Guys, I saw the end of the match and Vika is injured! She hurt her knee badly on the last serve. I saw her after and she had walking sticks. Does not look good at all, sorry for the bad news...

No, no, Victoria was healthy during 99% of the match ... She injured her knee serving at 26 62 65 15/40 :eek::o.

Yes, she got injured on the last serve, a double fault. She did MRI but could not hear the result of it. she could not walk on her leg.

Still a definate chance of happening. One month isn't too bad. Knee injuries can be pretty serious and to escape with a month is good. Big points to be made at RG etc coming up.

According to her official website, Vika is "currently recovering from a minor surgery on her knee and is hopeful for a return at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami".

I didn't know about the surgery. Even though she has some points to defend in Miami and I very much miss her presence on the tour, I hope she'll wait until the knee is fully recovered before making her comeback.

It's such a frustrating loss :sad: :sad: Poor Vika :( I didn't see the match but don't think she was injured,I think she was disappointed/mad for blowing such a huge lead and a MP at 5/3 and wasn't herself in the third set :sad:. In any case, I'm afraid this loss will haunt Vika for some time :(

Was cruising towards victory, had a MP at 5-3 in the 2nd, and then everything fell to pieces. Almost got there, but "almost" is not quite enough. :sad:

This has to be one of the most disappointing losses of her career. I really do hope she can get over it and keep in mind the positive aspects instead of the fact that she choked her lead and tanked in the 3rd, but that's easier said than done.

I must say thats actually a very good result for Vika. I thought she may crumble after being down a set and 5-5 in the second, when your in that sort of position its incredible difficult to win! (Speaking a bit from personal experience, I lost probably 90% of matches in that situation!!!)

As I said on the previous page Vika showed alot of mental strength to comeback from a set down and 5-5 to win the match, so beating Dominika certainly isnt out of the question!

I think Eggy raised a valid point in another thread when he mentioned Vika is just simply struggling for rhythm/confidence since the return from injury. Its just going to take some time for that to return.
Disappointing to lose today ofcourse, but she can only learn from the experience.

Cibulkova never gives up, so I knew the 1st set wasn't over even at 4-0. Still disappointing, though. :sad:
Vika was broken 8 times for the 2nd match in a row. :( That, along with the blown leads, certainly points toward a lack of confidence. Let's hope she can find her groove back sooner than later.

Azarenka, with her style of play, is bound to get more frustrated on clay. But from what I saw of her matches this week, she badly needs to get her emotions in check. The frequent acting out reminded me of the way Zvonareva used to be. I`m sure this isn`t helping her. Once that is taken care of she can challenge for the top as she has a lot of game.

Had lots of BP opportunities today, and I suspect she'll also get a lot against Anna tomorrow. :o

Anna and Vika have met twice before. Anna leads the H2H 2-0, but has been struggling so far in 2008.
Anna has only played one match on red clay this year, beating Vania King in straight sets in Fed Cup, but it was a pretty hard-fought win against a lesser opponent. If they were meeting in a final my money would probably still be on Anna, but since this is a 2nd-round match I won't be surprised if Vika pulls this one off.

According to her website, she "suffered a left hamstring injury" during her last doubles match in Berlin (played on Saturday, only a couple hours after her loss to Safina in singles). She hasn't had much time to recuperate, but I suppose she knows what she's doing. At least she's not playing doubles this week.

Methinks Vika could reach the top 10 sooner than later, as long as she stays healthy.

She indeed looked very nice in the short "Superheroes" promotional video. Generally speaking, I tend to prefer women au naturel, but it's interesting to see her under a different light. She seems to have enjoyed doing it quite a bit. She hasn't done a lot of modeling so far, unlike some other players who are probably getting a bit jaded by now. :lol: I'm glad they decided to include many of the young up-and-comers in the campaign instead of limiting themselves to the more established glamour girls.
