Even though we're not even half-way into this decade, I wanted to know, what what the best rivalry on tour that you've witnessed.

VOTE AND LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD!

*For any rivalry to qualify, the two mentioned played have had to have played at least 5 WTA MAIN DRAW matches against each other.

I guess Jenn/Serena, but it doesn't exist anymore.

Jenn/Serena may have been close but the quality always was poor and it was always obvious Serena would win.

I just wanted to make a correction really quickly:

I said on the poll that Vee and Elena have only played four WTA Tour main draw matches, but Venus' Miami self-destruct was their 5th match so....the asterisk was unneeded.

2000-2004 the ONLY rivalry is Clijsters/Henin-Hardenne.

'3 Grand SLam finals' doesn't come close to telling the whole tale. They've played SIXTEEN times from 2001-2004. Only once has either of them won three matches in a row. Kim leads the series 9-7, but JH2 has won the three GS finals. No other two played each other as often, and have records that even.

The Belgians ... just out of sheer number of matches.

I say Venus/Hingis also. I think that was the fiercest and overall the most entertaining.

I couldn't really decide between Serena and Justine or Serena and JCap, but I went with Serena and Justine, since both of them have an ax to grind with each other and they are both gunning for showing the world who the best player is.

Capriati - Henin

HM - Pistolesi - Zvonareva

3. Capriati - Henin: 6 out of 7 went to three sets including a HISTORIC US Open Semi in 2003

2. Williams - Henin: Serena leads 5-3, but the sheer intensity between these two players is just brewing and waiting to explode it's not even funny

1. Henin - Clijsters: They've played 16 times and about 7 of them are finals. Theiry GS Finals may not be great but their Tour finals are quite exciting. And just be the numerous times they've played, this is definitely the best.

I would call none of the duos from the list a rivalry.
The real rivalries are the likes of the ones between Martina N n Chris Evert, Monica and Steffi, Steffi and Gaby, Arantxa and Conchita.

Do your research Davy and Venus have played 22 times (Venus leads 12-10)

But they didn't play 22 times from 2000-2004. :)

Oh theres a few, probably Clijsters Henin, and Capriati SWilliams cos they are real rivalries they both want to slice each others guts open when the play each other.

So far, the best rivalry would have to be Jennifer Capriati and Serena Williams, though it seems that that "rivalry" may be over.

Honorable Mention:

Justine Henin-Hardenne & Serena Williams - "The Hand." Need I say more? Albeit for different reasons, fans of the respective women and tennis lovers at large would love to see this matchup come to fruition as a real rivalry (and when both are actually healthy, hopefully it will).

Venus Williams & Martina Hingis - Although some of their best matches were in the prior decade, you can't help but consider them in this category.

Venus and Hingis by far. Those matches were slugfests, not to mention all the trash talking going on before and after the match this is what made it a great rivalry. IMO a good rivalry has to include players who are both equally talented that really don't like each other.

Out of curiosity, I wonder what that implies about the players involved in the other matchups (i.e. Serena/Jennifer, Serena/Justine, etc)?

They've played ten times from 2000-2004. Venus lead 9-1. Not much of a rivalry.

Do your research.

1. venus & hingis- but i would have liked it to last longer
2. Serena & jennifer- problem with this rivalry was that they didnt get a chance to play any major finals. although they played 4 finals they never got a chance to play in the finals of a major, too bad.

The Serena & Justine rivalry is too new to rank as one of the best, but of all the rivalries it has the most potential to be the best. I only hope its not like monica and steffi, with them only getting a chance to play a few times. I cant wait to see these two play again. i wouldnt be surprised if i end up having to wait till next year the way things are going tho.

Serena vs Jennifer....always three-setters, always drama.

But serena vs justine may top that. Don´t ever think that the "hand" is gonna be ever forgotten!

yep, and even though serena has the edge now of days, it always goes the distance and it usually comes down to the wire. could you imagine how much more exciting it would have been to watch any of jen and serenas matches be in a final of a slam!? if their matches would have been in the finals of a major then that rivalry would be even better than it is now.
