View Full Version : If Martina draws Serena...

How many points will she win? Would Serena play full gear, or tap it like a walk in the park? I'm sorry, but what on earth is this woman doing? She was the greatest of the great, always will be great, but twenty years on...

I personally think Martina has a tennis addiction. Michael Douglas had it, only with him it was sex. That's more understandable, some would say. Either way, she needs to deal with it, otherwise we'll see her literally crawling to her death on a tennis court...and clay of all surfaces? Why?

They wonīt let that happen....but if it was to happen, Martina wonīt win many points. Thatīs for sure.

They would both be amazingly nervous and most of all, would be the most attended first-round match in tennis history.

Are you suggesting that they would rig the draw to avoid such an embarassment for Martina? I'm stunned someone would suggest such a thing!

Let's put this another way: How many points/games would Martina have to win against Serena to earn your respect for her asa player NOW?

I am glad she is playing singles because it is going to be hilarious when she gets her ass beat down. I am going to get my VCR ready. I just got the tennis channel too.. the gods and goddesses must be looking down at me.

Heheheeheh.. Err go on Martina with your bad ass self!!

Couldn't Martina draw Amelie? Or how about Justine? Would the results be any different?

Martina definitely would pull out of the match. She's said many times...she knows that she would lose soundly, and she didn't come back to play singles to lose soundly. It would be a walkover.

I'm sure she wouldn't pull out, she thinks she would have a chance and didn't she say she was only playing to improve her doubles. She has been losing in singles all year, I think she has too much pride to withdraw.

Probably 6-1 6-1 Serena.

Martina could get annihilated by Serena but she could also get annihilated by quite a lot of players. Who do you think she'd rather take a heavy loss to - Serena or a young rookie, say Sprem or Sharapova?

At least with Williams she can say she got beaten by a fellow number 1, 4 in a row GS winner etc. etc.

I am even being kind to Navratilova here by using Sprem and Maria as examples. She could get a staright sets loss to some young player with even less pedigree. Sequera anyone?

Personally I think it's a farce she is there in the first place

Yeah on a grass court though. Stick Martina on a grass court at Wimbledon and she could win a couple of rounds but this is just a waste of time. She should stick to the doubles where she's still doing well.

serena would thrash martina, even on grass serena would smash her.

I think Martina would win a few games. I don't think she would look stupid anymore than most players do just because they lose easily to Serena. I mean, it is Serena.

I don't think Serena would give her any favors, I don't think either would like or respect that.

I certainly think Martina would show up, she's never been a pussy and won't start now :p

especially on grass... I think Martina stands a better chance on clay... maybe she could catch a few of Serena's shots :p

I think Serena would use her acting skills, and try to extend some of
the rallies. The score would be something like 6-3, 6-2 and this is with
Serena "acting" out and letting Martina wins some games.

Serena would be extremely focused knowing that by letting Martina get a game it would tarnish the legitimacy of Serena's reign. 6-0 6-0

Serena herself would show Navratilova a lot more respect (both on and off court) than most of the posters on this thread do but that's because she has class.

I fear Martina would lose to basically everyone in the draw, if not even the qualifying draw.

I am sure she would show Martina respect but are you suggesting she would ease up on Martina out of respect?
To me that would be even more humiliating for Martina than taking a heavy beating.

My thoughts exactly!

Serena would crush her 6-0 6-0!

The question becomes how
many points can Martina win, if any.

No, what I'm saying is that Serena is a pro: she'd go into that match wanting to win every point but she also would NOT underestimate any opponent, including Martina. There'd be no trash talk before or after: she'd do her job and the result would be whatever it would be.

Martina is making a big mistake, I really hate it when real champions don't retire and stay out while they are ahead, seeing someone like her get thrashed (which i'm sure she will), is not good for anyone.
