Katerina Basternakova

What ever happened to Katerina Basternakova? She´s Slovakian and she´s now 21 years. She didn´t compete on the ITF-tour since 2001, where she played her last match in Modena in the quali´s against Golimbioschi (Rom). Basternakova was trailing 6-1 3-6 0-1 and then retired couse of injury.

She was an outstanding junior, but had some problems in the ´big womens tour´. She never won an ITF singles title (but 2 double titles on the ITF). Highest ranking was 292.

Katerina highest junior ranking was 8 in singles and 9 in doubles. Played semifinal Wimbledon ´98 (with Hantuchova), quarterfinal Orange Bowl -18 ´98 (with Hrozenska), quarterfinal Australian Open ´99 (with Kucova), European doubleschampion -18 ´99 (with Hrozenska) and semifinal US Open ´99 (with Hrozenska. Besides that reached final girls singles Australian Open ´99 where she lost against Virginie Razzano (Fra), besides that quarterfinal European Championships -18, lost against Bedanova (Cze).

Has career wins over: drake, fujiwara, lubiani, andres, kloesel, hrozenska (2x), kucova, fislova, chevalier, grandin, vierin, nakamura, hopkins.

Biggest wins over: Maria-Elena Camerin, Clarisa Fernandez (2x), Laura Granville, Flavia Pennetta.

Is she retired, injured, married, anorexic, pregnant, dead......???

No idea. Maybe she ran out of money: She only earned about US-$ 10.000 in her entire career :(

She just made the top 300 and stopped playing at the age of 20 years.

No she retired 2001 when she was just 20 years old. This thread's bit older ;)
