View Full Version : Anna Kournikova or Alexandra Stevenson - Who is GREATER?????

CanadianBoy21
Apr 27th, 2004, 08:02 PM
Due to the multiple threads, Conchi vs. Kim, Venus vs Hinis/Justine, Serena vs Hingis, etc...

So I ask a reasonable question, who is GREATER?????????????

Anna without even a hint of a question - a far superior tennis player, athlete, looker and miles ahead personality wise too.

Anna is ahead by a mile - Numerous tier 1 finals, doubles grand slams and #1 world ranking, and wins over just about every big name of the past few years.

Alex had a fortunate Wimbledon draw, a tier 2 final, a tier 3 final, and Serena Williams to give her a doubles title to her resume.

I believe a few years ago, Alexandra had a meeting with South Carolina's governor concerning the Confederate Flag "flap" that was going on in SC. Oddly, that same year, the flag was removed off the dome (where no one actually saw it) to the grounds of the SC Statehouse in everyone's face. Regardless, the goal was to take it off the Statehous dome. So, in that vein, Alexandra is greater...she's got heap much power!

Not such a failed venture, IMO. If she couldn't persuade SC to get rid of it, @ least they couldn't hide it atop the dome, "exalted but unseen". Instead, they showed Their "True colors" so ppl could then confront what it represents!

Having lived in SC and in Columbia (the capital) at that time, I can assure everyone that Alexandra had little to do with that flag being taken down. I was trying to be sarcastic, but I apparently failed. :( I hate it when that happens! :o

Yanno, for all the brunt Anna takes for using her looks to get her fame and never winning a WTA title, one must remember that Anna was #1 in the world in juniors, #1 in the world in doubles (2 grand slams), and a top 10 player in singles. If not for some injuries and distractions, Anna would still be competing at a high level today.

Alex Stevenson? Never #1 of anything, her highest ranking was #19 I think? This is not a good comparison.

Neither, I mean how can we say one is better than the other when both have yet to win a singles tournement. I know Anna won some doubles grandslams, but she usually worked with Hingis and they usually played against inferior competition. Doubles isn't the same as singles because it's just you out there so if you don't bring it you will lose, and the type of player you are gets exposed really quick. This is why I can't say one is better than the other.

Last time I checked in all major sports including tennis you're measured by W's it's just that simple. Do you think Justine, Kim, Jen, Venus, Serena, Martina, or any other great player would be considered talented if they didn't win anything? I think not.

The bottom line is, look at Anna Kournikova's career wins over top players, her results in singles and doubles, and her career high ranking... then look at Stevenson's. If you are still unable to choose, then you need medical help. Bye.

Actually, from the last 10 years, Kournikova is certainly in the top 50 of the greatest players.

Kournikova and "great" can be in the same sentence.Again, she was a great player. Even during her best years, she never played up to her capability. Very talented player, never fulfilled.

Ok this poll asks who is greater. They both have 0 singles titles, so scratch that idea. Anna was top 10 before, Alex wasnt. Anna's made it to the finals of big events, Alex has made the finals of 2 crapass events. Anna's had wins over a heck of a lot more top players than Alex could ever dream of defeating. Now moving along to doubles, Anna won GS events, was #1, has many titles. Alex? exactly my point, what has Alex done in doubles besides Serena carrying her sorry ass to a doubles title win in 2002? You can also look at them talent wise, and Anna totally crushed Alexandra in that department.

and nikerulz, Henrieta Nagyova and Anna Smashnova-Pistolesi have god knows how many lower tiered titles, but does that make them the better player than Anna? nope:p

Why is double so overlooked? Double results are an indicator of talent and greatness. You don't get number 1 in the world in double by mistake.

In last 10 years, thinking of player who had better results than Anna (single and double combined), there isn't that much names who come to my mind.
Doubles is separate... it's a different game, many of the top players don't play it, and many of them don't take it seriously, and just use it as practice.

Here's a comparison to show why we can't compare doubles:

Justine vs. Kim. If you add doubles, Kim is by far the better player... but, you know she's not.

Apr 28th, 2004, 03:24 AM
I wouldn't use "great" for either of them, though Anna goes close as a doubles player.
The bottom line is that Anna has had a much better tennis career than Alex.

HANDS DOWN-KOURNIKOVA-In her better yeras she was beating higher ranked players more consistently. The doubles titles, finals, ect. Alex had one good run at Wimb in '99 and then really has done nothing. Everytime I see that interview with her on the Tennis Channel with Chris Meyers I want to puke. Her curent ranking puts her where she belongs-qualifying-and she can even win there. RETIRE

You got that one write -Samantha probably called a press conference (with a Krispy Kreme in her mouth) to complain to the media about the poll. Samantha looks and acs like Linda Tripp-anyone else think so?

Someone should do a poll of worst tennis parent

So far Anna's career is/was better - more wins over top players and made it to the semis and finals of numerous events, plus #1 in dubs, and #8 in singles should def count for something. The only thing's Alex has done is the Wimby semis but Anna did that too. Not a very complicated question at the moment (Alex could change this possibly??? Time will tell).

When a title was on the line in that Shanghai final, the 2 Anna's met. Who Walked off with The Trophy? Bottom line is that Anna K. was indeed once a rising star, but is long past that Stage. Some ppl insist on treating the sum of her game (could have.....) and her looks (nice, but would "blend in" on many beaches) as "greater Than The sum". If you Fall For That, To borrow a phrase, you=OWNED.
