Because of long-lasting backproblems, Elke Clijsters decided to retire from professional tennis.

She does want to stay active in tennis, and wants to guide young players.

Good luck Elke!

Elke:sad:

But when Kim gets fit again I think she should hire Elke as her hitting partner:) That would keep her involved in tennis, okay Kim ins't a young player but she ins't old:p

  Good she won her first title some weeks ago, she quitted an a high :)
All the best Elke

I can imagine that this is a very very hard decision for a 19-yr old girl..

I'm not even a pro, and I would be devasted if I had to stop playing tennis

Oh, that's a shame...
So she's out for the Fed Cup as well? Who's gonna take her place now?

I didn't see this coming, have a feeling other Belgians may follow her way soon tho...

All the best, Elke

Yeah, 'het was met serieuze tegenzin' following some papers and Sporza TT. But health goes in first place

Belgian women's tennis will become like Belgian Judo soon :help:
Everybody's retiring or in a slump :awww: What if Els & Caroline call it a day this year too!! With Kim & Justine probably not playing, we'd have Kirsten Flipkens, Evelyne van Hyfte, Debbrich Feys & Leslie Butkiewicz in our Fed Cup team :bolt:

And who is there in the future?

Crossing fingers and hoping for some talents between all the youngsters who started playing tennis because of Kim and Justine :)
And I still hope Aude will make some progress fast, she showed good things some weeks ago in Charlerloi...

I don't think that will be the Belgian Fed Cup team ever because 1/ I don't think Els will retire mid season. and 2/ Kim will be fit next year as will Henin. For that to be the team, Belgium will somehow have to beat Spain and then Els would have to retire, which if they beat Spain, i really don't see happening:p

SO don't worry, the team will be :worship: again next year:)

pff bad weeks for Belgian tennis ... Elke well they say she was more tallented than Kim (as kids) but there are many other things needed to become a topplayer. Well I think it's a wise descision because health is the most important thing! But it's sad

I would not be 100% certain about Leslie, Imagine Debodt in our fed-cup team :tape: ;)

Either Elke hasn't bothered to withdraw or she has and they haven't taken her off the list, cause Elke has retired, she has withdrawn from the Fed Cup, Lei confirmed her retirement to Van Aken who confirmed it to the media and Kim also wrote about it in her diary on her official site.

Merde! I don't know anything about her tennis, but she is one of the hottest babes in tennis. A painful blow indeed. And with Kim injured, I will have to turn to Sharapova et. al. for comfort.

I heard about that and it's horrible news, but Kim says that she will try and convince Elke to play doubles with her, and maybe she could become a coach!
