Wow! I never though Capriati could beat a Williams Sister again. Especially not after soooooo many close losses in a row in 2002 and 2003, many of which she had a lead in but simply folded mentally. Congrats Jen!

Of course, now she must face the Clay Beast of 2004: Amelie! Maybe this time Jenny can get 3 games instead of just 2. ;) I feel like it's time for Amelie to FINALLY win Rome after two previous final disasters.

Nothing...īcause Serena actually had plenty of chances in this match. 5 bpīs in the first, couldnīt convert, a couple more in the second, only converted once...thatīs it. Needs to get that ruthlessness on big points again...

Hmm, mighty twisted logic. It means that Jenn gets finalist points, while Serena only gets Semifinal points for one. It gives Jenn confidence going into RG. It means that if Jenn gets beat by Momo...Serena would get thumped.

just because one player loses to someone and that player loses to another player, doesnt mean the first player who lost would lose to the other player, in this case if Jen would lose to momo(which i think and hope she will win) doesn't mean serena would lose to her

Actually it means, "Holy Crap, Serena made it to the Semifinals of a Tier One tournament on her least favorite surface and on her third tournament back on tour." If that isn't an accomplishment for someone being injured for the last year, then I don't know what is.

But Congratulations Jen! I'm sure you played well and deserve this win. Good Luck tomorrow.

Not a good match at all.
In the first Serena seemed to play better, she had many breakpoints on Jenn's serve but when she had to close the game she made an unforced error. Serena made a lot of mistakes and Jenn's game increased during the set. in the second Jennifer made tons of winners, balls on the line while Serena continuead her streak of errors. When she had to close the match, she seemed to be a bit nervous and lost two games but on 5-4 Serena had two breakpoints and made 4 unforced errors and lost the match.
I'm happy Jenny won today and also I hope she could win also tomorrow!!!
BTW she's half-italian

It appears from reading the posts of some Serena fans that the match meant nothing; that Serena's loss mean nothing; that Serena only needed to get to the semis; that it was unimportant if Serena lost or won; and that a victory over Serena only has significance if the winner goes on to win the tournament.

It's kind of confusing.

Mauresmo will be hoping to avoid losing in the Italian final for the 4th time in 5 years, do a Rome-Berlin double and go into RG as Queen of Red Clay 2004 and hot favourite to win the title.

Jen in her first ever final in Rome will be aiming for her biggest title since Aus 2002 and if she beats Momo, she would also establish herself among the faves for RG.

Don't be a smart A_ _ .I think this win means more to Jen, then the lose means to Serena, because Serena made it to the semis of her first red clay court tourney without red clay preparations and what this is Jens 3rd.

P.S. I'm not a Serena Fan I'm a Tennis Fan, to bad you can't be the same.

If it is phrased in that way, I've got no problem with it. But, as a tennis fan, I don't see any reason to denigrate Jen's victory.

I'm not a fan of either woman. In fact, both are two of my least favorite players. But, what I'm really not a fan of is all the crap that fans have to take when one of their favorites beats either Venus or Serena.

And, really there's no need to stoop to personal insults. I could do the same with you. You really have no idea how big a tennis fan I am. My guess is that I've followed the sport far more intensely than you over a greater lenght of time.

I said it in another thread. This is a huge win in terms of confidence.
2 sets, coming back from what looked on the scoreboard as chicken bone
stuck in the throat? If the Capster get's Venus or Serena in the QF's I
think she'll be feeling mighty good about herself. Amelie is a totally
different ball striker than Serena, she may or may not win it; but you
can't deny that this was a huge win for the Capster.

It's uncool to ruin the Capsters supporters party today, by thrashing
them on Sunday if she happens to fall against Amelie. I really disliked
the way Elena D got ripped apart because she couldn't take the title
in Miami.

Well, I knew Serena wouldn't win IO. She has to be playing at 100% to win on clay.

Atleast she's losing in the SF now, rather than the QF :p

But that's why I think Serena isn't that great a clay courter relative to her sister or to others, because she can't win unless she's close to 100%.

But anyway, Serena, go and practice with Venus so you can learn a thing or two! ;)

Well I didn't mean to denigrat Jen's victory, infact I'm happy for her I think it was well deserved, but it upsets me when she not winning matches her fans think she is just in a slump but when other players are coming back from injuries or maybe in a slump the are washed up has beens. Or in the case of Venus when she won 2 striaght titles on clay, they'll say she got lucky or she didn't play any top ten players. To me a win is a win especially on a difficult serface like dirt. And that's Capriati's only real hope of getting a few more wins in on Serena. Catch her in the form she was in today..very error prone... and very out-matched in matchplay. Serena had her opportunities to win this match in straight sets herself.. lie to yourself about it all you want, it's still the truth.

It's also good for the rivalry. These two produce such great matches, but after 2001 Serena had won them, usually in a third set. It's great for the "underdog" to prove that she can still take a win --- that will just make their future encounters all the more exciting! :woohoo:

Nice win to Cappy. Of course it means something to beat Serena and to make the final of a tier I, even if Momo does manage to give her another thrashing, which I'm not counting on...but I'd like to see it happen.

And even if Momo...ahem...goes down ;) against Cappy this time, since she seems to have a final-round jinx in Rome, it means something that she got this far again. For a start, she's already defended her Berlin/Rome points from last year. :hehehe:

Good job for Capriati to seize the moment and get her first win in nearly three, long years. She played consistently, patiently and allowed Serena to make her umpteenth error. But I do have to say, I was a bit mystified by Serena's lackluster performance. She seemed fairly disinterested and unbothered by the whole match. I thought, gee she seems to be unconcerned about saving face and unbothered by the day's event. I got the impression she would perfer to be eating some pasta and drinking some chianti than playing. The fire was not in her eyes. The surge at 1-5 seemed more to avoid looking like she had been blown out. I'm frankly very disappointed in her play and perforamce moreso than her loss.

I wouldn't get too laxed..because when Serena come back...for revenge...SHE COMES BACK WITH NO MERCEY (ask Justine ;)) Jennifer, to me personally, is a better player than the Belgiums she is just inconsistent...so i'm glad for her..I hope she can hold it up till the French....because if you know like I know........SERENA WILL BE WAITING FOR HER! ;) Congrats to another one of my favorites though.....
