Good luck to all.

I guess Anne, Elena, Amanda and Jane (the usual suspects) all are being considered for main draw?

Perhaps Emily, Sarah, Karen and Mel/Hannah considered for qualies?

I don't really remember the track record for wildcards in this tournament.

Hi, mates. I remember one brit wta player in the tabloid during last wimbledon time.
She plays not only tennis player but also swimsuit model.
That was the why, in the tabloid pic, she put on swimwear in tenniscourt. That was really wicked.
Do you know who was her and she still plays tennis:confused:

Well after Surbiton i think the wildcards should go to;
Anne, Elena, Amanda
Jane, Emily, ???, ??? (Sarah/Hannah or Karen - not sure really)

I don;t think Mel or Katie should get a wildcard, not after Surbiton!

Qual Wcs

Melanie (I think well deserved based on perfomances this year not just Surbiton)

Therefore I assume main draw Wcs

Not the nicest of draws for the girls but lets see what happens ;)

Amanda vs Stosur (#98)
Mel vs. Kirilenko (#100)
Emily vs. Perebiynis (#103)
Karen vs. Vinci (#113)

Good Luck Girls :D

All the Brit girls lost today  but some of them put up nice fights! :D

Kirilenko d. South 75 61 (Nice first set Mel)
Stosur d. Janes 61 46 64 (So close  )
Perebiynis d. Webley Smith 62 36 62 (Another great effort)
Vinci d. Paterson 63 61 (Not so close :p)

However, we have three Brits in the main draw!

Baltacha plays a qualifier and could then play Lina Krasnoroutskaya, tough but winnable.

Keothavong plays Marta Marrero and could then play Els Callens or Maria Sanchez Lorenzo, once again tough but winnable.

O'donoghue plays Emilie Loit and I don't want to look past this match as she is the huge underdog.

My predictions:

Baltacha d. Qualifier (aslong as it's not Kirilenko)
Keothavong d. Marrero 75 62
Loit d. O'donoghue 75 63

Krasnoroutskaya d. Baltacha 64 46 63
Callens d. Keothavong 75 75

Apparently Karen's match was closer than the score suggests, which is pretty much standard for Karen. She could beat the likes of Vinci if she could be more consistent in all areas ;) (i am serious!) As Paul says, she is streaky.

I think Elena could win a couple of rounds - could beat most qualifiers and Krasnoroutskaya has been out ill recently  so that is winnable. Anne could certainly beat both Marrero (clay specialist), MSL (clay) and Callens (awful run of losses) if she is consistent. Jane will have a hard time against Loit, but Emilie can be streaky so she has a slight chance.

Baltacha def. Qualifier 64 64
Keothavong def. Marrero 16 75 63
Loit def. O'Donoghue 61 75

Baltacha def. Krasnoroutskaya 62 76(4)
Callens def. Keothavong 76(7) 36 61

Sharapova def. Baltacha 63 64

Baltacha def. Qualifier 64 64
Keothavong def. Marrero 16 75 63

I agree with those predictions :) They sound possible ;) Hopefully loit has an off day ;) What is she like on grass?

From Website:

Baltacha Leads British Charge
5th June 2004 -Colin Banks

Elena Baltacha will be looking to return to her pre-injury form after being handed the best draw out of the three British players in action at this year’s DFS Classic in Edgbaston following the release of the Main Draw today.

‘Bally’ as she is commonly known will take on a qualifier in the first round, with a potential match-up against 14th seed Lina Krasnoroutskaya awaiting the winner. Victory here could be the confidence booster that Bally has been looking for as the Russian will be vulnerable as she is returning to action in Edgbaston following a six week injury layoff.

British Number One Anne Keothavong faces a difficult task against the consistent Spaniard Marta Marrero who is over 100 places above her in the rankings. Clay is by Marrero’s best surface, and with warm sunny weather expected in the days ahead to help speed up the court, that could act in Anne’s favour.

The third British player in action is Jane O’Donoghue from Wigan who faces the daunting task of taking on 9th seed Emilie Loit of France in the 1st round. Loit has been soaring up the rankings recently following two tournament victories, but Jane’s preparation on grass at Surbiton could be the key to a possible upset.

The Draw has thrown up some potential upsets and classic encounters. Top seed Nadia Petrova will have to be at her best to get past last years runner-up Shinobu Asagoe in a potential second round match, with the ever-popular Daniela Hantuchova or Elena Likhovtseva potentially waiting in the next round. 15th seed Likhovtseva has herself a dangerous 1st round opponent in 16 year old Tatiana Golovin of France who is fresh from winning the French Open Mixed Doubles Championships.

Other seeds with potential dangers include number two Patty Schnyder and number five Jelena Dokic. Schnyder isn’t exactly known for her grass court expertise, which Katarina Srebotnik will be looking to exploit in a potential second round match. Dokic has a nightmare draw with the rapidly improving Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic more than likely awaiting her. Dokic will need to lift her game to get out of her current slump.

The rising star of Maria Sharapova has been blessed with a kinder draw. The third seed should proceed to the quarter-finals without too much difficulty but 8th seed Alicia Molik could prove to be the dangerous floater awaiting her there. With such a strong draw, expect upsets a plenty and an action packed week at the DFS Classic.
