Well played Vika. Its unfortunate it ended the way it did but she was in control of the match. I was impressed how good her game looks on grass and her serve in particular has become more of a weapon on this surface. She tends to get a good percentage of 1st serves in too so it'l take something special to beat her as long as she can keep her head together.

Keep it up :)

When she first came in, it was after a men's retirement after falling so they talked a little about Severine and how Vika had fallen once today.
Then they showed highlights of the match and they asked her how she was feeling about the match beforehand.
At this point in the interview, Vika was very shy and just giggling.
They then talked about how she is third in the betting odds(Vika didn't know and was surprised and thanked people for thinking of her that highly), her self confidence and self control and how she is working on it, how she is feeling for the rest of the tournament and then shopping in London.

Again, it was a very nice interview. :)

Wimbledon - Azarenka wants fan respect for grunters

Eurosport - Wed, 24 Jun 19:05:00 2009

Wimbledon eighth seed Victoria Azarenka has told Wimbledon fans to respect the sport's grunting girls who, she claims, make up three-quarters of the women's tour.

Belarussian Azarenka was the latest woman to disturb the genteel surroundings of the All England Club with her high-pitch screeching during her 6-0 6-0 second round victory over Romania's Ioana Raluca Olaru.

The 19-year-old had already come in for criticism for making a racket during the French Open and her screaming reached such a level on Wimbledon's new Court Two that fans responded by imitating the noise during rallies.

The teenager claims grunting is just the sign of a determined player and demanded that fans lay off her and the likes of Maria Sharapova and Portuguese teenager Michele Larcher de Brito, who infuriated the French Open crowd so much with her wailing that she was booed off court.

"They did it at the beginning for one or two points, but then they stopped doing it which I really appreciated. I guess the grunting has become much more exciting after the Larcher de Brito issue so people get into that," Arazenka said.

"I just keep playing. People will do whatever they want. I just hope they can respect all the players who grunt, which is 70 percent of the whole tour.

"I have been doing it since I was 10 years old because I wasn't really strong and that would help me to accelerate more and put more power on the ball. I cannot change it, it helps me to play.

"Some people said players who do grunt can play without grunting. For me I cannot do that. If people do it on purpose or not, it is none of my business. I only care about myself."

Arazenka faces 28th seed Sorana Cirstea in the third round and, with Sharapova knocked out of her half of the draw, the Belarussian has a golden chance to go deep into the tournament.

"I guess I have a good chance now but I don't feel any pressure," she said. "It is always important to go step by step. There are still a lot of good players in the draw.

"I don't put myself in the position where I have to go as far as the quarter-finals or semi-finals. If I do better than that then that's great."

true, but you can say that about sooo many WTA players. What I like about the stats I posted is that Vika usually doesn't win that much behind her first serve. Usually she gets like 80-85 % of her first serves in but wins only arond 70 % of those. Now her first serve seems to be more of a weapon. Also towards the end of the Cirstea match I saw a statistic that Cirstea only got 51 % of Vika's serves in play. That's a rather low number.

I was there yesterday but not for the match as I didn't have CC tickets. It felt kind of weird because last year I was able to watch Vika-Cirstea on Court 6 when they were both fairly unknown so it shows how far they have both come since then. I would love to watch the match at some stage because from what I hear it was a really good one with Vika playing well.

However, I did manage to catch Vika warming up on Court 16, which I didn't expect to see at all, and really was one of the highlights of my day. Here's my vid and I'll upload some pics later.

I love Vika but my goodness she has to calm down. I heard and saw some of the things she did on replay and that's just not on, apparently she pretended to hit the ball in the direction of the linesperson, and shaking their hand? I hope she gives a full apology to that women, that's just horrible behaviour.

I like someone who shows their emotions, and she's definitely exciting to watch, but there's a line between being angry and being downright abusive, and this match has not shown Vika in her best light. It's very hard to cheer for her when she's behaving like this. Then of course she'll open up on those beautiful backhands and I have to cheer for her. :inlove: But seriously, still got some growing up to do.

Chick is a winner, extremely competitive, and plays well on the big points. She is winning 93% of his first serve points this tournament so if that trend continues we are in for a very exciting QF against Williams. I personally believe she can get the job done.

2nd set was a bloody mess, and despite all of Nadia's pathetic attempts at gamesmanship, justice prevailed.
The day Vika learns to keep her emotions in check can't come soon enough. Whilst what she did to that lines umpire is inexcusable, it was a piss poor call by the officials at such a crucial point in the match.
Congrats on making your first QF Vika, brilliant effort. Serena is beatable, a ll Vika needs is that self belief

This is from memory. 7th game in the second set, 30-30, nadia hits a fh return called in according to the line judge. Vika doesn't agree goes to the judge yells about how they have the control over the match and does some cursing. When she walks back to receive, she grabs the line judges hand and shakes it. When she is finally broken she looks like she is about to hit a ball at that judge but doesnt. That was the worse. Some others she is saying a few bad words in the 10th game of the 1st set. 5th game final set she is cursing at antonio.
