2 films I have recently seen that have been brilliant:
Disco Pigs - starring Elaine Cassidy and Cillian Murphy.
Felicia's Journey - starring Bob Hoskins and Elaine Cassidy.

Both are brilliant films.
Disco Pigs is about these 2 teens who grow up together, do everything together and for all intents and purposes ARE the same person, until Pig (Murphy) starts fancying Runt (Cassidy).
Runt then starts to break away from this duo and Pig goes off the rails.

Felicia's Journey is about a young Irish girl Felicia (Cassidy), who gets pregnant and is thrown out by her family, so she comes to England to try and find her unborn baby's father. But suprise suprise, he isn't where he's supposed to be, and she bumps into Bob Hoskins who she thinks is a kindly old man, but you slowly realise that he's not quite right.

You have to watch the films though.
The acting is great (Elaine Cassidy is my new favourite actress), and Bob Hoskins gives a great performance - I didn't thing he could act until I saw Felicia's Journey.

They're both available on DVD, but I have seen them both in the TV listings in the last few months.
Beg, steal, or borrow a copy (or failing that, just by one), and you won't be disappointed - if you like films that are about people lives - no explosions in these films.

Another hidden screen gem is "Heaven's Prisoners" with Alec Baldwin. Not quite as good as the book, but a great watch. It's from 1996.

Requiem for a Dream - Not a miraculous movie, but it has interesting uniqueness in character development
