: :bounce:yeah me too!!! :bounce: :bounce:, she will have it i hope. The olympics are always a surprising tournament, Wiggly, i hope the Bronze medals will come true ( i'm dreaming of gold for our Iveta, but i'm afraid that's not possible!!!!
I think the MOST motivated will be Serena and Elena D.
They both have never got it and both desperately want it. Its such a rare honour.
I hope Elena D or Jen takes it. Amelie certainly has a chance, however on hardcourt, I'm gona favour Elena, Williams x 2 over her.
