Acording to the Drudge Report, Cliniton was left off the speaker's list as was former president Jimmy Carter, both of whom are expected to attend Friday's funeral. Clinton is convinced that either Nancy Reagan or one of the Bushes left him off. He said that when he was the sitting president when former president Nixon died, he didn't play politics with the event, which wasn't a state funeral because Nixon resigned from office.

Why should he speak at Reagan's funeral? I doubt he was influenced by the man or his politics. He hardly had any interaction with the man. It would be different if he was sitting president, but he's not. It's what the Reagan family wants and they should have the last say, IMO.

why should bush pay for clinton to speak at raegan's funeral?

why should anyone speak at a funeral when the family of the deceased doesn't even want him to speak?

i don't get this...

I spoke at John Wayne's funeral and at Gregory Peck's funeral FOR FREE. It is the least an Oscar winner owes to another Oscar winner, if asked. But everyone knows I hate Neely, Jane Wyman, and I really despised Vivian Leigh, so I can understand why no one asked me to speak at Vivian Leigh's funeral and why I will not be asked to speak at Wyman's or at Neely's should I outlive them. I am not some belly-aching thin-skinned complainer like Bill Clinton. Get over it, Bill! If Bill bit the dust, you think Hillary would want Gerald Ford or either Bush to speak at his funeral? I didn't think so.

What's the shocker? Bush and company are POLITICS. It's unfortunate that Regan died, but the Bush family will use this to their advantage. The whole thing makes me sick, I just don't understand how someone can bring in politics when a death is concerned.

RIP Ronald Regan!!

What makes anyone think that Regan didn't influence Clinton even if it was how NOT to be? Also, Daddy Bush patented getting paid to make speeches after leaving office so spare me the Bill wants to get paid rant... I'm still waiting to hear what things daddy Bush is doing with his clout to make the world a better place. So what's the excuse about Jimmy Carter? What he's too materialistic as well? Maybe Jimmy is requiring them to volunteer their time with Habitat for Humanity and that is just not reasonable. :hehehe:

of course that is if it's true...;)

I HOPE Bill is not asking for a fee to speak at somebody's funeral. That is just too low, IMO. If I was the Reagan family I'd leave him off the list too.
But I'd like to think that Bill wouldn't do that.

I dont want that leech on my money. Not only do they (Republicans) want to put him on the $10 bill, they want to put him on the dime and put him on Mount Rushmore. If that is the case, then I will have to stop getting $10 bills, stop getting dimes and not visit Mount Rushmore.

He has no class, no dignity and, therefore, should not be allowed to speak.

Where does it say anywhere that Clinton wants money to speak at Reagan's funeral  . I know he doesn't bc if he did, the right wing media such as foxnews would eat him alive for doing so.

Nonetheless, I don't know what is proper etiquette for funerals of past presidents and whether or not the Reagan family is in the right or wrong here for not having Carter or Clinton speak

Actually, I don't think it is neccasary for former Presidents to speak. As a matter of courtesy, it is normally the sitting President that speaks for all Presidents.
