"It was really hard to make it to where I am now. I had to work a lot because I'm not a naturally talented player. I owe this to hard work."

Interesting take on it. Suarez is playing some excellent stuff in this tournament and she deserves everything she gets. She absolutely deserves to be there because she has worked and improved every year of her career.

Congratulations Paola Suarez, the clay court queen. :)

Another thing I loved is that when asked who she wants to play in the SF, she actually chose someone! She told ESPN she would rather play Amelie because she beat her on Chatrier in 2002 and has a good memory of that. I guess she figured she could do it again. Amelie lost, of course, but it was still cool to see a player actually name who they'd rather play.

You know...

I really want her to win this tournament.

Over Jen...

She is just... great. I love her and I've always admired her and thought she was such a sweet lady but she wasn't a fave of mine. Now, she's somehow weasled herself into my heart. :hearts:

 VAMOS PAOLA. ¡TENGO FE EN TU!

I know what you mean rokkstar. I just didn't know much about her until I watched her play.

She seems to be genuinly nice and kind which you can't say for a lot of the petulant tennis players that are around. I am rooting for her in this tournament :yeah:

No, I've always liked her since I saw her at charleston 2002....She's very pretty.

I don't think her quote is humble but an honest assestment of her physical attributes. She doesn't think she's as physically gifted as some but that she works harder than most. That's probably a factual statement.

she's such a darling! i remeber when she played fernendez in 02, clarisa hit a servei n on set point(TB) but it was called out. paola said it was in and lost the set. she lost the match, but sportsmanship at its best. paola!:hearts:

and she's being honest without hurting anyone too!

I've been a fan of Paola since I saw her in Toronto last year. When a fan approached her for an autograph and some pictures, the security staff tried to push the fan away but she said that it's alright and she signed autographs. What a nice woman. :)

I think Suarez is just telling it like it is. Obviously, she's not as 'naturally talented' as Martina, Anna or Amelie. And I respect her even more because she worked hard for her tennis skill right now.;) And it paid off. Congrats!

Paola so deserves to win. She really is one of the hardest working players out there and one of the nicest too. And she has FUN on court. I really hope she wins!

From todays interview:

"Well, winning a Grand Slam tournament, I'd love that, of course. But these are dreams. Sometimes not everybody can actually see those dreams come true. But I shall continue to strive for that."

So very down-to-earth. :D

I wanted Dementieva to win, but I felt so bad for Suarez. She was really heartbroken, during the short interview :sobbing:

Yeah, I really felt for her out there today. Getting to the SF, playing your best and losing is one thing, but getting there and being so nervous you can't play at all is another. Still, she sounds very level headed and down-to-earth, so I'm sure she'll get over it soon enough and take the many positive aspects from the tournament.
