For me it was the AO match with Venus and Lindsay, where Venus's beads were falling out and the umpire was giving her warnings. Watching Venus plead with the Umpire did something to my heart, i felt for her, and I guess because she is black my emotions for her was even more amplified. I 've loved her ever since!!She lost that day, but I've wanted to be a witness when triumphed in the future!!. I hated that Lindsay looked so unconcerned during the whole ordeal!!I'm still a fan of her's though!!

I became hooked at the 2000 Wimbledon; Venus def. HingisThat's exactly where my interest really took a strong hold.

I've also seen Hingis def. Venus (US Open SF 1999) Serena def. Hingis (US Open F 1999) and Pierce def. Martinez (RG 2000) to get my interest started up, but that Venus vs. Hingis match is what got me hooked for life.

I remember how I was rooting for Venus full-heartedly, and that was where I truly took an interest in Venus' game and the sport.

I hadn't seen any Venus match before that quarter. From that point on though I was a die hard. Since I've seen almost every match the girl has ever played

The first tennis match that I ever saw on TV was:

Serena Williams vs. Jennifer Capriati: 01' Wimbledon. I liked Serena since then because I thought she was funny when she grunted. The match after that I saw Venus Williams vs. Justine Henin in the Wimbledon final, and I remember that the final was delayed until Monday due to rain. And then my 3rd ever match was Chanda Rubin vs. Amelie Mauresmo at US Open 2001, Chanda threw up on court, and that would be the last time she has ever lost to her as of present.

1st match on TV that I payed attention to was Graf v ASV Roland Garros 1989. I do remember seeing bits of Wimbledon before then, from about 1988 onwards, but can't remember watching a match.

i watched wimbledon 89, and the seles v graf 1990 Berlin and Roland Garros. from then on, i watched tennis avidly until about 1996, when i moved away frommy parents and no longer had satellite tv :(

It was sometime in the late 70's before my dad went to prison and he really liked Chris. Chris was playing Martina at Wimbledon (I recall it was grass), and my dad was screaming at Chris on the TV to "go to the net you dummy" and of course Chris did not go to the net. There was a lot of "advantage Navratilova" around in all the matches I watched at that time. That totally should have been the title of her autobiography, or at least someone's. What a great title. Anyway, right around this time I asked my dad if Martina would beat Chris again and he responded that Martina was playing too good, she would win, even though he preferred Chris. I don't remember the match or the year, but it was before 1980 because that's when my dad went to prison. It must have been 1978 or 1979.
