A maximum of 4 singles and 4 doubles (2 pairs) and 6 total for each gender per country.
Great Britain would not qualify any women player. I would expect the cut to be around 80, and there is no Brittish lady anywhere near that...

National Associations that have entered the Tennis Event at the 2004 Olympic Games have now been advised by the ITF

which of their players are eligible for direct acceptance, and have been asked to nominate the men and women who will

represent them in Athens. These nominations must have National Olympic Committee endorsement and must be received

by the ITF by Monday 28 June 2004.

Direct acceptances are based on the rankings of 14 June 2004. A total of 56 players (48 direct acceptances plus 8 ITF

Places/Wild Cards) will gain direct entry into the Mens and Womens Singles Events. Twenty-four teams will receive

direct acceptance into the Mens and Womens Doubles Events, with automatic entry going to those players ranked in the

top 10 in the doubles rankings on 14 June 2004.

The Regulations of the Tennis Event at the 2004 Olympic Games allow for a maximum of six men and six women to be

nominated by any one country with a maximum of four men and four women able to compete in the singles events.Taking

this into account, the initial cut-off ranking for direct acceptance into singles is 70 for the men and 68 for the women.

At this stage, only players with a doubles ranking in the top 10 are considered to have direct entry into the Mens and

Womens Doubles Events; the remaining doubles teams will be selected by the ITF, using the criteria in the Regulations,

once nominations and wild card applications have been received. A nation may nominate a maximum of two doubles

teams per Doubles Event providing the total number of players of each gender nominated for all events does not exceed

six.

Nations that do not have the maximum number of players for direct acceptance are invited to apply for ITF Places (Wild

Cards). Applications for ITF Places must be returned to the ITF by no later than Monday 28 June.

what the hell is Tripartite commitee????

The two (2)Invitations in each singles event shall be selected by a Tripartite
Commission comprising the IOC,NOCs &ITF.These Invitations will
comprise high-level players who are not direct acceptances, but who belong to
NOCs entering few competitors in other sports. The final decision regarding
the technical level of the player for the allocation of the Invitations will rest
with the ITF.

It seems that Czink and Cervanova were overlooked in singles to allow Nagy and Husarova qualify in doubles.
Perebiynis and Kanepi probably qualified in doubles, but so did Sequera and Stosur... and why Beygelzimer was selected over Vakulenko?

Also I wonder why Russia didn't select Petrova in doubles...

Seeding will be determined by next week's ranking, so it's not known yet...
Take in consideration that 6 players in the top-22 are not going to Athens:
Davenport
Clijsters
Sharapova
Zvonareva
Bovina
