Late Saturday afternoon, Jennifer Lopez, 34, stunned the showbiz world by marrying singer Marc Anthony, 35, in a casual ceremony at her Beverly Hills home, witnesses and friends told PEOPLE.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing Lopez in a wedding gown. A tent was erected earlier in the day, the property was bedecked with balloons and musicians could be heard playing Vivaldi's " Four Seasons," a wedding favorite, during the afternoon.

The marriage, Lopez's third, comes just months after her whirlwind 18-month relationship with Ben Affleck, which included a postponed September 2003 wedding, a box-office disaster and a break-up and a make-up, finally went belly up in January. She had yet to even publicly acknowledge a romance with Anthony, an old flame whose own marriage to Dayanara Torres did not end until they were granted a divorce in the Dominican Republic last Monday.

Lopez's family were in town from New York. A source said that Lopez had invited everyone to her house for a beautiful afternoon party, but none of them knew she planned on getting married. It was a surprise, said the source.

At 6:22 p.m., the bride walked across the backyard with a white umbrella while the guests clapped and cheered. She wore Neil Lane jewelry from head to toe, including a necklace and bracelet.

At around 7 p.m., big band music began after guests went into a white tent.

Lopez's mom, Guadalupe, was in attendance and embraced new son-in-law Anthony for a long time after the ceremony.

"She looked beautiful," said a source.

Rumors of a wedding had circulated since mid-week, and PEOPLE reported that despite Lopez's reluctance to go public with her romance to Anthony, the pair were in love and had consulted with a wedding planner to figure out how to tie the knot.

Lopez and Anthony, who share a love of the stage as well as a Puerto Rican heritage, dated in April 1999. A few months later she hooked up with Sean " Puffy" Combs. Their relationship lasted until 2001. Three months later, she was engaged to Cris Judd, one of her backup dancers. They wed in September 2001. By the following June, that marriage had floundered and Lopez was keeping company with Affleck, whom she met on the set of Gigli, which subsequently bombed when it was released last year.

Lopez's first marriage was to Ojani Noa. The pair split in 1998.

For his port, Affleck has struck up new romance with a woman in Boston, where he has been spending much of the past two weeks. He was scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles this weekend.

In May 2000, Anthony married beauty queen Dayanara Torres in Las Vegas. Anthony and Torres split in July 2002, renewed their vows a few months later, and then split for good in October 2003. They agreed to a divorce in the Dominican Republic on June 1.

I hope this marriage lasts.

I kind of feel sorry for serial monogomists like J-Lo. They must feel that shit about themselves that they feel the need to tie somebody to them to "love" and take care of them. They'll divorce. I'll give it 12 months max. And a couple of years later she'll marry again. She'll end up on a par with Liz Taylor no doubt.

At least this one is in her field of business, not a waiter or back-up dancer.

My first husband was in my business and it just did not work. My second husband was not in my business and we could not have been happier, until of course he died, but we were happy together until then. The winning combination is someone as wealthy or more wealthier than yourself, but not in the same field. J-Lo is halfway there.

Poor dear, in her early 30's and already a two-time loser. Elizabeth Taylor was gorgeous enough to get away with this marriage non-sense, but J-Lo is NO Elizabeth Taylor.

He want's her to pay his lawyer's fee's, etc. J ho better be careful, and not make the same mistake again. I know Chris Judd got some millions from her, and now Marc Anthony might take her to the cleaners considering he has to pay alot of money to his ex and his child.

i really never could understand the hatred for lopez. how is it that so many people who have never met her can actually have an opinion about her personal life at all? i mean an opinion about her singing is one thing. we all know that sucks. but her personal life? that boggles the mind! if the girl wants to get married a hundred times, pays for it herself and asks noone else to pay her bills....who cares? i think that most women who hate on wealthy, independent and good looking women are haters. plain and simple. they only wish they had the ability to do half the things she can.

i can't help but admire someone who does it her way...all the way.
:worship: Good point, Bri!

By the way, did anyone see J-Lo on "Will and Grace?" I didn't see the episode, but caught a promo that featured her saying this line: "The secret to a good marriage is...oh, who am I kidding?" So at least Lopez has a sense of humor about herself ;)

And everytime I've seen her on TV and read her interviews, she's always struck me as a nice (and slightly overworked) person. Maybe her head is in the clouds a little bit, but there's something genuine about that...think about how many other famous people are so calculated when it comes to their public image and how they appear to the media.

Sorry Deuce, but IMO I really don't respect people who marry at the drop of a ring. Maybe I grew up differently but where I come from you don't treat marriage like you are going to the toilet. So, call me a hater in that regards.:D
I really do feel that marriage is a commitment and you should know EVERYTHING about the person when you take those vows. That's my opinion regardless if it's Jlo or Judy I think people in this country should stop disrespecting the institution of marriage. If you don't want to get married and stay with your partner then don't do it at all.

When I think of wealthy, independent good looking women I think of Nicole Kidmans, Renee Zellwegers, Charlize Therons, Norah Jones, Pink. Women who are unique, talented and really take their careers on a defined path rather than been a celeb for the sake of celeb. Those women don't attract attention like J-Lo. They attract attention by winning Oscars, winning Grammies and revolutionizing their arts. I admire them, not people like J-Lo and Beyonce.

Judd: 'I wish her and Marc the best'

Jennifer Lopez
NEW YORK (AP) -- Sean Combs, the self-proclaimed "bad boy for life," says Jennifer Lopez is his "girl for life," even after her surprise weekend wedding to Marc Anthony.

The hip-hop mogul, who had a high-profile, two-year relationship with Lopez, said he's glad his ex has found love with someone new, but added that she'll always be important to him.

Lopez and Anthony reportedly tied the knot Saturday in a small ceremony at her Beverly Hills home. Anthony's publicist would not comment Monday. Lopez's spokesperson didn't immediately return a call Monday, but told The Associated Press on Sunday that he had no comment.

"If she's in love with somebody and that makes her happy, I'm happy for her," Combs tells "Access Hollywood" in an interview airing Monday night. "That's my girl for life."

But dancer Cris Judd, Lopez's second husband, said he was surprised to learn that she'd married Anthony, the Latin singer she first dated in 1999.

"She did?" Judd asked, then added, "You know what? I wish her and Marc the best and hey, if it's true to her heart then by all means."

Judd then turned to the syndicated entertainment show's cameras and sent the newlyweds a message: "Jen, Marc, I wish you the best, and happiness, definitely."

And the man who could have been husband No. 3, Ben Affleck, gave the union "two thumbs up," according to US Weekly.

This is the third marriage for the 34-year-old Lopez -- the first was to waiter Ojani Noa in 1997, the second to Judd in 2001. Noa lasted a little more than a year; Judd for nine months.

The singer-actress also was engaged to Affleck, her "Gigli" co-star, but amid a huge media frenzy they canceled their plans in September 2003 and broke up in January.

Anthony, 34, just divorced former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres last week in the Dominican Republic. They married in 2000 and have two young sons; Anthony also has a daughter from a previous relationship.

Anthony is scheduled to appear on NBC's "Today" show and ABC's "The View" on Tuesday to promote his new album, "Amar Sin Mentiras," which means "To Love Without Lies" in Spanish.

oh i completely agree with you, harloo. i believe that marriage is a commitment as well. one to be taken solemnly and with much contemplation. however....that is my opinion for my life. it's none of my business what someone else's interpretation of marriage is, you know? all power to them!

plus let's not fool ourselves. the statistics state that more often than not, people don't stay married. it would be ideal if they did. but since they don't...it's sort of hypocritical to think that most people in america are going to respect the institution of marriage in the same way that you or i would. this said...it's all a personal decision how many times one gets married. life is short enough as it is. if that's what makes some happy? cool.
I am not judgemental of people and I do understand that sometimes things do not work out, but today people marry because it's the right thing to do. It's become so fashionable to get married and then bail out after you find out something you don't like about your partner.

This is gonna sound bad but I feel that everyone who gets a divorce should have to wait a year after their divorce is final before they can get married again. To be honest with you I think it's pressure from the women that causes men to say I will marry you when they know damn well they don't want to get married. It would be nice if couples communicated better, and for women to accept that when a man's not ready, he's not ready.

Ok, I think I'm going off on a tangent. Alright ladies eat me alive for the comments above.

bri, while its true that none of us know jennifer personally, I think people are speaking on the 'public' Jennifer that she puts out there. While no one should judge her for her life choices, i think its fair to speak on it when she comes out shoving her love for Ben down people's throats- talking about this is it, blah, and then the min she breaks up with him, she's in the arms of another love of her life- true lots of people do it not in the public eye but i don't think anyone here is 'hatin' on her for what she has made of her life, other than making a joke of marriage.
Damn this thing messed up and I lost my whole post and I typed a lot. :fiery:

basically I agree with you Celebs out there are selling their wedding photo's their engagement stories and no J.Lo didn't do that this time but she couldn't because how do you go from wanting to get married in oct/Nov to breaking up in January to marrying someone else 5 months later? Marrying a man that sold his marriage renewal ceremony to a show less than two years earlier where he cried like a baby as his wife walks down the aisle but runs to the domincan republic to get a quicky divorce. Yeah I would trust either one of their's love...:lol:

Also, Jennifer sells their personal life/image to sell her clothes, perfume, etc...she is all about cultivating an image.

Also, why is there always some major project release happening when they decide to do these things? He has a major album coming out next week and he had to get married right before it? They have a project coming out together...What a surprise?

You guys are all hinting around the most obvious reason for all the J-lo bashing, especially from the hispanic people. J-lo like all minorities, when they make it big, they are now a representative of their race, ethnicity etc. A couple of years ago at the height of the latin pop movement their were great strides made in acceptance in the public eyes. Now with J-lo spreading her cuchie all over hollywood, the typical latina stereotypes pop up and you start hearing about the loose latina women who only want to get married and have 10 children. That couple with the fact that J-lo like most latinos is Catholic, and as such marriage is one of the most important sacriments of the Catholic church. Many feel she is making a mockery of her faith and of her heritage.

Being married three time is NOTHING in Hollywood. I have been divorced once, widowed once, Neely has been divorced once and has an "open" meaningless and sexless marriage with a well-known homosexual, Ted Casablanca.

J. Lo's marriages last only a few months, that is what sets her apart. At least Elizabeth Taylor stays married for several years.

Well, whoever said that is misinformed. Elizabeth Taylor's marriages lasted many years each. She did not marry waiters and back-up singers, though she had that unfortunate incident with the truck driver Larry Fortensky whom she met in rehab. I have to give Neely some credit, she has spent half her life in rehab but never married anyone in rehab. Taylor mainly stuck to playboys, millionaires, actors, and U.S. Senators. Miss Lo is not in that league.

Damn, Ben must be sterile....

and Puffy must of learned his lesson after the last time because why would she get preggers now? Oh nevermind I know.....tick tock tick tock...:tape:

Not saying its true of course...
I hope she is preganant because there is no reason whatsoever for her to marry a man a few months after dumping her fiance.

i think they were just comparing how glamorious J-Lo is and how glamorious Liz was at her prime and the fact they have married multiple times. Personally, Liz was probably a ho just like J-Lo may be. lol

Please:rolleyes:

As much as I don't care for what Liz did to Debbie Reynolds, she at least is a talented actress (2 Oscars, Golden Globes) and mananged to start familes with three of the men she married (I believe she had three chidlren by the time she was 30) and put her family before her career. The same can't be said for the nut case called J-Lo.

One Oscar is more than sufficient to prove one's acting abilities. If I had had a trachectomy in the early 50's, I'd have two Oscars also! I never made a movie as terrible as Butterfield 8 in my whole career! Plus, I beat Elizabeth out one year, beat her GOOD! I think she was so crushed when she lost to me that it drove her into Eddie Fisher's arms. She saw greatness and knew she could never compare.

One thing you can not deny is that she was still a better looking actress than you.!!!!

Honey, I can deny anything. Sure, if you go with large breats, violet eyes, impeccible skin and her "type" then I guess she is better looking. She would look bad as redhead like me, though. It takes true beauty to be a redhead.

With any luck, she will get an asp and end it all to spare us all.
Oh Helen, don't insult Cleopatra like that.

Helen Lawson I sense a bit of bitterness when you discuss Liz Taylor. Did she take your spotlight? :D ;)

I was 10X the actress she was. When we both gave the performances of our careers, I won the Oscar, NOT her! As far as beauty queens turned actresses go, though, she was pretty good. I have respect for her, but my best was better than her best.

J-Lo ain't in Liz's league. Liz's motto is - Adore your husband..........and get as much as you can in your own name!

J. Lo is a terrible actress who has nothing going for her but a big ass and hype. The only thing believable about "Maid in Manhattan" was J. Lo as a common scrub woman.

Yal are hating on the girl. She is an extremely beautiful woman and a good shape. Her singing is pretty good, acting not too good.

The woman is a pro! The construction worker only got $3 million, after having to be married to her for 5 years. It is already gone and he is back to construction working.
