Guys, my chest has been hurting now for about 6 hours and it won't go away. I've tried to sleep it off in the past 4 hours, but it won't go away. It's like this really sharp pain in my chest, right over my heart, and sometimes it hurts bad. It hurst badly when I take in deep breaths and just winces from time to time on its own. Does anybody know what might be wrong with me, I'm kind of scared?:tape:

never had anything like that, but by the feel of it you should be able to determine whether it feels serious. If you have slightest suspicion that it could cardiovascular, rather than muscular, call your doctor immedaitely.

Age is unimportant in this

If it's pain, seek help

It could be serious, but mostly it's bad indigestion, or stomach acid rising..............and it does bloody feel like a heart attack

I have. I suggest you see a doctor if it gets more serious. But try eating something light like a piece of fruit (it could be that you ate a lot before), or drink something like tea or coffee, or try and be a little active like take a walk. It could be heartburn.

Don't you get kinda paralysed if you get a heart attack. It can't be. Or at least it can't be going on for 6 hours.

I think age is very important. If VeNuS#1LoVa is less than 50 it's not likely a heart attack.

Still I agree with the second bit - if you're worried, take a painkiller and seek medical advice ASAP.

Yeah, i've had a very minor one and that hurt enough, though it built up for about 12 hours, so it's best to get help now

I had that, had the EKG and all done on me, as well as the heart monitor. It was something called "Pluracy" (spelling?) all it was, was a build up of fluid in my lungs. From what I understand I still have it to this day, and it was just infected and acted up at that time. But I know people that have died from it, and I got it around 14 years old, so sometimes I worry now that I'm 24 about how filled up with fluid my lungs might be. :scared:

Go to a doctor anyway, and find out what's wrong. I hope you get well!

Well, my minor heart attack was when i was 27, which i still am for another few days, but was in September last year. I've also known a chap have one at 18, but he was obese

My understanding is that that's exactly how it goes. You are not paralised at all. The first symptoms are normally very vague. What happens is that a blood supply is cut fomr the heart muscle, the muscle is still working but it starts to die, then at some point - normally few hours at least - Bang! - and it is dead enough to no longer be able to pricess all blood flow and at that point it is irreversible.

In fact, everyone should have some heart medicine at home. Nitroglicerine is the simplest one..

You're very unfortunate to have had such bad luck. That kind of thing is extremely rare. Good that it was only minor :).

Still if the pain is worse on taking deep breaths it's more likely to be lung related in origin - but all this internet diagnosis is probably more worrying than reassuring for VeNuS#1LoVa so I'm going to shut up now :tape:.

If you're worried about the pain, seek medical advice VeNuS#1LoVa.

I've had pain like that before....it goes away eventually....all pain does. Just ignore it like me.....on the other hand, you should probably never do anything that I do....

Anything can happen at any age. There are many more causes of chest pain than heart attacks. You have to have some common sense about things - it's more likely to be pleuritic chest pain than cardiac depending on the patient's age and risk factors.

Nitroglycerine is not without its side effects. Better to take some ibuprofen or antacids - if either of them help then that's a good sign.

Very fortunate indeed, although all the stress i caused myself didn't help, so i am not blameless.

And stupid as i am, they told me to take time off work, and i went back next day.

Changed my outlook on life to a point. I still get depressed etc, but now i don't care what people think of me, only what i do :)

Back to the main point, it's best to look stupid and be told it's heartburn than ignore it and have a heart attack

Hey All, thank you for your concern. And I am fifteen years old...

I've had this feeling before, but only for a few seconds, never likes this. It still hurts, I've told my parents, mand they said just wait awhile, and see how it is. I tried to look pup heart pain on the internet and all it listed was a heartattack, which I've read up on the symptoms and such. One thing that scared me was that one website says:

Pain spreading to the shoulders, neck or arms. The pain may be mild to intense. It may feel like pressure, tightness, burning, or heavy weight. It may be located in the chest, upper abdomen, neck, jaw, or inside the arms or shoulders.

I've felt a little weird ness on my shoulder on my left side of the body. I don't know, it's just a very sharp pain that is very severe when I take deep breaths. My sister is a nurse and I've asked her and she said I should get it looke at. But I'm so scared, if it was something serious, I don't know what I'd do. I hate hospitals and I'm freaked out by any operation..But I'm jumping to conclusions too soon, but I'd just like to know that it is...

Thanks for your concern, VeNuS#1LoVa

Is your arm hurting? Are you nauseated? If not, it may be gas, but you should go to the emergency room to check it out, just to be on the safe side.

I've had pains like that before, but most of them ended up being nothing but gas in my estimation. I would do something to get the gas out and the pain would go away. It really is scary shit though.

Go to a doctor right away.

I had slight pressure in my chest when running many months ago.. I got all worried and went to the Dr for some tests. Everything turned out fine. But I am glad i went as it gave me peace of mind.

I had some heart/chest pain once... it felt like there was some kind of constriction of the blood vessels... in any case, it passed after 20 seconds and it was fine... probably just another blood clot on its way to destination brain. In fact it's happened to me a few times, but not in the past 12 months. I also used to get this weird pain in the back of my head where it felt like two distinct parts of my skull had overlapped and were pressing into my brain - crazy eh? Anyway that usually passed after 10-15 seconds too, sometimes with the aid of a couple of whacks on the head. Me and my crazy body. If I wasn't in tip-top shape I might be quite worried about these bizarre ailments I used to get - luckily I am an expert in DIY medicine.

There's a simple "do it yourself" test which is somewhat useful (though NOT a substitute for an electrocardiogram). With the lower knuckle on your right index finger, knead the fleshy area below your left thumb. If the area isn't hypersensitive (compare by using the left forefinger on the same area below the right thumb, a "neutral zone") its probably not heart related.

Other possible causes include a muscle pull in the rib cage area, a collapsed lung, or a blood clot of the type caused by immobility as on a long flight, which "migrated" (itself dangereous, and usually treated with blood thinners) as well as the fluid accumulation you described. (Re. pleurisy, its often treated with diuretics to reduce the fluid volume).

A key distinction re. movement is relevant. Usually, if simply bending or twisting brings on the sympyoms, its not cardiovascular. If only lifting something, or something else requiring more oxygen does, it could be. (Though "fluid in the lungs" ALSO decreases available oxygen of course). BTW, anyone who ever had pleurisy should get a pneumonia vaccine every 5 years.
