After promising LIVE coverage, and even coming on the air at 8AM in the East, ESPN chooses NOT to show live matches, but instead shows taped matches and even out of sequence!
The Serena/Capriati match which was first on was ignored and promoted as though it was going to be live at 3PM, even though Mary Joe and that Cliff KNEW it wouldnt be live.
Not to mention the 3pm telecasts were NOT on the schedule!
Now ESPN has the early round rights to Wimbledon!!!!!!!!
What are the odds of us seeing ANYTHING live?
Take me back to the days of HBO's classy L I V E coverage!
Is there nothing that can be done about the existing cotract with ESPN?
They are killing the sport on TV.
Absoluetly NO ONE at the WTA or ATP are concerned with this debacle?
Isn't the promotion of the Sport the ultimate goal?
Can't this contract b ere-visited?
I'm SO DAMN PEEVED!
WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ESPN is truly horrible. I'm wondering whether they will show the women's semis live tomorrow, or show a replay of the Serena/Jennifer quarter again. I couldn't believe them showing that match this morning when they could have been showing the Nalbandian/Guga match live. Even if you need filler, place the filler at a point in time when you can't show any live tennis.

I think the primary reason for doing tape delay is that they are able to stretch out the break time for changeovers and stick in more commercials.

it's suarez and dementieva. it would take too much effort for them to teach fowler how to pronounce their names. we'll be watching serena vs. kirilenko and then jen vs. serena and maybe myskina vs. venus if we're lucky. and, who know, roddick vs. martin was a classic...

Please forgive the people at ESPN; they're doing this for your own good, you know. This is just a typical lesson in the Who's Who of American Tennis and since there are no men they'll choke you on the women. To make your viewing even more exciting Venus and Serena lost so everyone's happy all around.

Please, somebody, tell me how many times they've shown the Sharapova/Suarez match.

It's not just ESPN... it's been all tennis coverage in the US, forever.

We've been trained not to give a damn about foreign players... and the common fan has known that for ages.

I guess this is only me... but what fucking difference does it make what country the players are from? How does it make you care any more about the tennis player you are watching?

i believe HBO had pretty decent coverage . however, it didnt reach a lot of homes . and i remember many people bitching that they would get hbo only for the summer cos of tennis . of course, they are tasteless americans that didnt understand that hbo is the only quality station out there

but yeah . on a whole, youre right
