Well I say Maggie wins in 3 sets but that's me being optimistic, realistic: Venus in 2 or 3 sets. Still Maggie can beat her again she's got it in her :worship:

Venus in straight sets!

Unfortunately, no magic carpet ride for Maggie!

Venus is playing too well.
Also, she hasn't lost to anyone twice in a row not named Williams since 1999!
Also, Maggie hasn't come close to taking a set off Venus off of Clay, and Maggie isn't known for hour clay court play.

As long as Venus's game is half way together, Venus in 2

This might be the match of the tournament besides the possible final with Mauresmo.

Venus has been coming into her game and playing fabulously but Maggie has been a spoiler for Venus before!

I feel Venus will prevail although I'm not so sure in str8's. GO VENUS!!! :bounce:

Maggie may threaten Venus on carpet, but she's really not going to be as big of a threat on clay. I think Patty would've bothered Venus more.

Anyhow, this is tennis. Anything can happen on any given day. I just hope both girls are healthy and will play their best.

I think Venus will win. We'll see what happens. ;)

Thought this their first meeting on clay, Venus has the edge here considering Maggie had to play three sets today and has to come back tomorrow to play Venus. Venus most likely has worked on her serve and if she serves like she did in the last two sets of her match yesterday, I say she wins 6-3, 6-3 or 6-2.

Since it's their first meeting on clay and Venus is undefeated on clay so far this year, I'll go with Vee in three. This match will be just like the Zuluaga match: slow start, strong finish. ;)

If this was the Venus of a few months ago, I might have said Maggie. But Venus has really overcome her problems with a great win in Charleston against a great clay court player and plus her Fed Cup wins are going to give her much more confidence in this match. Besides all of Maggie's wins against Venus have come on carpet with their last match going to a tie break in the third set. However, when Venus has played against Maggie on a surface she is comfortable with like hard courts, she has dominanted the match. See stats below:

1995 Oakland Carpet (I) QF Magdalena MALEEVA 2-6 3-6 1998 Sydney Hard (O) QF Venus WILLIAMS 6-2 6-2 2001 Nice Carpet (I) SF Magdalena MALEEVA 6-7(8) 4-6 2002 Australian Open Hard (O) 16 Venus WILLIAMS 6-0 6-3 2002 Moscow Carpet (I) 16 Magdalena MALEEVA 6-2 1-6 6-7(3) Magdalena MALEEVA (BUL) leads 3 : 2

Maggie and Venus have never played on clay, and both have struggled this year. Maggie is 10-9 this year in ten tournaments. She was a finalist in Tokyo, but has had one first round loss (Dubai) and three second round losses (Indian Wells, Miami and Amelia Island) since then. This year, she has only won three clay matches against Randriantefy, Likhotseva and Schnyder. Venus has a 15-3 win loss record so far this year in six events. She has not lost a match on clay so far. While she struggled early with a third round loss at the Australian to Raymond, a withdrawal from Tokyo quaterfinals, a loss in the Dubai and Miami quarterfinals, she won Charleston and all of her Fed Cup matches.

On clay, Venus has more wins. Maggie won Budapest and has been a finalist in Bol, Hilton Head and the German Open. Venus just won Charleston and has won Amelia Island, Hamburg (twice) and Rome. She was a finalist at Roland Garros and won the doubles and mixed doubles titles there.

So at this point, Venus if she can stay on course and is serving well, she is greatly favored in this match.

Venus will win.

Maggie is a very good clay court player, much better than she is on carpet, so she should really push her opponent a bit if she's organised.

I think Maleeva's surfaces rank as:

1. Carpet
2. Grass
3. Hardcourts
4. Clay

I think clay, is by far, her worst surface.

Venus in two, one tough set, one easy set.

Actually Maggie has had more success on clay than on outdoor hardcourts in the past. She has reached a couple of tier I finals on clay.

Success defined as what?? She has gotten to more Tier I finals and finals in general on the clay?? Or, she's more consistent all around on the clay?

Although she may not have the big results on the hardcourts, I think she consistently gets out of the first few rounds, while on clay, she does great, then does really bad.

I think that at this point in the season, there are only two people who can beat Venus Williams: Herself, and Serena. Venus is proving to the rest of the tour, and mainly to herself, that she can come out and win matches, and back-to-back tournaments. She has not lost a match on clay all year, and she's had some tough matches (Martinez is resurging herself as a clay court power, and Zvonareva won their last clay court meeting.) So I really think that Venus will win. I'm not sure how close it will be. I think that the Zuluaga match was the perfect opener for her. She, by far, has the toughest draw of any of the top four seeds, and if, when, she wins here, it'll finally prove that she did not lose her skills, she just decided to prolong her time out of her A-game, by playing with a serious injury. Venus will win, probably in straights. I don't think Maleeva can do much to take Venus off of her 8-0 clay court cloud!

Sorry, try again in Moscow! HEHEHEHE
