Lindsay will most likely be retiring after the US Open because of her knee, which will need another operation because of the cartilage degeneration. Here is a part of the article.

By Matthew Cronin

FROM WIMBLEDON Lindsay Davenport told ******************** that her aching surgically repaired right knee would likely cause her to retire soon. Davenport, who reached the third round of Wimbledon, won't play the Olympics and is looking at Wimbledon and the US Open as her last two great chances to win her fourth Slam.

Lindsay :crying2:

Where does it say she needs surgery again?

Cartilage degeneration means more surgery if she wants to play.

I think that unless she has another major injury then she will continue for at least a year, after that I would imagine it depends on how competitive she feels. She will probably retire when she no longer believes she can win another Grand Slam. Her life, her decision. On a more positive note, as one of the more articulate and intelligent players I am sure a high profile tennis role, commentator perhaps, would beckon if she wanted.

When cartliage degenerates there is not a lot you can do about it. I don't think surgery will cure this.

I heard David Mercer saying about Lindsay's knee condition when he was commentating on one of her matches this week. He said it would probably be her last year on tour but I fet he was saying that the decision to retire was in the balance until the end of the year when she could assess the situation. I didn't here him say she would retire after the US Open. I hope she doesn't, I would hope she could play the year end championships this year.

Whatever, she will be missed when she does go, especially with us TOP members.

I think she is taking it one tournament at a time.

No :( Hopes this is wrong. My interest is tennis is slowly fading and if/when Lindsay retires I probably won't follow the game anymore

I'm like you Shirley!!!!! And I think she won't play anymore after her second knee surgery, because she will miss a half of a season again, and it's very hard to make up for lost time, she did it one time, but she won't do it another time, because women's tennis evolves very quikely, and she knows she won't be able to be in the top anymore. So now, we just have to enjoy to see her playing well, and winning matchs, if she wants to retire, no one can make her change her mind, if she thinks it's time to do it, so she will do it, and I think we're lucky because she wanted to retire last year, but she kept on playing, and playing very well. But now, do think anymore about Lindsay's retirement, and think about her chances to be in final, please!!!!!!!!! Go Lindsay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with Nikki, she is taking it one tournament at a time an if she can play on without the knee surgery if she is abe to I think she will. However, if she does have more surgery then yes she will retire. So yes lets think of her chances of getting to the final. Can she beat Sharapova, a tough match but I think she can.
