something happened last night and i wanna get as many peoples' views on it as possible

1) is the term "black bitch" racist? (no, it wasn't said to me :))
2) if you're white, would you use the slur "n!gger" around black people, or at all? (no, this wasn't said about to me either)

thanks :)

I think so... why else would it be necessary to include "black" in there if it was not meant in a derrogatory manner?

2) if you're white, would you use the slur "n!gger" around black people, or at all? (no, this wasn't said about to me either)

I don't understand why anybody of any race would want to use that term, so there certainly isn't any excuse for a white person to be using it.

The only reason anyone would post a thread asking these questions is to cause frictionI think that statement is more appropriate to your contribution. But I don't want to get into a polemical discussion about race, so I'll say each to their own opinion. I've got my fingers burnt too often in the past.

Oh my lol...I hardly ever speak English in real life so I would never say ****** and I never heard somebody being called a 'black bitch' either (I do think it's racist though. Bitch is referring to a person. Black bitch is referring to black) but two nights ago I ordered a 'black bitch' at a coctail party. It was delicious  :o Coke, rhum and lemonjuice ;)

Oops to aswer the question: No

SJW
May 8th, 2004, 08:32 PM
 @ emptyhead

ok i'll share my reasons for asking:

1) my white friend (really good friend) and her on/off boyfriend are always arguing. now he had a black girlfriend before her, and while my friend and him were "off" she was around his house and found a pic of them all dressed up in a bar holding hands and smiling. now this picture was taken while my friend and him were "on" (it was at his friends wedding). she became the jealous girlfriend and started screwin', saying "fucking bitch" when describing her. then "black bitch" flew out of her mouth, and her guy is really anti racist, so had a go at her. she said to me she didn't mean anything by it, and naturally said "well you're my friend, so how can i be a racist?" while i love this girl, i was  now i was surrounded by loads of white people, all eyes on me, so i couldn't start screwin' at her. so i was like "yea yea i understand".

2) while walking home with about 8 ppl from the pub last night, this black guy and girl were having an argument on the other side of the street. now we were really cautious, cuz the last time this happened my friend got involved and got put in hospital. anyway the black guy saw us looking and said to some of the people walking in front "stop staring before i come over there and sort you out" etc etc etc. this guy i know was like "who's that", cuz we knew the girl (incidently, this was the girl who wouldn't give me her friend's name who beat up my friend :) this guy from up north, my friend's girlfriend's brother, replied "i don't know, some loud ******" and then realised his error and said "only joking". now last night i was drunk, so didn't think too much about it, but i am sooooooo mad right now. if i saw him i would kick his ass. i just don't understand why people think it's alright to say that, especially around black people :(

i know it's confusing, but i hope you get what i mean. :)

YES calling someone a black bitch is rasict, no matter how PC calling them black is. Your not just calling them a bitch, your trying to attach somehthign about being black to being a bitch, therefore using a persons race to be an insult to them (does that make sense)

I dont like using the word ****** myself, I think its a nasty word. I would never say it to anyone, and I dont really like using it, even when I have had to (say when giving talks about taboo language or the Color Purple in english). I dont really like how black people have turned it around and call each other ******, cos to me thats almost self hate, even though I know its not how its used. I dont know Ive just been taught not to like the use of that word. I mean I bought a Missy Elliot album when i was 14 and iddnt like the way she used it all the time. It upset me, obvisuoy Ive grown used to it now...

your sig explains it allI think emptyhead fully appreciates that his/her comments will provoke a negative reaction, hence, that's why he/she submits lame posts.

Getting back to your experiences, it only serves validate that first comment about "black bitch" even more. This white girl was bitter, hurt, angry and lashed aout at what she perceived to be the most "negative" aspect about this other person, which is her race.

Because I am dual heritage, many of my white friends say things like "you're not black black are you?" The most horrific statement ever was when I was in a nightclub and this guy came up to me (I liked him before he opened his mouth :lick: ) and said " I don't usually like dark people but you look more like us [meaning whites]". The funny thing was he thought it was a compliment :tape: Needless to say no one-night stand that evening.

There's nothing wrong with my posts, well sometimes theyre okay

I cannot recall ever receiving a negative reaction to any posts that I made.

SJW, do you make up names for these friends?

saki
May 8th, 2004, 08:58 PM
1. Yes, mostly, although I can see how your friend could say it while angry and not really mean it.

2. Probably not. I don't have any black friends but I will sometimes refer to my lesbian friends as "dykes" in an affectionate way. So I guess I might do the same with "******" although I'd probably steer away from it as too politically charged.

1. i dunno about racist . it certainly doesnt imply that shes a closet racist . i just think that identifying people by their appearance is the first thing one does when one is upset . esp when you dont look like that person . its just so ingrained into our society
like ive called fat white girls "fat white ****s" and skinny black girls "skinny black bitches" etc and i dont consider myself racist in the slightest . i think everyone in their own way has preconceived notions about things theyve never experienced . and when youre mad they can come to the surface . that doesnt mean they have racist feelings thou

am i making any sense? im still hungover

2. no, never . i dont even feel comfortable saying the word

1) Gotta allow for speaker, subject, and context. Wouldn't use it myself.

2) Not anymore, but did as a young man, until I realized that it's a dig and hurtful no matter how good a face black people present might put on. They knew I wasn't racist, but that word has no positive or innocuous application, IMO.

im coloured myself and at work i always say wassup my ****** to my asian mates and occasionally my white mates too hmmmmmmmmm make of that wot u will hahaFine if your workmates find that okay. But all it would take is for one person to take offence to that remark and all sorts of disciplinary action could ensue. I personally would bring that remark up with my line-manager and submit a formal complaint. But that's me.

My personal experience was that somebody called me half-caste at work and disciplinary action was taken, culminating in that person writing an apology as I did not want to take it further. BTW when did the term "coloured" become "in vogue" again? :)

I'm taking a wild guess here, but I think I'm right.

Like I said, it is probably good fortune that nobody in the bakery has taken offence thus far, but it just takes one person...

1)she became the jealous girlfriend and started screwin', saying "fucking bitch" when describing her. then "black bitch" flew out of her mouth,

2)"i don't know, some loud ******"

1) In the first case, I don't think this is worth losing a friend over. As you said, it "flew out of her mouth" in jealous anger. She could (in different circumstances) have said, "fat bitch", "lanky bitch" or "ginger bitch" but it wouldn't mean she harboured a hatred towards obese, tall, or red haired women.

2) No, that word is definitely taboo for white people, although it need not neccessarily mean that your friend's girlfriend's brother from up north is a racist and you should certainly not see it as a personal attack on you.

well, a bitch is a bitch. so when u say black bitch, there obviously a negative racial connotation to it.

i have black friends, and no i dont call them ******s.

i do call the chinese chinkos however. and the muslims in my country natexes. and they call the indians "keling". among friends its ok, but if someone else does it, there's trouble.

that pretty much sums it up for me... she's your best friend, you're the one kho knows her the best, if this incident makes you doubt about her true feelings and friendship, maybe you shouldn't be friends with her in the first place... but keep in mind that everybody, and I mean absolutely everyone, says or does something he/she regrets later on... true friends know how to forgive your little mistakes and ultimately it's your call to do...

There's a huge difference between the way ppl into Hip Hop culture use the "words" Nigga, Niggah, Niggaz, etc. and the way racists use "******". (Which doesn't excuse any of the bad stuff about gangsta rap, of course).
