Predict-the-SCORE is a game in which you can predict the actual scores of matches on the WTA tour.
Throughout the Telecom Italia Masters -from Rome-, you will predict the scores to 24 matches of your choice. However, the matches must be chosen in this breakdown
If a match becomes invalid (withdrawals or a retirement during the match) the pick is not counted and you may reuse it any other time during the tournament.
If you plan on playing, you need to commit in the Predict-the-SCORE forum of the games section. Since this is our first tournament with commitments, I will allow people to play if they forget to commit, but after that, you must post a commitment.

How the Scoring works:
Here is an example:
Several players decide to predict the Myskina vs Petrova Quarter-Final Match
ACTUAL MATCH RESULT: Myskina def Petrova 6-7, 6-1, 6-1
Let’s say the following are predictions from a range of players:
1. Myskina to beat Petrova 6-7, 6-1, 6-1
Dead accurate and correct score, 35 points.
2. Myskina to beat Petrova 6-1, 6-7, 6-1
You predicted the number of sets correctly and you got all three set scorelines correct, just in reverse the actual, this still gets you 25 points.
3. Myskina to beat Petrova 6-1, 3-6, 6-2
You predicted the number of sets correctly, and you predicted one of the set scorelines correct (6-1) and it was correct because Myskina won that set 6-1 like she actually did.
A prediction like this will reward you 20 points. (note if you predicted two of the sets correct but not the third on in a three match you will be given a bonus 3 points here)
4. Myskina to beat Petrova 7-6, 3-6, 6-4
You predicted the number of sets correctly, and although 7-6 was in the actual scoreline, in the real match Petrova won the set 7-6 not Myskina, as you have predicted.
So any situations like this when you have predicted the correct winner and correct number of sets but no correct actual scorelines, you still gain 15 points.
5. Myskina to beat Petrova 6-1, 6-2
You predicted the correct winner but not the correct number of sets but you did correctly predict at least one scoreline that was correct (6-1 in Myskina’s favour), so you get 12 points.
(note if you picked Myskina to beat Petrova 6-1, 6-1, you still got at least one set correct, so that’s worth 12 too).
6. Myskina to beat Petrova 6-3, 7-6
You predicted the correct winner, but neither of the scorelines were correct (note that 7-6 was in the real scoreline but in Petrova’s favour not Myskina’s as you have predicted). A prediction like this will reward you with 10 points.
7. Petrova to beat Myskina 7-5, 1-6, 7-6
0 points for any incorrect “match” winner prediction.

Well, a couple of stories are developing even after the First Day in Rome. First of all, this marks the most successful day points-wise we have ever had...so congratulations on that one :). _shorty_ has opened up the tournament on top in just his second tournament, Hantuchov has returned to earlier form and is in second, and safwilldem is making a triumphant debut (not counting the brief stint in Berlin) with third palce after the first round. It is still very close and anything can happen so keep picking! :)

Now, even though the Shaughnessy/Farina Elia match was postponed until tomorrow...i am posting second round scores now...but for two people these scores may go up.
WOW. Relative newcomers safwilldem and Botas have taken the top two spots early here in Rome. It will be interesting to see if their limited experience will hurt them with established veterans silverwhite and Hantuchov right on their tails. Have fun and keep predicting! :)

The top 3 players are all within 2 points of each other. They are pulling out to a 20 point lead over the large trailing pack, but with 6 total picks left...there are 11 or 12 people with a shot at this title. After tomorrow, things should have sorted themselves out a little more, and with some possibilities for upsets tomorrow with players coming off injury, it will all come down to which quarterfinal people decide to omit. Have fun! :)
I would say predict for the semis, but they are underway :(. And I got here JUST too late to predict in Williams/Capriati. (I was writing my prediction but hadn't posted it yet when the first point was played :( :( :( :()

do you think that it will be fair to count SF reuslts? this board had some problems in the last 24 hours and many people (including me) were unable to post their SF predictions in time.

I am aware, I was one of them too. But it was up in sufficient time for most of the people to post their semifinal picks, and if I had been really dedicated I could have woken up at 3 am to make my picks, bu I didn't, so I don't get points for this round.
Well, it looks like we have a two man race for the title (silverwhite would need a perfect pick and incorrect picks from the top 2). They are within 4 points of each other and therefore it is anyone's tournament at this point. They will have to pick strtegically based on the other person's pick.
What an exciting finish to the game after an exciting finish to the match! Safwilldem's courageous pick just 26 minutes before the match was the 2nd most accurate of the round...however, he did not predict any of the exact sets correctly and only garnered 15 points, while Hantuchov did not pick the correct number of sets, but did get one of the sets correct, so he garnered 12 points...just enough to hang on to his lead and win the tournament. Amazing how this game imitates life isn't it. Well, we had a very exciting tournament...congratulations to all players...but with safwilldem's near victory in just his first full tournament, I think it is clear that we can expect great things from him in the future.
