Right, a mini report on the matches on centre court today;

First match at 11am was O'Donoghue vs. Loit. From the first service game you knew it wasn't going to be Jane's day! God knows how many times the line judge shouted "FOOT FAULT" when she was serving, it was unbelieveable  - I think the line judges were picking on her, when they swopped over and some new line judges came on, she was OK ;) There were plenty of opportunities for both players to break each others serve, but not of the opportunities were taken until 4-4, when Loit managed to break Jane's serve and serve out the set. Pretty much them same and at 5-5, Loit again broke Jane's serve and then for the match. Loit really isn;t much good, from what I could tell from this match, and you couldn't tell such a huge difference in their rankings! Pity that Jane couldn't have at least won a set, oh well!

Next match was Magui Serna & Anne Kremer - a match which came onto court and was quite quick to get off it! A poor match which Kremer completely dominated, everything Serna did, Kremer had a simple answer and more often than not, won the point. Boring match, Kremer played well, Magui was crap!

After that came the Keothavong vs. Marrero match. I started watching this match at 3-0 in the first set for Anne, with Marrero serving - in what was an extremeley long game. This match was really about who could outhit who, in the first set it was Anne, and in the second set of this basline battle, Marta went out into a 5-1 lead, not easily, because all service games were pretty close, and then allowed Anne back into the set to 5-5. Unfortunately for Anne, Marta began to play a little better and broke Anne's serve and served out the set. In the 3rd set, play was just as close, and now even more exciting. Both players looked like they were going to go on and win after breaking their opponents serve, and it ended up going to a tiebreak. At this point the crowd were all cheering for Anne ;) and she managed to come through the tiebreak after each player struggled to win points on their serve. Marrero is an average player, so if Marta's average, Anne is better than average :D Well played Anne.
Forgot to add; Anne took a medical time out for an ankle injury, but seems to be playing just fine - maybe just as a precaution.

After this exciting match came the most abysmal and pathetic match of the day. So pathetic I really wanted to walk out - they didn't give me chance it was over so quickly  Stosur is rubbish! A really quick first serve, that hardly ever goes in, it either it's the net or goes long. When it does go in, it can cause the opponent problems, although I felt Elena handled it well, and could sometimes return it well, and not just return it. Sam serves (2nd serve), and runs to the net, hits a poor volley (9 times out of 10) and Elena just made an error, but, on occasions did smack the ball for a nice winner - just not often enough. Elena just played rubbish - and it was terrible to watch - she should NEVER lose to someone as poor as Stosur, but today it happened.

Meanwhile, on Court 4, during Anne's match i think it was, I could see that one of the players in the Penetta v Batoli match was injured (it was Bartoli I heard) and she was crowded by first aiders and ground staff for about 20 or so minutes. Apparently they didn't want to move her until the Paramedics arrived to take her to hospital - I heard she went for a shot, ended up doing the splits, and twisted, and thus injuring her hip - the reason for them not being able to move her.

Thanks for that. Sounds like Anne managed to hold her nerve well enough in a tight match. Encouraging.

Azza won't like your comments on Stosur, someone's in for a bad reppin' But yeah. That's pathetic play from Elena, she's missed a great opportunity.

Oh yeah. Did you realise your match report on Mel's quallie match was quoted on her website? Not as bad as you thought, hmm. :)

That's Patty's Husband. Rather than a drug dealer, he reminds of a greasy pimp. Same difference really. Nevermind, Patty's there and I'm hoping - please God - that she'll do well.

Thx for the reports by the way, it should be a fantastic week of tennis for you. :)

Were you by any chance in a Wolverhampton Wanderers away shirt today?

I saw Maleeva twice today, she was doing her best to fix the net on the practice court and was doing an interview for TV.

"she should NEVER lose to someone as poor as Stosur, but today it happened."

Umm..... HELLOOOO.... are u ignorant or something. Stosur is in the top 100, Baltacha is... i have no idea coz thats how crap she is. In the 400's or something isn't she. And Sam has beaten Martinez, Shaugnessy, Sprem, Serna...... who has Elena beaten???? If you think sam is a poor player you obviously didnt see any of her matches at the Gold Coast this year. Wanker

Might add to Petey Pan...she has beaten Talaja, had Sugiyama almost beaten, and Davenport in danger of losing at least a set. She also would have comfortably beaten Zuluaga in Hobart if not for an injury during the match. She may be inconsistent at times, but she plays a high risk game...only time and more matches will cure that.....anyone with half a brain can see she has huge talent.

if sam played as badly as u say she did, and still won 3 and 2, it says alot for sam and very little for baltacha :tape:

Wow...you guys are being really big assholes. At least Pdm had the decency to write a report and now you are all thrashing him because he stated his opinion.

It was just a really stupid comment to make.... implying that Balatcha should never have lost to Sam when Sam has had much better results and is higher ranked etc..... if I said something like Molik should never have lost to Myskina at the French I would expect a backlash aswell. It was just a very biased and ridiculous thing to say. Sam Stosur is not a nobody or someone with no talent like he implied, I think if you give reports they shouldn't be biased and to give respect to the better player on the day.

Baltacha's only ranked that low because she had liver damage and had to miss 6 months after Wimbledon last year! She's definitely top 100 potential also!
