Do YOU have a good drop shot?

I think it's a shot that is underused. I tend to use it a lot(like once every 2-3 games) because it's so effective. Either I hit a winner of it or I hit a winner on the shot after(a passing or a lob). And after a while, your opponent gets tired especially when you play outdoor on a hot day.. I just love drop shotting..

What about you?

Mine is not bad. I like to use it also, but it depends on the opponent. There are a couple of people I play against who are rather uncomfortable up at the net, and not that fast. So even if they make it to the drop shot, I often have a chance to pass them at net.

Sometimes my backhand slice turns into a drop shop unintentionally because I don't hit it deep enough. gotta work on that. ;)

I have a pretty good forehand drop shot. I played this one point where i hit a backhand drop shot off a high, mid-court ball and my oppenent got to it. I hit a lob and pushed him back, then at the last second on the short ball, I played a drop shot and he didn't even move!!

I disguise my forehand drop really well, and since I play High School tennis when people pitty-pat their second serve over instead of ripping the return(which is what I usually do), I'll play a short angled drop shot usually for a winner. I do that once in ever other match!!

The drop shot is fun to play when you can use it right, huh?

I don't have one.

I have a pretty good short slice BH which could almost pass for a drop shot, but it's not. :p

I don't hit drop shots. Why? Because I like to move in behind them, and I'm not the best at the net.

I'm good from the baseline. My forehand is my weapon.

God no! My drop shot sucks! If my opponent is ten feet behind the baseline and sends up a WEAK passing shot I MIGHT try a drop shot. And it's 50-50 I'll blow it if I'm at the net.

I don't have a good drop shot because it usually bounces to high that my opponent would catch it very soon and hit a deadly angle shot that kill me. :haha:

i hardly ever use it, but im playing in a tournament atm and i hit an AWESOME one yesterday!
me and my opponent were rallying backwards and forwards, and he hit it to my backhand. i took my racquet back as if to hit a drive, but stopped and just dropped it over the net and it bounce about 10 times in the service box

I have a great dropshot, unfortunately it's also my first serve :(

I do and it's pathetic, lands on the service line all the time. The only time when it's effective is when I come under the slice backhand unintentionally.

thats funny. i win so many points with my slice bh because its so short. i act like i meant for it to be a drop shot but the truth is i got the same problem you have but it works to my advantage. because the motion is identical, neither me or my oponent can tell if it going to pin him back at the baseline or if its going to be a drop shot

And I love your signature, probably one of the best I have ever seen. :wavey: :hearts:

I like to drop it (or dip it low as Milan would say :p) and toss up a super moonball lob deluxe  Nobody can resist

But lately, my backhand slices have been flying up high on me  I'm using a Prince Chang Graphite, strung with a syn. spin @ 60 lbs. I have to REALLY come at the ball with my racquet perpendicular to the court...otherwise, game over :explode:

LMAO!!!!! That's why I do it.....seeing them scramble to get back for the lob...I always remember doing it heaps to an overweight kid that had a huge serve....I did it so often.....I lobbed him and the look on his face was priceless...he got it back once and I was laughing so hard I couldn't volley LMAO. If you have ever seen Jumanji with that Rhino that puffs as it follows at the back of the pack? It was so like that LMAO .....what can I say I was a cruel kid :haha:

LOL, my dadz a bit like that fat kid, but the look on his face is :fiery: ! he thinks hes sooo good, when really hes a pile of donkey bollucks.

Oh, my dropshot use to be good, but now it (along with my volleys) is the weakest part of my game. The only time I can hit a decent drop shot is when the ball is in one of the service box's. My disguise is good though. (I think)

My drop-shot is a weapon. I like to use it in strange situations and I often surprise my opponent with it. I like it more to make a dropshot winner than a forehand DTL winner
I consider it as a big weapon. My opponents hate it

It's actually my best shot. ;) But only on the backhand side, and only down the line.
I even do it from behind the baseline. Whenever nothing else works in my game (which is quite often recently :(), I play this shot.

My dropshot is pretty hit-or-miss; either it will go over and be ungettable or it will just plop into the net on my side.
The problem is I try to use it far too much. If I am in a baseline rally that goes on for more than four shots, I will just get frustrated and try a drop. Or if I am playing someone really good and trying to find a way to beat them, I will hit a load of dropshots (and usually miss). Sometimes when I am under pressure in a point, I will try to hit one. But the most effective use is when my opponent is at the net, and I'm not in a position to pass or lob, so I just hit a low floater of a drop shot at them which gives me loads of time to recover. They are usually so surprised that they hit a weak volley which I chase down and smack for a winner.

I havequite a good dropshot off my backhand win - I always use it in the strangest of situations like matchpoints down which is strange because usually I tighten up alot on important points - I love trying drop volleys cos when they work the look so class

I play with two hands on the forehand side which I think helps in making my drop shot an easy shot for me to execute. I can usually put a lot of under spin on it which makes it that much more lethal. I can't hit a dropshot off of my backhand though. I tend to forget to use that shot as much as I probably should, thanks for reminding me...

My dropshot is good out of both wings, I can hide it perfectly on my forehand. While my backhand dropshot, although letal, I would say is easy to figure out once you've seen a couple.

Thanks ;). And I think you're right, Monica would just kill me!

The sad part about my serve is that I'm 6'4" and I serve about as fast as Anika Kapros's. My serve just plain sucks :)

I have a great drophot when I don't outright overpower my opponents and hit winners...

I like hitting a deep crosscourt backhand right into the corner which makes them hit a short reply, and I pretend like I'm going to go up the line, but then I carve out a dropshot extremely short in the deuce side serve box and it spins off the court...

I'm soo good...

I can hit it pretty well off my backhand side if my game is on. I don't think I have EVER hit a dropshot off my forehand though.

can you guys give me some tips on drop shot? before I just carve into the bottom of the ball....but this video said do a side spin drop shot because you have MORE CONTROL on the shot..if you just do it at 6 oclock at the bottom of the ball...you have to do it perfectly everytime.....so side spin like 8 to 2 o'clock or something? also someone said you want the drop shot to be at least 3 feet over the net when it drops? any tips would be really appreciated..thanks

You can hit an awful dropshot with great success, depending on your positioning and disguise. Obviously though, aim to hit it well.

The answer for me is probably no. But then again, my whole tennis game is one big bluff.

No one I played against in high school moved well coming forward, so I had a good drop shot by default

These days the guys move better so I guess it's fair. I can probably count the number of forehand drop shots I've hit on one hand, but my backhand dropper's not awful.

Pretty much

I can only hit a FH dropshot & it's pretty shit.
Can't hit a BH dropshot let alone a decent one handed BH slice

Easily the best part about my game although sometimes when i drop shot i don't anticipate the opponent getting to the ball and don't get into a good position for the return, which i need to work on more

I used to have an amazing drop shot when I was like 14/15. Not gonna lie, it was so amazing and it worked very well. But then my coach told me to stop using it too much, and now it isn't as good as it used to be because I was afraid to use it :o

Touch and feel is what my game is all about, but I find the forehand drop shot harder to nail than the backhand. It's less natural. Nonetheless, my drop shots are always of an adequate standard at least, and one of my main methods of offence.

Drop shot is my favourite shot together with volley, it used to work fine at "my peak":p
