Anyone who never got a real chance due to injury, etc. (Brie Rippner was a prime example). Those Above All had full careers, though Jen's was "interrupted for other reasons".

MAGGIE MALEEVA!!!! A dynasty of 20 years will end!!I'm not Maggies biggest fan, nothing against her but I guess I have been to obsessed with Sammy...lol:) Anyways, when she does retire it will be an end to a major dynasty in the tennis world.

Justine of course, it will be like another Steffi retirement all over again.
Venus more than Serena but it won't be the same without either one of them.
Ai (she is so lovely!!)

They had to open helplines for suicidal people when I retired.

seles, without a wimbledon title, that'll hurt.

Also navratilova, cos she has made things interesting the past few years.

Thinking about players that I'm actually worried about retiring, I'd say Amanda, Iva, Silvia, and maybe Seles. Hopefully Monica is not considering retirement, but I'd miss her terribly. Not sure how long Els is going to hang around singles play either and I'll miss her too. Amanda is the one I'm most worried about at the moment.

Chanda for sure. It will be a real shame if she retires without fulfilling her potential, which is being a grand slam winner. She has the game to beat anyone, its just her concentration and her self-belief lets her down at crucial moments in key matches i.e - ( Us Open 2002 4th round against venus, chanda was up 5-5 0-30 on venus' serve in the final set and she let it slip :(. not to mention all the matches against dementieva where she was up a set and a break and still lost, most notably at the wta championships last november. Anyway, it will be terrible if chanda retires before she pulls her self-belief together and gets that winning mentality.

DYNASTY? The Maleeva's? # of slams between the three? Weeks at number one? Major titles?

How bout end of an era, or end of the road, but dynasty? LOL

Seles, because although she became a better player, she never got herself fit enough to compete in this generation for slam titles.

OKOK Maleeva hater, then era..... I think itīs an dynasty bc they were in the beginning of the 90īs a thread, but u are too young to see that perhaps....

Venus and Serena might have won a lot more, but itīs great to see a Maleeva over 20 years on every weekīs ranking except some weeks!

Well, my heart inevitably says Jen, coz she's always been my absolute fave... but the thing is every time a player that I've 'known' and followed for a while retires it always feels pretty sad to me...
I think one of the first retirements that impressed me has been Kimiko Date's... she left tennis when she was still so young, and playing very well... then Gabriela left the tour, that felt weird, coz she'd been around for quite a long time, and the same for Arantxa... or Steffi, more recently.
I think that whenever a player has meant something to my eyes, either as one of my faves or as just one other face on the tour... as long as she's impressed me for some reason, it always feels sad to see them go... also coz it means I'm growing older, too! :tape:

Don't assume anything, I'm from the era when mens tennis was much more exciting to watch...Lendl, Conners, Borg, mcenroe, Nastasse.

The Maleeva's represented themselves well, but never came close to ruling the roost.
