Just a few memorable movies I liked from everyone's favourite decade :)

* Besides Superman II, James Bond 'License to Kill', Indiana Jones, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, E.T., Rocky III, Poltergeist, Gremlins, Crocodile Dundee, The Blues Brothers, Police Academy, The Karate Kid, Ghostbusters and Back to the Future I & II, here are some other memorable 80s movies I liked:

- 9 to 5 (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0080319/): the only chick-flick I actually don't mind watching.

- Coal Miner's Daughter (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0080549/).

- Ordinary People (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0081283/).

- On Golden Pond (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0082846/).

- Chariots of Fire (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0082158/).

- Absence of Malice (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0081974/).

- Tootsie (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0084805/).

- The best little whorehouse in Texas (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0083642/).

- Terms of Endearment (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0086425/).

- Mr Mom (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0085970/).

- Splash (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0088161/).

- The Colour Purple (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0088939/) :worship: Excellent performance by Whoopi Goldberg and a good effort by Spielberg.

- Cocoon (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0088933/).

- Ruthless People (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0091877/): I love this movie!!! Danny DeVito and Bette Midler are really funny in this one

- Three Men and a Baby (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0094137/).

- The Secret of my Success (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0093936/).

- Moonstruck (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0093565/): Saw this on an aeroplane. I found it boring at first, but managed to like it in the end :tape:

- Stakeout (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0094025/): Not really memorable and it's predictable, but it's funny

- The Witches of Eastwick (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0094332/): I can't believe this was an 80s movie!

- Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0096438/): Loved it!!! :worship:

- Twins (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0096320/).

- Die Hard (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0095016/): Why are the Japanese always end up as either the bad guys or victims in 80s Hollywood films? :tape:

- Oliver and Company (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0095776/).

- Batman (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0096895/): The original was always the best :worship:

- Look who's talking? (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0097778/).

- Honey, I shrunk the kids (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0097523/): I used to love this one, but I liked the sequel better :tape:

- Driving Miss Daisy (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0097239/): :worship: Morgan Freeman is probably the only actor who features in only good, mature films (e.g. The Shawshank Redemption).

So anyone got any good 80s movies recommendations?

Thanks for the list guys, please keep 'em coming ;)

Jack, thanks for the link - but why does a message keep popping up about redirecting? It always seems to redirect me to another page and keeps doing it over and over again  ;)

What about cartoons? Which 80s animated productions did you love and miss?

For me, it has to be:

- Ducktales.
- Wuzzles.
- Alvin and the Chipmunks.
- Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers.
- Garfield and Friends.
- Gummi Bears.
- Inspector Gadget.
- Postman Pat.
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

DemWilliamsGulls: I remember 'American Tails' and 'The Little Mermaid' and 'The Land Before Time'. The songs for those films were great as well!

Btw, I remember watching 'IT'. Wasn't it about a killer who murdered teenagers while dressing up as a clown?

So anyone got any good 80s movies recommendations?

The one above starring Michael J. Fox was great, including the soundtrack (featuring Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves. Another recommendation is http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090863/]The Color of Money starring Paul Newman and and Tom Cruise. It also had a "Signature Song" Werewolves of London by the late, great Warren Zevon :worship: (in this film woven right into the script itself).

And rep points for my girl Amanda for reminding my dumb brain about Aliens  How can I forget Sigourney Weaver? She was awesome with Jennifer Love Hewitt in-a-movie-about-a-mother-and-daughter-con-team-combination-which-I-don't-remember-the-name-of, but she was equally great in Aliens as a one of those quiet-but-deep-down-psychotic gals :worship:

Ah, I haven't see or heard about that movie! ;)

Y'see, I started this thread because I really want to know if there are any great movies I had missed or never heard about from the 80s.

Also, who agrees that movies, T.V., music and just entertainment from the 80s in general were more innocent and touching (very cheesy word, but then again, that's what the decade was also known for) than the 90s or today?

I don't mind the early 90s, they were pretty close to the 80s. IMO, it was only when 1997 came along that a new (horrible) era was pushed forward :(

Flashdance starring the luscious Jennifer Beals  (and the powerful voice of Irene Cara, in her 2nd Major Movie gig after '79's Fame) was terrific. O/T, but while Those Two Title Tracks were Irene's really big hits, clearly her best song IMO was Out Here On My Own.

80's films are terrible. Films from 1947 through 1958 where I was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar five times, winning the last one, are the best ones. My favorites ones are "Smash Up: The Story of a Woman, My Foolish Heart, I'll Cry Tomorrow, With a Song in My Heart, and I Want to Live!

I agree with most of the replies here, especially my girl Amanda's picks of Die Hard, Heathers and Aliens. Still, I cannot believe no one here mentioned my two favorite 80's movies of all-time: The Money Pit and Real Genius. Tom Hanks is completely brilliant in this film and Real Genius is the funniest look at nerds that I have ever seen. Val Kilmer was completely hot in that movie.

Some Other Honorable Mentions:
Young Guns
Witness
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
When Harry Met Sally
My Science Project
War of the Roses
Tremors
The Thing
Time Bandits
To Live and Die in LA
Stakeout

Hmmm... There's nothing from the 90s that really 'sticks in my mind'. I can name lots of music from the 80s and other things from the 80s (I will have to consult this thread for help with films... ;) ) but nothing I really LOVE from the 90s... I don't know. I think I'm incredibly biased with the 80s here... ;)
