#10, #11 and #12 on the rankings this week are all russian. dementieva is the top 10er with zvonareva at 11 and kuznetsova at 12. elena is on 2236.00 points, vera 1997.00 points and sveta 1965.00 and sugiyama is only 13.00 points behind sveta and rubin 49.00 points behind sugiyama so things are quite tight at the moment in this part of the rankings. sveta is the form player. sveta only has 1st round points to defend at RG while vera has QF points to defend. elena has round 1 points to defend, sugiyama has 4th round points to defend and rubin has QF points to defend.

the draw will play a big part in this i think. vera is capable of defending depending on the draw imo, sveta has almost no points to defend and in the form she is in she will likely play to her seeding and maybe go further. sugiyama is playing ok but i dont think she has a chance in this and the same with rubin.

so imo it is out of vera and sveta who can possibly take elena out of the top 10. but with elena like sveta only having to defend 1st round points can anyone take elena out of the top 10? sure elena is streaky and hasnt got many good results this year but being seeded quite highly and being a slam elena has a good chance of drawing a low ranked player so she might just win a couple of rounds.

S. Williams also has a lot of points to defend and is not that far ahead of the pack. Maybe it will be her who gives up her Top 10 spot to one of the Russians....

Svetlana or Kuznetsova of course, Vera is good...but then she has been in the same level as last year I guess whereas Kuzlana has improved alot not only in one surface...

will they ever make it?! Isnt it funny how many tries it takes the Russians to hit a career-high?! Vera had like thousands of chances to make it to the top 10, Nadia too. Svetlana started real hot, but seems to be running out of steam without even winning big..dont know. Me likes Svet more, because shes agressive...

Probably Sveta, coz she only has 1st round points to defend at the French Open. I think that Vera will defend her points, so it's a question of how Sveta and Elena D perform. Nadia Petrova also has SF points to defend, so she may factor into the equation.

If Vera doesn't make the top 10 now, she'll make it in the period between Wimbledon and the US Open because the only major points she has to defend are QF points from Toronto.

Zvonereva has a lot of French points to defend, so I'll say Svetlana will get there first. :)

Once you take off 2003 RG points, you have:

#7 Dementieva 2236
#8 Venus 2132
#9 Kuznetsova 1965
#10 Serena 1845
#11 Petrova 1838
#12 Sugiyama 1824
#13 Rubin 1671
#14 Zvonareva 1695

Petrova is out of the top10, and the next in line seems to be Kuznetsova with more than 100 safe pts.

Serena, Petrova and Sugiyama are really close to each other though ... of those 3, the one who lasts longer will be also top10 after RG!
