Do you have someone in your life who is not supportive of your love for tennis thus preventing you from watching, playing etc. as much tennis as you would like? Do you have to compete for the tv, or beg to go to matches or play tennis? Who are these villians? Or have you created a wonderful harmnony and have the support of loved ones in your love for the game? What can we do to put a cork in these detractors, and what helpful hints do people with good working relationships have for those poor souls suffering under the yoke?

6 tvs? Cable? Youre killing me here. Maybe I gotta make a stand here. Maybe request one of the Wtaworld.com administrators to make a call in my support?

my parents wants to support my tennis but they think its unpractical to spend money (for training fee) on a sport which they think is just a hobby...its one of the things in my life that i still can't accept  they can't take my tennis in a serious level...but they are however supportive on the fact that i love to watch tennis matches on tv as much as i can ;)

LOL...I love this thread :D

Everyone thinks I'm weird, but they have all gotten use to it that they don't even bother me anymore...they know its a losing battle...

When I visit my parents, they are so annoyed that I log on to follow matches online and stay on the computer forever, that they are getting another computer and have even gotten DSL so I can stop bitching...

My friends ande family all know they come second if tennis is ON...PERIOD :D

I forgot the funny part. To the best of my non-fans knowledge the qualifs start on Saturday and that is the first day im going. but they actually start tomorrow and im going thursday and friday as well. What will be interesting is when they see on the news tomorrow or later in the week that the qualifs are indeed being held on thurdsday and friday - thats when the fireworks will really start. Theres gotta be a better way?

Having to put up with my father's lectures on the tennis court did not assist me in appreciating tennis, and since he was banned at my baseball games, baseball was better. My brother was better than me at hockey, so my love has stuck to baseball. (A better game--ask Agassi to serve with runners behind him and a different returner on every serve and we'll see how he does).

You poor person. He must have been a monster to have been banned from your sports venues. Do you have any advice to those people who need to cork up those people who cant understand our love for sport?

Not really. My current complaints are less about love ones, but employers, who don't understand how rewarding amateur sport is and who just see it as time away from the office. Or how much the Ministry of Sport is willing to invest money in sport. Granted, it is difficult to balance the demands of a competitive athletic life and work, but for me I would go crazy if I wasn't on a team.

My dad is really into tennis too, although he hates it when my room is a mess and I spend the whole summer watching the French, Wimbledon and USopen ;).

But generally everyday he asks me who won and who lost at certain events and loves going to tourneys with me (not afraid to pay ;)).

I know a couple times he got mad b/c I kept running up and down the stairs checking scores while I was eating lunch :)

How come people a couple people like my thread but they dont tell me how to solve my problem..? Advice please?

Haywood

I guess my advice is not to expect too much from one's loved ones, and try to give them what they need. I'm not very good at doing that either. What is trivial to one person is important to another. It is unfortunate that some people do not have the time to share other people's activities. It seems to me that much of the pleasure in life is entering and sharing another person's world.

who is this person you talk of?:)

Greenout
May 18th, 2004, 11:39 AM
No, it's not that there's people in the way or anything; but I like talking
about it and they don't really care! For example, we're all getting
amped up here at WTAworld.com for Roland Garros and they aren't excited by it very much.

Most non-tennis fans, or neutrals only want to see big upsets or ugly
choking and the matches from the QF's to the final. They don't care about
1-4th round matches, and don't find the rumours, insults, innuendo's as
entertaining as we all do. ;)

my mates and family think it weird how i know all the scores of every random match etc, but at the same time i don't spend my time letting it be known how obsessed i am. i play alll the time at my club with all my mates but i'm the only one who is really into pro tennis. it kind of has a novelty value for them.
