Even though I'm a Dani fan, I wouldn't class this as being a huge surprise, seeing that Anna is at her best on a clay court. Also the fact that she gets most back and is basically forcing Dani to play that one extra shot and given Dani's confidence level just now, that's not good for her which explains the extremely high error count.

She didn't cry. She was fighting from 3:5 in the second set :fiery:

at least she didnt get thrashed is it's a pretty tight scoreline which is a good sign imo. pistolesi is a good player on any surface but clay is probably her best surface, although a win for dani would have been good i still think she did ok.

She could lose 6-0 6-0

There's nothing worse than fighting and losing

Poor Dani  I can't help partly blaming commentators like Pam Shiver for this kid's downfall. :tape: She was so hyped just couldn't live up to it. This goes to show that hype often has little to do with reality. Let's hope the kiddo gets her act together--- she is capable of doing so much better :tape:

Hey! For the last half of last year, Dani wasn't winning matches at all. Now she is seriously pushing top 20 players again (Venus, Smashnova, etc.) She is sorting things out; such things don't happen overnight:p .

1. Learn to forgive and forget, and to accept what has happened in order to move on. REVENGE IS NOT THE ANSWER.
2. Keep an open mind, and know that listening is the greatest virtue. ARROGANCE IS NOT THE ANSWER.
3. Live life to the fullest, don't hold back, and have no regrets. HAPPINESS IS THE ANSWER.

Nice signature MBoyle!

How can anything be 'up' with her? She lost 4-6 7-5, there's nothing shameful in that. Whenever ANYONE loses, do you always ask the question, what's up with them? No! On the day, she lost to a better player, that's all, it's as simple as that. There nothing up with her at all, it was a close match in the end.

You could ask, what's up with Pistolesi? She was up 5-3 in the second a blew loads of match points. What's up with her? Can't she close out matches at the right time?

I think it's an improvement. Clay was never something we associate
we Dani anyway. I think she's getting there. It's never an easy road
after having your Soph. slump year.

I think she is improving.
Out of the slumpers of Alex and Dokic, I think Dani has the best chance to pull out.

How can anything be 'up' with her? She lost 4-6 5-7, there's nothing shameful in that.63 UEs. If that is worthy of criticsim or question, what is? Subtract the 23 UEs Anna Samsh had, and Dani gave away 15 GAMES worth of UEs. her winner/UE ratio was -22.

You could ask, what's up with Pistolesi? She was up 5-3 in the second a blew loads of match points. What's up with her? Can't she close out matches at the right time? The 'right time' to close out a match is when you do. She did.

This was a match between #20 vs #45. A straight set victory is only what one would expect.

ok first of all..congrats to anna:D

and yeah..daniela's UE's are really bad..she should keep it down..but great showing daniela..

She palyed anna 2 times in 2002..she lost to her in a clay court and won in a hardcourt im not quite sure..she lost to a decent player and i think anna's best surface is clay..

and i know you're gonna start saying SHE HAD 63 UE's..thats not good and we are soo freakin aware of that..so yeah..daniela should cut those UE's down..

and hey..the good thing about this is she kept fighting..her first match she was down 0-5 and made it 5-5 but eventually lost that first set but won the 2nd and 3rd to win the match..

second match in the second set she was down 3-5 i think, but managed to make it 5-5..so yeah, you can really see that she is improving mentally and also physically..

Yes, 63 UE's is too high, but you miss the point I am making. She also hit 41 winners which is typical of the 'all-out' attacking style of play that makes Daniela so exciting to watch. Yesterday, that paid off against Lorezo, she hit 59 winners and had only 39 UE's, a + ratio of 20. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't. Maybe Daniela needs to throw caution to the wind a little less often and just get the ball back in play and wait for her opponent to make the error, much like Pistolesi did today.

Maybe she would win more matches like that, but having been watching her for several years now, that's just not the way Daniela plays. She's an all-out attacking style player, take a look at the video of the IW final of 2002 to see her at her best. She would never have won that game playing defensively. It's an aspect of Daniela's game that she needs to learn, when to play defensively against certain players.

But for the time being, we just have to accept that Daniela is just as likely to hit as many winners as errors, or vice-versa, and that kind of erratic play at the moment is losing her more matches than she should. But maybe it's like telling an attacking footballer to start playing defensively. If it's not in their nature, a leopard will not change its spots, and I can't see Daniela changing her aggresive style of play. I think we have to accept that and accept that there will be as many defeats along the way caused by her over-enthusiasm as there will be wins.

I'll take that because that's what makes watching her so exciting. You pay your money and you get what you pay for, and with Daniela, you can never accuse her of short-changing you. You can't accuse her of not trying or not putting in 100%. I would rather watch Daniela play exciting, attacking tennis rather than watching her hit moonballs and a procession of backhand slices, rather like some of the more boring women in tennis today.
