It's time to step it up. She needs to forget about what's happened before now. She needs to focus on having a good hardcourt season. Vamos Vika! :yeah:

What's up next for Vika? Pls, whatever you play Vika, pls do well on the hard courts & close out matches when you should!

I havent seen her name on any of the entry lists for any of the near upcomming tournaments :( .
I think she's still in the WTT, will check the dates for that later on.

Yea, She's taking too long a break if you ask me. No doubt she is restricted by the number of tournaments she can play but she needs the match practice since her biggest problem is closing out matches!

waratahsrock
Aug 14th, 2006, 02:58 AM
Indeed it is risky going so long without match play. Chances are she's only gonna get 1 warm up event at best, and if recent tournaments are anything to go by, that could jus be a one round and then out again :(

Headcase vs Headcase, believe it or not I think this is actually a good draw for Viktoria. She could capitalize from some Nastya brain-fade and then get confidence from there.

I saw both of Vika's USO matches, and she looked amazing. Simply on fire with all aspects of her game. Not only is she serving well and hitting amazing groundstrokes on both sides, but her movement was great also. Really getting to everything and putting it back in play with good pace and depth. I'm really happy to see her putting it all together. Couldn't have happened at a better time either than a grand slam!

A little article about Vika's win over Camerin from www.uztennis.uz:

06.10.2006

DAY 5 REPORT FROM TASHKENT OPEN

TOP SEED CAMERIN BLOWN AWAY BY AZARENKA

Top seed Maria Elena Camerin of Italy was blown off the court by 17-year-old Victoria Azarenka in the Tashkent Open today. Azarenka, serving strongly and pounding away relentlessly with her groundstrokes, won the quarter-final match 6-0, 6-1 in just 55 minutes.

.....

In the semi-finals tomorrow, Azarenka plays Sun and Poutchkova takes on Tulyaganova.

Azarenka didn’t put a foot wrong in her match against Camerin. “I had a perfect game,” she said later. “She played unbelievable,” said Camerin.

She won the first set in 21 minutes and continued in the same vein in the second, going up 4-0 in no time.

Camerin finally stopped the runaway express, holding serve in the fifth game, and showed her relief by holding aloft her shoulders in mock triumph, much to the delight of the crowd.

Azarenka’s temperament was tested in the next game, as Camerin forced three breakpoints. But she held and then broke Camerin again, to win the match, the Italian double-faulting at matchpoint.

“After she held serve (at 4-0 in the second set), she got confident, so I had to be ready to stay there,” said Azarenka. Camerin , too, felt that had she made it 4-2 she could have come back into the match but it was not to be.

Why did she withdraw? maybe she felt she could better at other tournaments as she has limited number of tournaments she can play? Anyway, apparently Vika has a 4-1 lead in first set & blew it, just hope she dosnt go back to her old-self-destruct mode of playing. Come on Vika, you should be in top 50 by now!!

Good tournament? Meh. I guess, compared with the rest of her season.

But Vika should really be winning these by now - she's only three months younger than Vaidisova, and heavy hitters don't tend to be late bloomers.

Nov 5th, 2006, 11:14 PM
I expected so much more of Vika this year. :(

After winning 2 slams and being #1 in juniors I thought she'd do well on the WTA Tour.

But she will finish the season out of the top 100 and that's very disappointing to me.

I expected her to be in the top 50.

She started off well in Auckland beating Frazier, getting a set off Kirilenko, and then beating Vaidisova.

Miami was ok too, making the 3R with a win over Jankovic.

Other than 4 or so tournaments, it was quite disappointing. :bigcry:

i saw vika play in the ladies singles at wimbledon against agnieska radwanska and she was very impressive. she hits the ball incredibly hard and is very intense. i agree that she is destined to be top 20 at least but if she is going to do that she needs to work on her tactics and volleying. if hitting the ball hard isnt working she has no back up plan and she can't volley to save her life. if radwanska wanted a cheap point all she had to do was hit it short, vika would hit, usually, a very good approach but would then get passed. its not a criticism just of vika, a lot of the junior girls coming up have no clue when they are at the net.
but, yeah, great player, destined for great things.

Playing juniors doesn't mean anything about that. There's rules on WTA that players below certain ages can't play more than X tournaments, but yes, I'm not sure but Vika will probably be able to play more tournaments next year because she's older.

Well, that's just not fair, but what can you do? Shvedova might be tough because she has a lot of talent, just not much consistency. Gagliardi beat Morigami, so that would be who Vika has beat in her 2nd round.
