Rubin Returns in Vienna

VIENNA, Austria - The Wien Energie Grand Prix features eleven of the Top 50 players on the WTA Tour. Leading the field is American Chanda Rubin, making her much awaited return to the game. Rubin has been suffering from a continuing left knee injury (http://get-data.net/?go=knee+injury) that has kept her off the court since the Toray Pan Pacific Open in February. Anna Smashnova-Pistolesi is the only former champion in the draw, winning the title in 2002. She has showcased recent success the past few weeks on clay. Smashnova-Pistolesi holds a winning record of 7-4 on clay this season and has posted solid results, reaching the third round of Charleston and Berlin and the quarterfinals of Warsaw.

American Lisa Raymond holds the third seeded slot, making her first appearance in Vienna. Raymond will meet the winner between two strong Slovakians in the second round, as Lubomira Kurhajcova and Ludmila Cervanova battle it out in the first round.

No.4 seed is Maria Vento-Kabchi, who is also making her first appearance in Vienna. Vento-Kabchi posted her best result of the season a few weeks ago in Miami, before the transition to clay where she upset No.6 seed Ai Sugiyama in the second round.
