View Full Version : If Monica had played full clay seasons in 2001-3 ...

.. but OTHERWISE WAS THE SAME.

That is to say, she's still overweight, slow, serves well, hits like a Mack truck and never quits. Would Jenn Capriati, Serena Williams and Justine Henin-Hardenne have won their respective OZ titles?

This is totally speculative. We will of course, disagree on whether or not Monica WAS overweight, as well as how much. IF she was slow, and if so, how slow. And how well she served and how hard she hit.

Clues

She won Rome in 2000, and lost to Mary Pierce at RG.
She won Madrid in 2002, and lost to Venus at RG
Both those years, she only played one tournament before RG, and won it.
Almost any objective fan of Monica's is better qualified than me to answer this, so any response I have will mostly be questions. The thread's for my own education, really.

It's very tricky to know with Monica . Sh elikes to play a lot Clay is her best surface and for her not to play much on clay is strange but she must have had her reasons, Maybe trying to save herself for RG.

The timing of them always prevents her from having a lot of red clay time. This year too.

Never quits??

Yes, she does....and Venus hits winners on her all the time. She doesn't even retrieve the ball. Monica will let them sail past her.

That's why she's losing.

Monica played Amelia Island in 2000 also and won it, so she played that event, as well as the FCC and lost to Mary...

And she was out of gas against Mary in her loss at RG, and the loss against Venus she was flat and slow--I think if she would have been sharp it would have at least gone to three sets...

It's my first. And as a fan of Venus, I would ask you to display a little more class. You make all Venus fans look bad.

That's why she's losing. It IS true she plays Venus every single match, but I hear the WTA is going to give her a special exemption so she can play the other players too.
