Nicole VAIDISOVA (CZE) def. Vika AZARENKA (BLR) 6-3 6-3

Nikki had like 23 more winners, and 2 less errors than Vika. So sounds like Vika played pretty bad. :o

Still a great tournament anyway. Now she's got to build on this, and not have another crappy clay court season.

I wish it would've been on a bigger court, so it could've been televised. :(

Hey all.

I've been in Miami, and I saw all three of Vika's matches.

She played so good the first two rounds.

She wasn't very aggressive at all vs. Nicole and it didn't work, because she got hit off the court, but she played good the whole tournament.

I got her autograph too.

Did she or Nikki have any outbursts or anything?

I'm not sure what Vika's strategy was vs. Nicole, but whatever it was it didn't work. :o

Vika plays in AI!! First up is Romina Oprandi, followed by either Stosur or qualifier. Should have a good chance to reach QF at least if she keeps her cool and blasts her opponents off court :)

Belarus :yeah:

Another good showing from young Kseniya. :hearts:

Don't Belarus just have to beat the Ukraine to advance? It'll mean that BLR will be 3-0, while UKR will be 2-1.

I wouldn't mind seeing Kseniya play singles again. Yakimova never plays well in Fed Cup, and, well, we all saw Poutchek's singles effort. :tape:

oh yea, Blr just has to beat Ukr. I was thinking it might have been number of matches won, which Blr is one behind Ukr currently. But yea, if Blr beats Ukr, then Blr won all 3 of her ties in the group. my bad.

A bagel against Lucie! The way Vika has been steamrolling Schiavone, Dulko and now Safarova is amazing. Arn has also been playing some of the best tennis of her career, but she had to go through 3 rounds of qualies and is not used to playing so many matches in a row. She's probably not going to be as fresh. I think Vika has a great chance to win her first WTA title! :hearts:  :bounce:

The 1st set against Lucie was actually more impressive i thought, in the 2nd Lucie sort of Capitualted but in the 1st Vika was hitting immensely deep and hard and in the long rallies is was her who was the more consistent. Her serve has gotten bigger too i think

Copy pasting what I said on GM:

It was more emotional than well-played. I've seen both of them playing so much better. It could have gone either way.

Both players crying in the end of the match, one of out happiness the other out of sadness.

Arn saved 2 MPs at 5-4* on the third.

She had a great week...

d. Razzano 7-6(14) 7-5
d. Schiavone 6-2 6-2
d. Dulko 6-1 6-2
d. Safarova 6-4 6-0

I mean those are all solid wins.

:crying2: :sobbing: Such a heart-breaking loss after coming back from 2 breaks down in the 3rd and having 2 match points. But Vika had an amazing week, surpassing every expectation. I hope she'll focus on the positives and learn from the experience. Not a lot of time to recuperate before Prague, though. That said, it's nice to see someone like Greta win her first title at 28. She seems to be a likeable person and has had her share of setbacks over the years. Vika will have many more opportunities, no doubt.

I guess she had impress me enough for me to be a fan. She has an exciting game style and looks determined to be a top player. So what else is there to say but Go Vika!!! :D

From Vika's WTA blog (11 May):

The wind today was just unbelievable. It was crazy! I've never seen something like that. It was tough to play in those conditions, but I still managed to win my quarterfinal against Cibulkova. I tried to be calm the whole match and be smart, and I did pretty well. She freaked out a few times because of the weather, and I don't think she played her best.
I'm trying to form a mental picture of Vika staying calm while her opponent is freaking out. Sounds like our girl is getting more mature ;)

My favorite player when I was a kid - my idol - was Steffi Graf. I actually met her once, at an exhibition. Actually, I played her! It was a doubles match; I was playing with Mike Bryan and she played with Andre Agassi. I was so nervous. There were so many people watching. I was even more nervous warming up across from Agassi. I framed every other ball because my hands were shaking so much! For the first four games I had no idea what I was doing. I was okay after that, but we lost, 6-4. It was in Boise in 2005. It was one of my best memories, just unbelievable. I almost cried when I saw Graf and Agassi come out.
Steffi was my fave too :worship:

My Web site should be ready by the end of the month and I'm thinking I will have something like this there. They just need to get the Web address; someone already bought the name we want but they haven't done anything with it, so hopefully we can get it soon!
