Serena really demolished Martina that day, hitting %100 first serves in the second set. John Mac. was really dogging Martina for not ever trying to improve her serve. Up to that match Martina the number one "ranked" player in the world had a 7-8 record -v- top ten players 7-9 after the demolition. :tape:

I took a long lunch break for that Semi and was at home rolling around and talking to a friend of mine who was online and had the scores before I did.

It was too funny. That had to be the best time, I spent at home on the phone LAUGHING!

She served 4 bombs to close out that match. They showed Oracene just shaking her head in the stands like "Damn" she killed her

It's all mental my dear!! If someone said that about Serena, I'd simply research some of their older posts to see what kind of statements were made in the past, and if I found that this poster has a habit of posting "racially questionable" remarks then I would call him/her on that.

It's just an expression that people use it means to treat that person like they just robbed you of something. You wouldn't treat them nice and if you caught them a lot of people would administer a beat down. a serious beat down. So to yell that out at a tennis match (other sports it's common) is kind of mean but it's also a joke cause in that match Serena was sooooo dominate she was beating Martina handily and it was kind of like she was "beating her like she stole something." Serena had no mercy for Martina on that day.

I hope that helps you understand..

You're right...Jon kept asking Mary why hasn't Martina improved her serve to which Mary finally replied" I don't know why don't you ask her!"

Hingis hits a lame approach and strolls to the net Serena passes her and Mary says somethng like " She's walking into a buzzsaw"

If I were a Hingis fan I would have been steamed listening to them clown her like that. Martina showed none of the dynamic game that put her a top the rankings, it was as if she'd seen the results on the ESPN tickertape before she took to the court.

This thread is too funny for me to let it die. That catch-Phrase is just not used in tennis.

Although, I'd love to hear it more.

Hmm, I want a copy of this match. I've never been able to watch it.

Different strokes for different folks. Probably the cultural divide between us and the pond.

That was the greatest match Serena played in her entire career and one of Martina's worst performances ever. As a huge Hingis fan, I was extremely disappointed that she lost, but kudos to Serena. She was by far the better player and clearly deserved to win that match.

I think it's kind of sad that Serena beat so many big names and was playing so brilliantly but got killed by Venus in the final. :( Something like Martina after toppling Serena the hypochondriac and beating Venus like she stole somthing ;) and then losing the final to the actual kleptomaniac. All that hard work to get to the final and then coming up short in the big match.

Nah, her greatest match ever (she says so) was against Lisa Raymond in the 3rd round(?) in '00 Wimbledon(=). Serena and Martina had some good matches, but she didn't really have to play her best tennis in order to beat Hingis.

If this thread was directed only to willifans, why is it in GM? Yes, I'm sure it has redeeming quality or intended for a peaceful discussion.http://img46.photobucket.com/albums/v142/DunkMachine/TreeFlip.jpg

I disagree with Serena. Serena played brilliantly in that Wimbledon quarterfinal in 2000 against Lisa Raymond, but she did not serve as well. Also, with all due respect to Raymond, Martina Hingis is in another class altogether.

I mean, in how many other complete matches, has Serena gone an entire set without missing a serve?!

I also disagree with you. Serena always needed to play her best tennis in order to beat Hingis. Except in Scottsdale and Miami in 2002, when Hingis was playing on one leg and painkillers.

Is that the '01 US Open semi? I didn't see it. I hope they show it on a Tennis classic on the TTC one day, but I doubt it. :p
Yeah i doubt it too:mad:
