Both were worthy of the win. Mauresmo must be feeling on top of the world right now. :)

May 16th, 2004, 04:19 PM
argh, jen has a talent for losing these heart-breakers! still, she's had a very good tournament and fought until the end in the final. she can definitely be counted as a contender at RG. nice win, momo.

May 16th, 2004, 04:19 PM
Yes! She finally captured the Italian Open!!!! :woohoo: :bounce:

May 16th, 2004, 04:20 PM
Wow...nice couple of weeks for Momo....winning Berlin and Roma back to back!! And the Roma winners have usually done pretty well at RG the last couple of years.

Plus: Jen´s obviously back!

May 16th, 2004, 04:20 PM
Good job Amelie :)

Awesome fight Jenny, giving me a heart attack! You were so much closer than last week. Semi, Final, next week win? Sounds good to me!

May 16th, 2004, 04:20 PM

Momo has a great chance of winning the French open... but remember, it's just a chance anything can happen...All the best though!!!

As For jennifer, i think she did well to erase last week's loss and she's definately one contender for RG!!! Go Jennifer! Go Amelie!!! :bounce:

Poor Capster, she really put a GREAT fight :worship:

I hope with this great fight win, Momo has armed herself the big confidence she always need against top players. Congrats Momo :woohoo:

May 16th, 2004, 04:24 PM
Great tournament for both girls.

Either one could have come away the winner today!

I'm thankful it was Amélie and that she pulled it out and kept her cool.

Jen played a fantastic tournament and should be damned proud, because this could just as easily be her trophy.

May 16th, 2004, 04:28 PM

Congrats to both women, especially Amelie. For a second there I thought Amelie would lose in the Roma final once again and this tournament would be her curse, but that's not at all the case. :D

May 16th, 2004, 04:30 PM
Great fight by both ladies! :D For Momo, finally fourth time lucky ;)
Really looking forward to RG now!

May 16th, 2004, 04:34 PM
Congrats Amelie! I like the never-give-up attitude.

Maybe this could be her year at the French.

May 16th, 2004, 04:43 PM
Amelie is getting really mentally tough now.

May 16th, 2004, 04:43 PM
If they play at the French, Jenn will surely win--->Unless Amelie climbs her last mental mountain ;).

May 16th, 2004, 04:49 PM
The Jen O Rator is back! Be Afraid! Be Very Afraid! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

May 16th, 2004, 04:54 PM
I'm very impressed and pleased with the way Jenn has roared back into form. It reminds me of Venus' metamorphosis a few weeks ago. People wrote her off, and then she showed them what she was truly capable of. I'm really happy that Jenn has found her form because we need more contenders at this point in women's tennis!

I'm happy for Amelie because it's been such a tough year for her as well...with injuries and also the loss of her father. So these personal victories are definitely a sign of her resilience and maturity. I hope that she can continue on this path. I seriously don't think she's as mentally fragile anymore. When you've lost a parent, then you can put things and perspective and realise that tennis is a game. And that will take off some pressure.

Congrats to both girls! they've done themselves and their fans proud!! :bounce: :bounce:

May 16th, 2004, 04:58 PM
wow. great win amelie. it was so close but you kept your nerves and surged ahead at the very last 2 points, when it mattered most. congratualtions!

jenn :( but you played great this week! keep working hard like you have been and you'll be just fine.

May 16th, 2004, 05:04 PM
great match by both players, just wish Jen could have came out on top, but its alright, you both will be considered favs at Paris, and i hope you both have a good run in Paris! :bounce:

May 16th, 2004, 05:06 PM

May 16th, 2004, 05:45 PM
I'm quite annoyed now that eurosport didn't cover this live - it would have been great.

Congrats to Amelie, fourth time lucky .

Better luck next time JenCap, but seeing what your year had been like up till now, not bad at all :yeah:.

May 16th, 2004, 05:47 PM
that ones a really nice pic.

amelie so deserves to be the favorite, but jen gets a little bit better every week, and that's scary for those who may normally beat her going into RG.
great 2 weeks from both ladies. what a difference a week made for jen. it was so good to see her be positive after making the semis and getting beaten badly to come into this tournament and have this kind of success-- remarkable.

i think one of these 2 should win RG.

well played, MOMO, keep it goin in the homeland ;)

May 16th, 2004, 05:51 PM
Nice pic!!! One of them should win it I just hope its Jen. I want to see a rematch for the championship at RG that would be awesome!!!

May 16th, 2004, 05:51 PM
nice pic, thanks, congrats to both, great match girls! :bounce: :worship:

May 16th, 2004, 05:53 PM
Congrats to both players for what has been a fantastic week for perhaps different reasons. After getting to the final and losing out on occasions previously, this is a huge title for Amelie. Following on from last week, it shows she's in perhaps the best form of all the contenders going into RG. Her confidence will be sky-high and she has no one to fear.

As for Jen, well, at the start of the week, my hopes were for her to get to the quarters and secure a top 8 seeding for Paris. That now looks a little unfair, but goes to show the moves Jen's made this last week or two. As a fan, I'm stunned by what she's done this last week or so.

The injuries that have blighted this season have affected both these players, so seeing them both back, in form and fit, is great for us all to see. Long may their good health continue.

Congrats to Amelie and her fans for a big victory and for toughing it out.

(and to us Jen fans - we've got reason to be happy right now. Had someone offered me Jen in the final at the start of the week, I'd have snatched their hand off.)

May 16th, 2004, 06:04 PM
Congrats momo and good luck to Jen Jen at the French..she looks like a real contender :D :)

May 16th, 2004, 06:11 PM

Jen: what a run baby! own RG :bounce:

May 16th, 2004, 06:35 PM
Allez Amelie!!!!:D

Good job, I would hope that she can carry it over to the French. ;)

May 16th, 2004, 06:46 PM
 Wow, what an amazing match it must have been!! :worship:

HUGE Congratulations to both players!! (Can't wait to see the highlights on Eurosport tonight!! :D )

All credit to both women for the quality of the match and the way the BOTH fought so hard. It could have gone either way and though I foundmyself rooting for jen, I am happy for Momo that she won her first Italian in her 4th final. She is the heir(ess) apparent for the title of queen of clay 2004, with Lindsay and Venus just behind. Jen has shown that she is a serious candidate for RG, too.
It's great that so many players seem to have a realistic chance this year.

May 16th, 2004, 08:24 PM
Sounds like it was a good match, just what the tour needed after somewhat disappointing finals fo far this year.

May 16th, 2004, 08:30 PM
Hey i am dissappointed Jen did not win but i am glad it was amelie that won, i am sort of happy i think they both have great respect for each other and they both did great.

May 16th, 2004, 09:30 PM
Well done Mighty Momo. :yeah: :woohoo:

May 16th, 2004, 09:31 PM
Congrats Amelie! :D... Better luck next time Jenny!

May 16th, 2004, 11:11 PM
:worship: Mauresmo staring down match point and winning the match.

:( Poor Jennifer! Yet ANOTHER classic match where she's the runner-up.

May 16th, 2004, 11:15 PM
Aw man!! I just logged on and saw that Jen lost. But its ok cuz both players played great in Italy. Good luck to both in RG!!!

May 16th, 2004, 11:42 PM
Momo! :worship:

She really does seem mentally tougher now. But now for that mental mountain, as someone said: another attempt to win RG in front of her home crowd. Hang in there, Amelie. You can do it, baby! :D

May 16th, 2004, 11:51 PM
Not only can she do it, but I have a feeling she will do it. Amelie Mauresmo - French Open champion. Watch out for her ego after that, though.

May 17th, 2004, 12:49 AM
Jen :hearts: I love you so much... You never give up. Never :hearts: And that is one of the best qualities to have in life and in sport :) Keep going!

Congrats Amélie :) :yeah:

May 17th, 2004, 02:10 AM
A fine week. Excellent. Amelie's in my top favorite list too, so I am thrilled.
I unfortunately did not see what was an outstanding 3 setter. Damn living
out of Europe.

Congrats Amelie! and Bravo to the Capster - great job done!

May 17th, 2004, 02:42 AM
Congratulation to both players, they played their hearts out. Good Luck to Jen :hearts: and Amelie at RG. I can't wait til it starts, i'll be cheering for them :yeah:

great pics, well done amelie and well played jen too
great match, watching highlights now!! :D

May 17th, 2004, 10:36 AM
I'm really happy I was able to see the match on TV! :bounce:
These girls have put up a terrific match, with very high quality tennis for more than two hours... it had been long since the tour had treated us fans to such an intense and beautiful match!
As a fan of Jen :hearts:, there's been inevitably a bit of a bittersweet feeling when the tie break proclaimed Amélie the winner... but to see Jen back into that form, playing that kind of tennis, hitting the ball so cleanly, and the way she moved and found winners even when forced to play on the run, well it was just amazing and it gave me a great feeling. I'm really happy for Amélie, losing this final for the fourth time would have been too much! I have a lot of respect and admiration for her, and thank God my love for the game is bigger than any rivalry... so I can honestly be pleased when a player proves she's the better player out there and deserves a win. Yesterday it was so close it could have gon either way. Momo did something better JUST whe it became crucial, so :worship:

The greatest thing of all is that both Amélie and Jen have been playing this awesome tennis, and other players have, as well, over the past weeks, so going into Roland Garros with this perspective is just great... we might have a really memorable edition a week ahead of us!! :bounce:

May 17th, 2004, 11:22 AM
nice match!

May 17th, 2004, 02:48 PM
I really hope Jenny to go all the way...... I really thought this was her tournament to win finally......... But, that's life!!!!

May 17th, 2004, 02:54 PM
Does anybody have the stats for this final?
