View Full Version : I'm not the biggest fan of Amelie....

In fact I can take her or leave her. But I must say that she is the one who my heart goes out to the most this year.

Having her win RG would have been the greatest thing (except for having Venus win of course). But so far her head just can't handle the pressure. Too bad.

Reminds you a bit of Hingis. Its all coming together, the major opposition has gone and suddenly you find Majoli or Capriati playing out of their skins and you lose what is yours. add the french dimension and this is going to need some recovery.

I think she needs to win this for HER-SELF rather than HER COUNTRY. She puts too much pressure on HER-SELF to win for her country rather than HERSELF.

I admit I felt for Amelie today. She had a lot of pressure on herself and pressure put on her. I don't envy players like Amelie and Tim. It's a horrible place to be and she was so close.

The French crowd were interesting. You could feel them trying to yank her through in the second set, doing everything they could (including booing Alyona, which they really shouldn't have done) and instead of helping her, they just made things worse. You can't help wondering if that expression on her face at the end was because she felt she let herself down or let down the French.

She really is turning out to be the new "Jana Novotna". Heartbreak again
at the one grand slam she should've, and could've won. :(

Dementieva seems to hit the ball harder than Amelie...
Amelie just seems lost.. for somebody who had reached the finals of a grandslam.. She seems so nervous and to think it was just the quarterfinals...
About her being the new Novatna.. well.. at least Jana reaches the finals first before choking... :) :) :)

I'm not an Amelie fan, but I really felt sorry for her when she admitted during her press conference that the pressure got to her. She was looking quite sad.

My sentiments exactly, although I must confess that her loss soften how I felt about Vee's. :o I mean these 2 had the best claycourt record leading into the graveyard called Roland Garros :fiery: Oh Well, I'm sure they will both do better next year :p

her matches at roland garros remind of like when she panics the minute something doesnt go perfctly. its like when she misses a first serve she thinks dont double fault then what does she do. Like she loses a set or is a down a break to a player like Demented who she has a great record against and shes like why is this happening, why am i losing here, why cant it be like everywhere else why is it here. Like she seems to panic when things dont go well, and she stops being aggressive, hence all the attackable short moon balls and errors. and soft serves and lack of first serves!

She really does panic and look lost out there though and i love her so much too, i had a dream she won RG the other day and all of fracne went nuts. she paraded down champs-elysees and everything, it was so great! I think she has a legitimate shot at Wimbly though!

I hope she bounces back from this quickly. It's the sort of thing that could play on someone's mind. Good luck at Wimby, Momo!!

I hope she bounces back from this quickly. It's the sort of thing that could play on someone's mind. Good luck at Wimby, Momo!!This translated from an article on French Yahoo:

In spite of immense disappointment, Amélie Mauresmo appeared less shattered than at the time of the defeat in 2001 by Jana Kandarr or even last year after the shock of her defeat in the quarterfinals against Serena Williams. "It is necessary to relativize", she entrusted. "Lately, I lived things much more difficult (note: the death of her father, in mid-March), that will enable me to rebound."

I'm glad she's being a lot more philosophical this year. She mentioned she may play Eastbourne - I certainly hope she does. Just needs to get right back on the horse :)
