View Full Version : A good performance at Warsaw will make VENUS the dominant player on the tour

JHH is out with viral injury. SERENA is out rehabing her knee. Clijsters is slowly coming back from a wrist injury. VENUS has just won the FCC title and played an excellent match in her first Fed Cup victory match.

http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/nm/20040425/mdf548435.jpg

The FCC event showed a much improved serve by VENUS (finally) and if she is just even to make the finals of the Warsaw tournament, despite her actual rankings, the Goddess of Tennis should be considered the top player on the tour, at that time and needing only another solid performance in Rome to, perhaps, make her the leading contender going into the RG Championships. :worship: :)

VENUS, however, will possibly need to defeat SERENA or at least JHH (if she plays) in Rome to really solidfy herself going into that Paris event.

Thanks for the info, but I did not think that VENUS would play four events in a row before going to Paris. I somehow believe that she will skip, or should skip Germany or Rome before Paris.

True, Lindsay is playing well, but, already lacking slow foot speed and agility when young, has not gotten faster with age. Look for Lindsay to go no farther than the semis at RG.

Well, The Williams and the Belgies have not faced one another this year yet, with JHH out of action until Paris, only a confrontation between VENUS & SERENA could be the decider for dominance before RG because Kim is not likely beat either of them before Paris (or in Paris :) ).

Hence, at the very least, both Williams will be the dominant players going into France.

I'm with Mr. Rexx on this one. I think now that Venus has tasted victory (for the 1st time in over 14 months?), she won't want to lose it again. It's like an addiction--and hopefully one she can't do without.

Go Venus! It's time to dominate! :bounce:

Nope! A question mark will still remain as the field is not strong enough.

How VENUS plays and how she feels is as important as who she beats, in her case.

If VENUS is playing well against lower ranked players, she will probably do the same against higher ranked players as well.

If VENUS is healthy and continues to play well, as she has in the past weeks, then it may not matter much who she is playing. :)

Venus has trouble playing against lower ranked players. She sometimes is not there in the match.
Venus is a big match player. Or at least she was before she started losing to Serena.
Now that she seems happy to win, really really happy, I believe her game will return to the 2000-2001 level, where she was DETERMINED, FEARLESS, and a CHAMPION.
It's all coming back! But Warsaw will not be that important. Venus should play these tournaments to prepare herself for the French Open, and not ONLY to beat up on lower ranked players.

I believe she is back, but we will have to see in the next 5-10 tournies where she really is for the long term haul.

If VENUS puts a hurting on Zvon and Momo, I believe that will have made Warsaw quite important. :)

Remember, VENUS is playing at full steam, JHH is on ice, SERENA is resting a sore knee and Kim is tentatively coming back on tour. That puts the Goddess of Tennis at a decided advantage, at this time.

Finally, 10 tournaments from now, VENUS will be into the 2005 season.

I really do hope Venus is back and ready to play her best again, right now I'm just not as confident as a lot of people seem to be. If she can make the finals or win her next tournament then I'll be convinced...till then...

As for Kim "slowly" or "tentatively" coming back, well that all depends on the results of her first event. I'm hoping, just like with MoMo and Rena, that she can find her old form in her first event back.

Well when Vee is playing her best she is so dangerous, so in warsaw she has the edge.

I will not project what may happen during the rest of the clay season, because anything can and will happen. My only hope is that Venus continues to play with the passion she displayed at FCC. If she does that, then the wins will continue to come.

I think Venus has a great shot to do well, especially after her victory at the FCC. At this point, given how much she has struggled, it doesn't matter who she beats as long as she is consistent and confident. Barring a bad day or another injury, I think Venus should win Warsaw and have a good run at RG. Personally, I cannot wait for Wimbledon. I am praying to see Venus claim a third crown there.

Ok, guys can you just leave Venus alone? Leave her do her things before claiming stupidties, haven't you learned from the defeats she had? To just appreciate her when she is playing winning or not?

Clay has nothing to do with it. Zina and BJK have an incredible resume in making Venus' game better when she trains with them. Venus is not the only who benefits from working with Zina and BJK.

Gosh, I wish you guys could see Vee play at Fed Cup. You'd be singing a different tune. Vee has moved on from FCC and is concentrating on being victorious on the red clay.
